Abstract

Coating of Cu/Ni with nitrocellulose (NC) has been carried out with the aim of determining the effect of using NC as a protective film on the sensitivity and activation energy of the sensor. The samples used were Cu/Ni and Cu/Ni/Cu where the NC coating on Cu/Ni was carried out using a spray method with a pressure of 1.2 Mpa. Both sensor samples were used to measure the temperature of liquid nitrogen (liquid N2) which was varied from -160C - 0C. In addition to temperature, voltage and current were also measured. The sensitivity value was obtained from the slope of the resistance curve against temperature, while the activation energy was obtained from the slope of the logarithm of conductivity against one per absolute temperature. From the sensitivity test, it is known that both sensors have a tendency to be more sensitive when the temperature is lowered, but the presence of the NC layer causes a decrease in sensitivity of up to 18.9%, namely from 3.95 /C to 3.18 /C at a temperature of -160C following the equation S(T)=0.10e-0.012T. The use of NC protective layer can also increase the activation energy by 1.3%, namely from (4.29  0.01)x10-9 eV to (4.35  0.01)x10-9 eV. These results can be used as a consideration for temperature sensor manufacturers that the use of NC protective layer is important but can reduce sensor sensitivity.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the sensitivity of a gas sensor based on a Cu substrate coated with SnO2 through an electroplating process, involving variations in electrolyte solution temperature and thermal oxidation. The deposition parameters were set as follows: electrolyte solution prepared by dissolving SnCl2 in distilled water, applied voltage of 4.5 V, electrode distance of 3 cm, and electroplating duration of 3 minutes. Sensor sensitivity tests were carried out by observing the food decomposition process, placing both the food sample and sensor in a testing chamber. Data acquisition of temperature, humidity, CO2 concentration, and sensor resistance was conducted using transducers and Logger Pro software. Based on the results, the sensor sample with an electrolyte temperature of 60°C (sample B) exhibited better performance than the sensor sample with an electrolyte temperature of 30°C (sample A). Sample B demonstrated greater responsiveness to temperature changes, with a coefficient of determination R2 = 0.66943. It also showed better detection of CO2 concentration changes with R2 = 0.98225. This improvement is attributed to a more effective electroplating process, as indicated by the mass change and thickness of the SnO2 layer. The sensitivity of sample B, defined by the equation S([CO2]) = 9.42E-5 - 1.17E-9[CO2], was superior to that of sample A, which followed the equation S([CO2]) = -2.34E-4 + 4.25E-9[CO2], as shown in the plotted graphs. Sample B exhibited a negative linear curve with a gentle slope, indicating a stable gas sensor behaviour.

Abstract

Science education at the primary level plays a critical role in fostering students’ higher-order thinking skills, particularly their problem-solving abilities. However, many elementary students continue to face challenges in developing these competencies, leading to generally low levels of performance. This study investigates the effectiveness of the Eco Explorers educational game in enhancing the problem-solving skills of fifth-grade students within the topic of ecosystems. A pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design was employed, involving 25 participants selected through a non-probability sampling technique. Data were collected using observation sheets and standardized problem-solving tests, and analyzed using descriptive statistics, paired sample t-tests, and effect size calculations (Cohen’s d) with SPSS version 26. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in students’ problem-solving abilities (p = 0.000 < 0.05), with a large effect size (Cohen’s d = 2.55). These findings reinforce previous studies highlighting the benefits of game-based learning for cognitive development. In conclusion, the Eco Explorers game is a highly effective instructional tool for improving students’ problem-solving skills in science education, particularly within ecological contexts. The study implies that incorporating interactive digital games into science instruction can significantly enhance student engagement and higher-order thinking, ultimately supporting more meaningful and effective learning experiences in primary education.

