This research conducted quasi-experimental research design. The sample was 29 students of XI MIA1 which was assigned as experimental group and 33 students of XI MIA2 which was assigned as control group. The research used probability sampling design that is cluster random sampling for taking the sample. The data of this research were collected by giving the students pre-test and post-test in the form of writing test. Then, the data were analyzed by using SPSS 17.00 using descriptive analysis and inferential statistic. The results showed that the mean score of the experimental group was higher than the control group. In the experimental group the mean score of pre-test was 45.72 and the mean score of post-test was 80.82. In comparison, in the control group the mean score of pre-test was 46.79 and the mean score of post-test was 74.28. The result of the independent sample t-test indicated that the value of sig. (2 tailed) which was lower than the significance α value (0.000 < 0.05). In other words, H1 was accepted and it means that there was a significant effect of oral peer corrective feedback by using YouTube on students’ writing skill. Furthermore, the result of the finding also showed that the learning process was also able to increase their knowledge and ideas about the topics they write. The development of ideas and knowledge in explaining topics to be structured into an interesting content.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to find out the effect of TTW (Think-Talk-Write) strategy on students’ writing achievement at SMAN 4 Kendari. This study used quasi-experimental design that consisted of experimental class and control class. The sample of this study were students at class X MIA2 and X MIAOlimpiade at SMAN 4 Kendari in academic years 2019/2020. The sample taken by using random sampling and the total numbers of students were 72, 36 for the experimental class (X MIA2) and 36 for the control class (X MIAOlimpiade). The instrument of the study was a writing test that focused on descriptive text. The writer collected the data by giving pre-test in both of the classes, giving treatment in experimental by giving TTW strategy and non-TTW strategy in control class, and giving post-test in both of the classes. In analyzing the data, the study used SPSS 16.0 version and independent sample t-test for hypothesis testing. The findings of this study showed that students’ mean score of post-test in the experimental class was 70.14. It was raised 10.31 points from its pre-test (59.86), while students’ mean score of post-test in control class was 65.5. It was only raised 6.21 points from its pre-test (59.29). Besides, the value of the degree of freedom (df)= 68, t=3.523, and sig (2 tailed)=0.001. It means that the probability (sig) value was lower than α (p-value < α or 0.001 < 0.05). Therefore, TTW strategy has a significant effect on students’ writing achievement at first-grade of SMAN 4 Kendari.

Abstract

The objective of this research is to find out the effect of using card game on students’ speaking achievement at MA Karae. It was conducted in the pre-experimental research design. The population of this research was the students of class X IPA MA Karae which consists of two classes with 53 students, while the subject of this research is the class X science program consisting of 28 students. The research data were collected by giving pretest and post-test to students in the form of oral tests related to the topic of personal introductory expressions, intentions and favorite places. Data were analyzed using SPSS 16.0 using (descriptive analysis and inferencial statistic). Meanwhile, to test the hypothesis, the researcher used a t-test (paired sample t-test) which was calculated through SPSS 16.0. The result shows that there is a significant effect of card playing technique on students' speaking achievement in the first year MA Karae students. It also shows that the use of this technique can improve the accuracy and fluency of students' speaking. It can be seen from the average post-test score is 53.21, while the average score of the pre-test is 29.28. To prove the hypothesis, the researcher concludes by comparing the Sig (2 tailed) value with the significance value α. This shows that the Sig (2 tailed) value was 0,000 while the significance value α is 0.05. So, it can be concluded that the Sig (2 tailed) value is lower than the significance value α (0,000 <0.05). In other words, (H1) is accepted. It means that there is a significant influence of the card game technique on students 'speaking ability in the first year of the MA Karae.

To collect the data, pre-test was given and taught by using Reading Racetracks technique, and giving post-test. Mean of post-test (77.58) in experimental class was higher than pre-test score (53.33). While, in control class was also had improvement but not too significant. It could be seen on post-test score (67.65) was higher than pre-test score (40.30).Based on the calculation of T-test, it showed that tcount = 2.199, while t-table = 2.010 at level of α = 0.05 with DF = 42. It means that tcount was higher than ttable, Therefore, H0 was rejected and H1 was accepted. This could be concluded that there was a significant effect of using Reading Racetracks to improve students‟ vocabulary mastery at Class VIII/A of SMPN 1 Konawe Selatan.

The findings of this research show that the majority of the students have habits of listening to English songs and most of them have good achievements in listening. After correlating them, it was found that the value of the correlation coefficient is 0.417 in the significant value of 0.013. From the sig-value seems that there is a significant correlation between the variables. The correlation-value shows that the correlation is positive in the moderate category. So, it can be concluded that there is a significant correlation between students’ habits in listening to English songs and their listening achievement, and the correlation is categorized as a positive and moderate level of correlation.
