Abstract

The increasing global prevalence of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) necessitates the development of adaptive educational media, particularly to address the core challenges faced by autistic children in verbal communication, maintaining focus, and understanding abstract material, including the religious activity of reading Short Surah of the Qur'an. This gap creates an urgent need for effective teaching tools that are both visually engaging and based on tested behavioral interventions. This research aims to develop an inclusive, child-friendly, and adaptive educational medium to overcome learning saturation and enhance the focus of autistic children in recognizing Al-Qur'an readings. The primary strategy is to integrate the visual-auditory advantages of 2D Motion Graphic Media with the structured behavioral framework of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA). The media development focuses on Surah Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq, and An-Nas. The study adopts a Research and Development (R&D) approach, executed through the phases of Design Thinking (Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Testing). The development method includes designing content that applies ABA principles, such as 3-5 times repetition, visual prompting, and consistent reinforcement. The media's visual design is carefully crafted to avoid overstimulation (using high-contrast colors, functional animation, and slow narration). The development subjects are Children with Autism at SLB Tamima Mumtaz. This media is expected to function as an inclusive learning innovation that extends the ABA application model into the context of technology-based religious education.

Abstract

Families with children with special needs (ABK) face complex relationships among family members. This often becomes a stressor that impacts parental resilience. Resilience is a form of ability of parents with special needs to overcome difficulties or problems caused by the presence and condition of children with special needs. Strength-Based Counseling is a counseling approach that uses a positive psychology approach and emphasizes the strengths of an individual or group of people. Strength-based counseling is considered more appropriate for today's era, due to its practicality and emphasis on positive aspects. This research is a case study, with research methods including observation, and interviews. Resilience is a crucial aspect of an individual's life, especially for parents of children with special needs. This study demonstrates that through the application of strengths-based counseling, parents of children with special needs gain reinforcement in their protective factors, thereby increasing their resilience. The results indicate that the use of strengths-based counseling can make parents of children with special needs feel better understood, more confident, and receive help and support, thereby increasing their resilience.

Abstract

Inclusive higher education is a crucial pillar in promoting social justice in the field of education, particularly for students with special needs who are entitled to equal access to educational services. Universitas PGRI Adi Buana Surabaya (UAB) is one of the higher education institutions implementing inclusive education by providing reasonable accommodations, including adjustments to facilities, learning methods, as well as social and psychological support. Reasonable accommodations are essential not only to facilitate academic participation but also to support the psychological well-being of students with special needs. This study aims to describe the forms and implementation of reasonable accommodations for students with special needs and to analyze their urgency in supporting students’ psychological well-being at UAB. The research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method. The research subjects include students with special needs, lecturers, administrative staff, and non-disabled students who have directly interacted with students with special needs. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed descriptively to examine the relationship between the availability of reasonable accommodations and students’ psychological well-being. The findings are expected to demonstrate that reasonable accommodations play a significant role in enhancing various aspects of the psychological well-being of students with special needs. These findings are expected to serve as a foundation for policy development and strategic planning in higher education institutions, particularly UAB, to strengthen inclusive education systems and foster a campus environment that is welcoming and accessible to all students.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the low understanding of students with intellectual disabilities at Batu State Special Needs School regarding the risks and mitigation of natural disasters, even though they are located in a geographical area prone to flash floods. This lack of knowledge creates a serious safety threat due to unpreparedness for emergency situations. The focus of this study is to evaluate the effect of the educational video entitled "I'm Ready, I'm Safe" on improving students' disaster mitigation literacy. The study applied a quantitative method with a one-group pretest-posttest pre-experimental design. The research steps included administering an initial test (pretest), providing treatment through showing the educational video six times, and a final test (posttest). Data were analyzed using a statistical sign test. The results showed a significant increase in students' understanding, where the average pretest score of 12.5 increased drastically to 92.5 in the posttest. The statistical analysis produced a calculated Z value of 2, which exceeds the critical Z table value of 1.96 at a 5% significance level. The main conclusion is that the educational video "I'm Ready, I'm Safe" has a significant effect on improving students' understanding of disaster mitigation. This media has proven to be effective as a concrete and representative learning tool in helping students with intellectual disabilities understand safety procedures through attractive, easy-to-understand visualizations to strengthen their preparedness at school in a real and appropriate manner for the safety of students in the future.

Abstract

Training self-care skills in children with autism is essential to help them achieve greater independence and reduce their reliance on others in daily activities. At Mutiara Hati School in Sidoarjo, several children with autism still experience difficulties in folding clothes as part of their personal care skills. Through the implementation of flip-fold media, the researcher aimed to support and enhance their ability to develop this skill more effectively. This study was designed to examine the extent to which the flip-fold media influences the improvement of clothing-folding skills among children with autism at Mutiara Hati Sidoarjo. The research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design, specifically the one-group pretest-posttest model. Data collection techniques included performance tests, direct observation, and supporting documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the non-parametric Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results of the analysis indicated that the calculated Zvalue (Zcount = 2,74) was higher than the critical Zvalue (Ztable = 1,83) at a 10% significance level with a two-tailed test. Therefore, it can be concluded that the use of flip-fold media has a statistically significant effect on improving clothing-folding skills in children with autism at Mutiara Hati Sidoarjo.
