Abstract

Self-identity is a vital aspect of adolescent development that does not automatically mature with age, but rather requires a deep reflective process and sufficient psychological support. School-based counseling services, particularly individual counseling with a reality therapy approach, can serve as a restorative space for students experiencing identity confusion. This study aims to describe the process and outcomes of applying reality therapy techniques in helping a vocational high school student shape a clearer sense of self. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving one tenth-grade student at SMK Negeri 18 Jakarta. The findings reveal that individual counseling based on reality therapy helps the counselee recognize psychological needs, re-evaluate life choices, and build confidence in engaging with social roles. The counseling process emerged as a transformative experience that touched the student's personal and emotional dimensions, showing tangible improvements in behavior, social participation, and self-perception. This study recommends wider implementation of similar counseling approaches, supported by school policies that prioritize students’ long-term psychological growth.

Abstract

Polite behavior among students is an essential aspect of character development that can be influenced by their ability to manage emotions effectively. The purpose of this study was to determine the significant effect of emotion management on students' polite behavior after participating in group counseling services. This study used a quantitative approach with experimental and survey methods. The research sample consisted of 58 students from class X PM 1 and X MP at SMK Al Makmur Jagakarsa, South Jakarta, who were selected through a One–Group Pretest-Posttest. The instruments used in the study included a questionnaire that had been modified from relevant studies and tested for validity and reliability, along with interview guides, observation sheets, and documentation to support data collection through triangulation. The data were analyzed using normality testing and the Paired Sample T-Test hypothesis test using SPSS Statistics Version 20. The results of the analysis showed a significance value (2-tailed) of 0.000 in the pre-test and post-test, which is less than 0.05. The results of this study indicate that group counseling services focused on improving students' understanding of managing emotions can shape polite behavior. The results of this study are useful in helping students understand and develop their emotional potential and shape themselves positively.

Abstract

Professional commitment is an essential aspect that teachers need to continuously develop in order to perform their roles effectively and maintain educational quality. However, several factors may influence the level of teachers’ professional commitment, particularly empowerment and trust. This study aimed to determine whether empowerment and trust have significant effects on teachers’ professional commitment. The research was conducted among public junior high school teachers in Bogor City. A total of 184 teachers were selected as respondents through a multistage random sampling technique, while the sample size was determined using the Slovin formula. Data regarding professional commitment, empowerment, and trust were collected using measurement scales that had previously passed validity and reliability testing. The research hypotheses were analyzed using multiple linear regression with the assistance of SPSS software. The findings revealed that both empowerment and trust significantly influence teachers’ professional commitment. Therefore, strengthening these factors may enhance commitment. Further studies are recommended to explore specific indicators of empowerment and trust related to teachers’ professional commitment.
