Abstract

The role of the pump in any pumping system is to provide sufficient pressure to overcome the operating pressure of the system in order to move fluid (water) at a required flow rate to the user. In this study, a mathematics model was used for design in order to provide adequate water supply to every quarter in Federal Polytechnic Mubi, Adamawa state Nigeria. According to the research, the proposed water supply requires a 1360W power pump, a 1500W inverter, and a 1500W solar panel. Because the suggested water supply is based on renewable energy, the study found that it can be used at Federal Polytechnic Mubi to increase their supply for human use. As a result, the FPM management has reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Abstract

Pada bangunan untuk komersial maupun untuk hunian, konsumsi energi listrik terbesar adalah dari pengkondisi udara (AC). Persentase konsumsi energi listrik oleh AC di atas 50%, bahkan pada kondisi tertentu dapat mencapai 70%. Selain ditentukan oleh kinerja AC, kuantitas konsumsi energi listrik juga dipengaruhi oleh suhu di dalam ruangan. Semakin rendah setting suhu ruangan, semakin tinggi konsumsi energi listriknya. Sebaliknya, bila diinginkan konsumsi energi listrik berkurang, maka setting suhu ruangan juga harus dinaikkan. Namun kenaikan setting suhu ruangan ada batasnya, karena bila terlalu tinggi, kenyamanan termal yang diharapkan tidak tercapai. Penelitian ini dilakukan pada AC jenis split yang menggunakan R410A sebagai refrigeran dengan kapasitas kompresor sebesar 1 HP (0,75 kW). Pada penelitian ini, setting suhu ruangan diatur dari 20oC sampai 25oC dengan kenaikkan setiap 1oC. Dari hasil pengujian menunjukkan bahwa penurunan konsumsi energi listrik tiap kenaikan 1oC tidak sama. Sebagai contoh, penurunan konsumsi energi listrik hanya sebesar 3,8% bila setting suhu dinaikkan dari 20oC ke 21oC, sedangkan pada kenaikan setting suhu dari 21oC ke 22oC, penurunan konsumsi energi listrik adalah sebesar 13,5%. Penurunan konsumsi energi listrik terbesar adalah sebesar 18,1%, terjadi pada kenaikkan setting suhu dari 23oC ke 24oC.

Abstract

R404A refrigerant is still widely used as the working fluid in freezers with temperatures below -30°C. However, because of R404A’s high global warming potential (GWP) value, its use as a working fluid should be stopped immediately. One alternative is an environmentally friendly refrigerant, that is R290. In this study, the R404A refrigerant was replaced by R290 in a freezer that can reach -40°C. In the case of replacing a refrigerant with a different type, the reference used is the same charging volume in the system. The filling mass of R290 is the ratio of the density of R404A to R290 at its evaporation temperature, which is -40°C. The amount of R404A’s mass filling is 170 g, while the amount of R290’s mass filling is 62.9 g. Based on a 120-minutes testing, replacing R404A with R290 has resulted in the reduction of power input by 6.0%, as well as in the slight increase of its cooling capacity, which is 2.42%. As a result of the input power decrease and the cooling capacity increase, the COP in the freezer also increased, namely by 8.05%. More importantly, if a leak occurs in the refrigerant, the replacement of R404A with R290 can help reduce gas emissions that contribute to global warming. It is because the GWP value of R404A refrigerant, which is 3922, is replaced by the GWP value of R290 refrigerant, which is only 3.

