Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the success of the management of a language laboratory in improving students' Arabic language competence. This was a qualitative descriptive study. The research findings show that the language learning process through the laboratory increased the students' listening and speaking skill. The language learning process through the laboratory was supported by extracurricular activities. This activity also had a positive impact on language learning achievement of students who previously did not understand Arabic. Then, laboratory as a place for accommodating students' talent such as laboratories was very helpful for students in the learning process; this was because the students could communicate directly with native speakers. The implementation of the development of teaching and learning activities using the Arabic language laboratory was directed to students through inservice training programs. The evaluation program was conducted by Arabic language lecturers to see the level of achievement obtained by students after finishing studying in two ways, namely competitive and non-competitive.

Abstract

This article aims to describe the process of phonological changes in Arabic loanwords in the "Jambi Malay Dictionary Jambi Dialect Seberang-Indonesia". The theory used in this article is the theory of sound change proposed by Crowly (1987). The source of this research data was obtained from "Jambi Malay Dictionary (Dialect of Jambi Seberang) Indonesia" and " Dictionary of Indonesian-Arabic Al-Munawwir". The data collection technique used is to use the listen method with record and read techniques. The data analysis method used is the translational padan method. The results showed that it can be concluded that thephonological changes of Arabic loanwords in the "Jambi Malay Dictionary (Dialect of Jambi Seberang) Indonesia" are divided into two aspects based on Crowly's theory. First, Lenisi is a sound attenuation consisting of double consonant reduction, afferesis, and apocope. Pattenuation of letter sounds occurs in the /q/ sound to the /k/ sound when it is located at the beginning of a word and the /q/ sound to become a /ʔ/ sound when it is located at the end of a word; the /kh/ sound becomes the /h/ sound; attenuation from the high vowel /û/ to the medium vowel /ʊ/; Attenuation of sounds also occurs in /ṭ/ to /t/ sounds; weakening of the sound of the sound /r/ into the sound /R/ which is similar to the sound /gh/ in the speech of Jambi Malay dialect Seberang. Second, there is a strengthening of the letter sound in Arabic absorption words in the Seberang dialect of Jambi Malay. Letter sound reinforcement occurs in the /t/ sound as a stronger sound that is a change from /h/; the change in the /p/ sound is seen as a stronger sound than the /f/ sound in the Jambi Malay (dialect of Seberang Jambi).

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide insight into how Arabic language teachers design lessons, implement them, and assess student learning. Observation guides, interviews, documentation, and questionnaires were used to collect data, which were then analyzed to determine the instructional designs and strategies employed. The study was conducted at SDIT Mutiara Al-Madani Sungai Penuh. The findings revaled that: 1) The pedagogical competence of Arabic language teachers was generally good but still required enhancement, particularly their understanding of students, including various psychological aspects, learners’ needs and interests, talents, and individual differences; and 2) The management of Arabic language instruction related to pedagogical competence at the school did not fully meet the standards expected of professional teachers. This was evident from several aspects: first, instructional planning: some teachers did not design their own lesson plans; second, instructional implementation: teachers relied on a single method, primarily lecturing, rather than employing a variety of approaches; and third, evaluation of learning: teachers did not develop evaluation instruments or assessment questions adequately.
