Abstract

Cerebral palsy (CP) is a neurological disorder that can affect a child's motor and cognitive development, including language acquisition. From a psycholinguistic perspective, language acquisition in children with CP is a challenge in itself due to limitations in motor, sensory, and cognitive aspects that impact the ability to speak, understand, and produce language. This article discusses how neurological and environmental factors play a role in the language acquisition of children with CP as well as intervention strategies that can support their language development. With a psycholinguistic approach, this study examines various factors that influence language acquisition in children with CP, including the involvement of certain brain areas, communication adaptation, and the use of assistive technology. The results of the discussion show that a multidisciplinary approach involving speech therapy, early language stimulation, and social support can help children with CP develop their language skills.

Abstract

Abstract

In early childhood, inadequate parenting and excessive screen exposure are often linked to delays in first language acquisition. A bilingual environment is also suspected to contribute to these challenges. If left unaddressed, such factors may lead to language development issues, including speech delay and symptoms of autism. This study uses an exploratory case study approach involving two children, aged 4 and 5, raised in bilingual households. Data were collected through language behavior observations and interviews with their parents. Findings indicate that both children exhibited speech delays and signs within the autism spectrum. These difficulties were associated with inconsistent parenting and the high linguistic complexity from multiple languages used at home, which hindered optimal language development. Additionally, comorbid health issues such as dental caries and early tooth extraction negatively impacted their speech ability. The study emphasizes the importance of consistent, responsive parenting in supporting first language development in bilingual environments.

Abstract

The widespread circulation of hoaxes and hate speech on social media has become one of the major challenges in the digital era. Provocative content, such as the Fufufafa case, demonstrates how language can be used as a tool to manipulate public opinion and trigger social conflict. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach by analyzing user posts and comments containing hoaxes and hate speech. Data were collected through screenshot documentation, categorized, and analyzed within a forensic linguistics framework, focusing on lexical, pragmatic, and rhetorical aspects. The findings reveal that hoaxes are characterized by excessive generalizations, pseudo-factual claims, and hyperbolic diction; whereas hate speech is marked by negative labeling, stereotyping, and provocative diction targeting specific group identities. These results highlight the potential of forensic linguistics as a significant instrument in detecting and preventing the spread of harmful content in digital spaces. The study is expected to contribute academically to forensic linguistics research and provide practical benefits in enhancing society’s digital literacy.

Abstract

Hate speech on social media necessitates forensic linguistic analysis to decode its legal and societal implications. This study addresses the gap in research on gender-targeted cyber violence against high-profile women, employing descriptive qualitative methods to analyze 26 hate-speech samples directed at Jada Smith from Twitter (2022–2024). Using Canadian legal frameworks (Sections 319, 372 Criminal Code; Human Rights Act), data were categorized via pragmatic, semantic, and syntactic analysis. Findings reveal five hate-speech typologies: defamatory libel (35%, n=9), false messages/harassing communications (27%, n=7), willful promotion of hatred (15%, n=4), public provocation of violence (12%, n=3), and stereotyping (12%, n=3). Dominant tactics include dehumanizing metaphors ("gutter," "road kill"), violent directives ("kill yourself"), and gendered slurs ("bitch"). The study concludes that language weaponization severely damages reputations, with Twitter’s lax moderation exacerbating harm. Forensic linguistics proves vital for legal evidence and platform policy reform.