Abstract

Udara bersih adalah kebutuhan dasar untuk menjamin kesehatan bagi penghuni rumah. Asap rokok adalah salah satu polutan yang sering berada di rumah. Efek negatif dari asap rokok pada kesehatan telah dilaporkan oleh beberapa ahli. Namun, hingga saat ini, masih banyak dijumpai perokok yang merokok di tempat sembarang di sekitar rumah, seperti di teras, di dalam ruang tamu dan di kamar mandi. Perilaku ini akan berdampak buruk bagi kualitas udara di dalam rumah. Partikulat berdiameter kurang dari 2.5 µm (PM2.5) dan kurang dari 10 µm (PM10) adalah salah satu polutan utama yang dihasilkan oleh asap rokok. Berdasarkan beberapa penelitian, melaporkan bahwa selain akan mengendap di paru-paru, PM2.5 dan PM10 dapat menyebabkan beberapa penyakit, antara lain asma, ISPA (infeksi saluran pernafasan akut), kanker paru-paru dan meningkatkan tingkat mortalitas. Pada penelitian ini dilakukan pengukuran PM2.5 dan PM10 di dalam ruang tamu akibat perokok yang merokok di kamar mandi, di dalam ruang tamu dan di teras. Pengukuran konsentrasi PM2.5 dan PM10 dilakukan di rumah dengan luas sekitar 45 m2. Pengambilan data dilakukan sebelum merokok, 15 menit setelah rokok dinyalakan, 30 dan 60 menit setelah rokok dimatikan.  Berdasarkan pengukuran didapat bahwa konsetrasi PM2.5 dan PM10 di ruang tamu akan meningkat di atas baku mutu untuk semua lokasi merokok di area rumah. Meskipun perokok merokok di teras dengan pintu ruang tamu tertutup, konsentrasi PM2.5 dan PM10 di ruang tamu tetap meningkat, dari yang sebelumya 27 dan 68 µg/m3 menjadi 63 dan 127 µg/m3. Dari penelitian ini didapat kesimpulan bahwa meskipun merokok di luar rumah, dengan pintu tertutup, tetap dapat meningkatkan konsentrasi PM2.5 dan PM10 di ruang tamu jauh di atas di atas baku mutu. Tentu saja hal ini akan berdampak buruk bagi seluruh penghuni rumah.

Abstract

Mini freezer yang terdapat di pasaran umumnya memiliki temperatur kabin hanya sampai -20oC. Penelitian ini bertujuan menampilkan metode perhitungan panjang pipa evaporator sehingga dapat mencapai temperatur kabin hingga -40oC dengan menggunakan refrigeran R404A. Refrigeran R404A selain relatif lebih ramah lingkungan dibandingkan dengan R22, juga memiliki temperatur Normal Boiling Point (NBP) lebih rendah dari R22. Kapasitas kompresor yang digunakan adalah 250 W yang khusus dirancang untuk refrigeran R404A. Berdasarkan pengujian didapatkan bahwa temperatur kabin dapat mencapai -40oC setelah 120 menit mesin pendingin dioperasikan. Selama beroperasi, tekanan kerja, yaitu tekanan suction dan discharge kompresor, mini freezer hampir sama dengan hasil perhitungan. Ini artinya metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini dengan desain dan pengembangan (R&D). Namun untuk mendapatkan freezing time yang lebih singkat masih diperlukan optimasi panjang pipa evaporator masih diperlukan, supaya temperatur kabin -40oC dapat dicapai lebih singkat. Perbedaan hasil perancangan, yaitu: tekanan suction, tekanan discharge dan temperatur discharge, dengan hasil pengujian tidak lebih dari 10%.