Abstract

The distinction between heat and temperature is fundamental in physics learning, yet it remains a persistent source of student misconceptions. Many learners interpret heat as a tangible substance stored within an object or assume that temperature is equivalent to the amount of heat possessed. Such misunderstandings hinder the development of deeper concepts in thermodynamics and energy transfer. This study aims to investigate senior high school students’ conceptual understanding of heat and temperature through a qualitative lens. The research involved 30 Grade XI students from a public high school in Indonesia. Data were collected using a conceptual diagnostic test followed by semi-structured interviews that probed students’ reasoning about everyday thermal phenomena. Thematic analysis was applied to categorize misconceptions and identify underlying reasoning models. Findings revealed four dominant patterns: (1) the substance model of heat, where students described heat as a material that flows from hot to cold bodies; (2) the equation model of temperature, in which temperature was mistakenly treated as the total amount of heat; (3) the cold transfer misconception, where students believed coldness itself moves from one body to another; and (4) the size–temperature confusion, where larger objects were assumed to always have higher temperature. These conceptions align with reports in international literature, indicating the universal nature of such difficulties. The study underscores the value of qualitative exploration for uncovering the reasoning behind misconceptions, not merely their frequency. Implications for teaching include the use of particle-level representations, predict–observe–explain activities, and simple calorimetry experiments to help students reconstruct scientifically accurate models of heat and temperature.

Abstract

Unggulan Aisyiyah Primary School, as a flagship Sekolah Penggerak in Bantul Regency, has consistently implemented differentiated instruction within the Merdeka Curriculum. However, while previous studies have widely examined differentiated instruction as a teaching strategy, limited research has focused on how it is managed systematically to foster student well-being in primary schools. This study addresses this gap by asking: How is differentiated instruction managed to enhance student well-being in a primary school context? The objective is to formulate a contextual management model that supports students’ cognitive, social, and emotional well-being. A descriptive qualitative approach was used, involving interviews with the principal, the vice principal for curriculum, two fourth-grade teachers, and two students, complemented by classroom observations and document analysis. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis procedures, including coding, theme development, and interpretation. The findings reveal that differentiated instruction management aligns with Tomlinson’s framework and encompasses four components: planning, organizing, implementation, and supervision. Planning involves identifying student needs and collaborative module preparation through team teaching. Organizing focuses on flexible grouping and creating a positive learning environment. Implementation uses multi-method and multi-source instructional strategies tailored to student profiles. Supervision is conducted through coaching, counseling, and mentoring to ensure continuous improvement. This model highlights that effective differentiated instruction management can enhance student engagement, social interaction, and emotional security, thus strengthening student well-being. Strengthening implementation requires practical guidelines, sustained mentoring, time management, and collaboration with psychological support professionals.

Innovation of Appropriate Technology in Mixed Fermented–Dry Feed for Improving Sheep Farming Efficiency among Productive Elderly Farmers Abstract This community service program aims to improve the efficiency and empowerment of productive elderly groups through the application of an appropriate technology for fermented–dry mixed feed in sheep farming in Argodadi Village, Sedayu District, Bantul Regency. The program was initiated due to low livestock productivity, which stems from limited abilities of elderly farmers in feed management and livestock waste utilization. The implementation method employed a Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) approach, consisting of socialization, technical training, technology application, mentoring, and evaluation stages. A total of 40 participants from two partner groups, BETERNAK and LANTERA, were actively involved in all stages of the program. Measurement results indicated improvements across various production aspects. Feed efficiency increased by 35%. Average sheep weight gain rose from 0.6 kg/month to 0.9 kg/month. The daily working time of elderly farmers decreased from 3.2 hours to 1.8 hours per day. The production empowerment score increased from 2.81 (moderate category) to 4.29 (very good category). A total of 92.5% of participants were able to independently produce mixed feed, and 87.5% understood biosecurity principles and livestock waste processing into organic fertilizer. In addition, the program generated an economic impact in the form of an increase in additional income of approximately IDR 600,000–800,000 per member per month. Based on these indicators, the application of this technology demonstrates effectiveness in supporting the daily activities of elderly farmers and enhancing the capacity and independence of the groups in sustainable livestock management. The adoption of the mixed-feed technology also has long-term impacts, including improved livestock productivity, strengthened capabilities of elderly farmers in farm management, and increased group self-reliance in feed production and waste processing. The technology is simple, time-efficient, and easily replicable, enabling the groups to maintain its practice sustainably. The program’s sustainability plan includes establishing a group-scale feed production unit, utilizing organic fertilizer as an additional value-added product, and strengthening networks with village authorities and relevant government agencies to support the development of sustainable livestock enterprises. The outcomes of this program contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly poverty reduction (SDG 1), food security (SDG 2), decent work and economic growth (SDG 8), and responsible consumption and production (SDG 12).
