Abstract

Abstract

The slope of the land can influence accessibility, water movement, and soil characteristics, thereby affecting the productivity of agroforestry plants. This study aims to analyze the effect of land slope on agroforestry productivity. The methods employed included field observations and questionnaires to collect data. A total of 100 farmers from various locations participated as respondents in this study. Regression analysis was conducted to determine and compare the influence of land slope on the productivity of agroforestry crops. The results of the analysis indicated that land slope does not significantly affect land productivity. The highest net income for farmers on slopes of 15-30% was from chili crops, amounting to Rp 76,987,600 per year with a B/C Ratio of 2.97, while the lowest was from cauliflower crops, with an income of Rp 31,586,800 per year and a B/C ratio of 1.74. The distribution of plant species across different slope levels was relatively uniform. Thus, the slope of the land does not have a significant effect on the success and productivity of the agroforestry system.

Abstract

Forest management as stated in the forestry law no. 41 of 1999 it is explained that forest management must be carried out in a sustainable manner in compliance with the principles of sustainable forest management. The purpose of the study was to analyze the contribution of agroforestri management activities to household income in Sumbermulyo Village, Pesanggaran District, Banyuwangi Regency. The research was conducted in November 2020 at the coordinates of 8o32'46.3"S 114o 06'35.0"E. In this study, the samples to be taken were all respondents, namely 70 people who were obtained from the number of agroforestri management communities in Sumbermulyo Village. The data analysis carried out was the sperman rank correlation test for the contribution of agroforestri management to farmers' income. Based on the results of the study, it was shown that the working time of the male sex contributed more to the management of agroforestri than the female sex. The contribution of agroforestri shows that the variables of agroforestri type, marketed selling price of agroforestri, amount of fertilizer, and production costs per harvest have a correlation with household income.

Abstract

The implementation of the Social Forestry (SF) program in Indonesia has an important role in improving community welfare and promoting the sustainability of forest resources. The alignment of environmental conservation goals with initiatives aimed at improving community welfare can be achieved through the implementation of social forestry. Forest sustainability is considered to be in good condition when both ecological and economic objectives can be maintained. This study examined the level of welfare in Forest Farmers Group (KTH) Bhakti Alam Lestari through income contribution and forest sustainability. The results showed that the SF program provided an average contribution of 28.5% of total income. The welfare status of the KTH Bhakti Alam Lestari members was assessed based on the poverty line set by the Central Agency on Statistics Indonesia (BPS)2022. Based on this data, 54% of members of KTH Bhakti Alam Lestari are classified as underprivileged. SF management generates a monthly per capita income of 9,8 USD (IDR. 161,478). This has reduced the poverty rate to 20% of KTH members categorized as poor, and 80% classified as non-poor. Several efforts have been made to increase land cover, resulting in a decrease in open land classification from 19% to 15%, and an increase in low land cover classification from 25% to 32%, which was characterized by a greater diversity of plant species, especially from the recently planted MPTS plants on the farmers' land.

Abstract

The Sumatran elephant (Elephas maximus sumatranus) is a large mammal protected species and categorized as endangered according to the IUCN Red List. Habitat management includes control and regulation forest vegetation, open areas, water sources, salting sites, and resting areas for good animal welfare. The Seblat Elephant Training Center (SETC) is a conservation area to protect the Sumatran Elephant from extinction and is an ecotourism destination. This study aimed to analyze the welfare level and management of the Sumatran elephant in the SETC. This research used structured interview method to determine the indicators of the animal welfare level. Calculation of feed productivity and secondary data collection were used to improve the welfare level of the Sumatran Elephant. The research result stated that the welfare level of Sumatran elephant was classified as excellent (the implementation achievement value is 74.3%). In addition, the development of observations suggests that freedom from environmental discomfort needs to be improved by providing quarantine cages and reproductive cages to support natural behavior. Environmental conditions also support the welfare level of the Sumatran elephant.  In conclusion, this facility is properly conducive to the welfare of Sumatran elephants.
