Abstract

As many as 53% of adolescents have severe energy deficiency and 48% severe protein deficiency. The risk is greater for young women, mothers-to-be, where nutritional deficiencies will have an impact on the health of the mother and baby during pregnancy and childbirth, such as children born with low birth weight who can later become stunted. A youth posyandu service program is needed to prevent stunting problems as early as possible. This study aims to determine the effect of empowering Youth Posyandu Cadres on knowledge of attitudes and behavior of adolescents about nutrition in preventing stunting in Kendari City. This type of research is a quasi-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest design which was carried out in July-November 2021, carried out on 45 posyandu cadres and 100 youth posyandu participants in the working area of UPTD Puskesmas Puuwatu and UPTD Puskesmas Abeli Kendari City. Before the training most of the youth posyandu cadres were unskilled, after the training most of the posyandu cadres were skilled. The knowledge, attitudes and behavior of cadres at the pretest were mostly lacking, at the post-test most of them became good. Most of the youth participating in the posyandu had less knowledge, attitudes and behavior on the pretest, after peer education the aspects of knowledge, attitudes and behavior of the teenagers were mostly good. Statistically there are significant differences before and after peer training and education on the characteristics of the study. Regular and continuous training is required.

Abstract

Numeracy learning in early childhood serves as an essential foundation for developing logical thinking skills and understanding numerical concepts. However, many teachers still face challenges in selecting engaging and age-appropriate learning media. This study aims to describe the role of teachers in early childhood numeracy learning through the use of number block media. The research method employed a literature review by examining various scholarly sources related to numeracy learning strategies, the teacher’s role, and the effectiveness of concrete media in early childhood education. The results indicate that teachers play a crucial role as designers, implementers, and facilitators of enjoyable learning activities. Number block media help children understand numbers concretely through play-based activities. The study concludes that the use of number block media is effective in stimulating children’s numeracy skills. It is recommended that teachers continue to develop creativity in selecting contextual and engaging concrete media for early childhood learners.

Abstract

Nutritional problems in adolescents include stunting, wasting, chronic energy deficiency, micronutrient deficiencies, anaemia and eating disorders. These problems can have an impact on reducing adolescent productivity and the risk of non-communicable diseases. This community service activity aims to empower adolescent posyandu cadres in improving balanced nutrition behaviour for adolescents with nutrition counselling methods for adolescent posyandu cadres. The results showed that the knowledge of adolescents before counselling was mostly in the poor category, namely 72.4% (n = 21), after counselling knowledge increased, more adolescents had knowledge in the good category, namely 48.3% (n = 14). There is an effect of empowering adolescent cadres with counselling methods to increase the knowledge of adolescent cadres about balanced nutrition.

Abstract

Introduction:Islamic boarding schools, as residential educational institutions, face challenges in maintaining the health and nutritional status of students (santri), particularly concerning Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (CHLB). Santri living in densely populated environments with limited sanitation facilities are vulnerable to health issues. This study aimed to provide an overview of the nutritional status and CHLB implementation in Islamic boarding schools in West Sulawesi. Methods: This descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted from July to October 2024 among 260 santri from three Islamic boarding schools in West Sulawesi, Indonesia. The sample size was determined using the Lemeshow formula and randomly selected from the population. Data were collected through structured interviews and analyzed using descriptive statistical tests. Results: The results showed that 81.2% of the santri had a normal nutritional status, while 6.5% were undernourished, 8.8% were overweight, and 3.5% were obese. Bathing twice a day had the highest compliance rate (mean 4.75), while not sharing personal items had the lowest compliance rate (mean 2.96).Conclusion: Although most santri have a normal nutritional status, some groups still experience undernutrition, obesity, and risky health behaviors. Continuous interventions in the form of nutrition education and CHLB improvement programs are necessary to raise awareness and promote healthy behaviors in Islamic boarding schools.