Abstract

Latar belakang: Polusi udara PM2.5 dan PM10 adalah salah satu polutan utama di kota-kota besar, termasuk di Kota Bandung. Salah satu dampak negatif dari polusi PM2.5 dan PM10 adalah meningkatnya kasus infeksi saluran pernafasan akut (ISPA) di wilayah terdampak. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji kaitan antara konsentrasi PM2.5 dan PM10 di kota Bandung dengan jumlah kasus ISPA yang tercatat di puskesmas yang berdekatan dengan lokasi pengujian.Metode: Pengukuran PM2.5 dan PM10 dilakukan di tiga lokasi, dua di pusat kota, yaitu di Monumen 0 km dan Alun-alun, serta satu di Bandung utara (Di depan Terminal Dago). Pengambilan data dilakukan selama tujuh hari dari jam 08.00 hingga 16.00.Hasil: Hasil pengukuran menunjukkan bahwa urutan konsentrasi PM2.5 dan PM10 dari yang tertinggi ke terendah adalah di Alun-alun, Monumen 0 km dan Terminal Dago. Secara umum konsentrasi PM2.5 dan PM10 di tiga lokasi masih di bawah baku mutu bila mengacu PPRI Nomor 22 tahun 2021, kecuali beberapa hari di Alun-alun. Namun bila mengacu pada standar dari WHO, konsentrasi PM2.5 di semua lokasi telah melebihi baku mutu, sedangkan untuk PM10, ada hari-hari tertentu yang di atas baku mutu. Ini artinya bila mengacu pada standard WHO, Kota Bandung darurat PM2.5, karena di semua lokasi pengukuran menunjukkan konsentrasi PM2.5 telah di atas baku mutu dari WHO.Simpulan: Berdasarkan data kasus ISPA dari puskesmas di wilayah pengukuran menunjukkan terjadi kebalikan, dimana jumlah kasus ISPA paling banyak terjadi di daerah Dago meskipun konsentrasi PM2.5 dan PM10-nya yang paling rendah. Kasus ISPA di pusat kota tidak sebanyak di puskesmas Dago. Diduga hal ini disebabkan masyarakat yang tinggal di pusat kota tidak banyak yang berobat di Puskemas, sedangkan masyarakat yang tinggal di daerah Dago lebih banyak yang berobat ke Puskesmas di wilayahnya. ABSTRACTTitle: Evaluation of PM2.5 and PM10 Air Pollution in Bandung City and its Relation to Acute Respiratory InfectionBackground:PM2.5 and PM10 are two main pollutants in big cities like Bandung. The negative effects of the pollution caused by PM2.5 and PM10 has been a rise in the frequency of acute respiratory infections (ARI). Therefore, this study aims to assess the correlation between PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations in Bandung city and the number of ARI cases recorded at the Puskesmas adjacent to the test site.Methods: PM10 measurements were made in three places: one in northern Bandung (in front of Dago Terminal), two in the city center (at the 0 km Monument and Alun-alun). Data were collected for seven days, 08.00 to 16.00.Results: The results show that the order of PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations from highest to lowest is in Alun-alun, 0 km Monument and Dago Terminal. Referring to PPRI number 22 of 2021, PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations at all three locations remain under the standard, except for a few days in Alun-alun. However, compared to WHO guidelines, PM2.5 concentrations are always greater than the standard, but for PM10, only few days may higher than the standard. Having above average PM2.5 concentrations at each measurement, Bandung is considered in emergency state according to WHO guidelines.Conclusion: Based on measurement data on ARI cases from Puskesmas (Public Health Center), the opposite occurred, the highest number of ARI cases occurred in the Dago area even though the PM2.5 and PM10 concentrations were the lowest. There are not as many ARI cases in the city center. It is suspected that many people who live in the city canter didn’t seek treatment at the Puskemas, while more people who live in the Dago area seek treatment at the Puskesmas.

Abstract

This study examines the total concentration of particulate matter (PM) in Banjaran, an industrial sub-district located in the south of Bandung. Sampling was conducted using the gravimetric method with a mini particle counter measuring instrument, known as CEM DT-96. Sampling was carried out at a house and a school in 24-hours and five days of working hours. The results show that concentration of PM either during indoor or outdoor condition can be affected by activity, air temperature, air relative humidity, air ventilation area, and particulate deposition rate. In addition, air quality for industrial area was categorized as unhealthy. It is due to PM concentrations exceeding air pollution quality standards as highlighted by Environmental Protection Agency.

Abstract

Solar radiation enters the building through the glass by both radiation and conduction. The heat passing through the glass is one of the largest cooling loads. Therefore, modifying the glass type, will potentially reduce the cooling load significantly. This numerical study uses Cooling Load Temperature Difference (CLTD) method to calculate the change in cooling load in a five-story hospital. The Glass material was changed from clear glass to coated glass. Based on the calculation of cooling load per hour, from 07.00 to 19.00, it is obtained that the peak load occurs at 17.00, both when using clear glass clear and coated glass. The replacement of clear glass with coated glass results in a 70.0% decrease in radiation cooling load, from 104.59 kW to 31.38 kW. In addition, replacing this type of glass will reduce the total cooling load by 17.0%, from 418.80 kW to 347.57 kW. The decrease in total cooling load will lead to a decrease in the operational cost of the air conditioning system. If it is assumed that the AC system operates at 75% peak load for 16 hours per day, then replacing the glass will reduce electricity costs by approximately Rp. 43.6 million/month.

Abstract

Separating rice and bran, moving rice to storage, and other processes related to moving grain or rice. In the modern rice milling industry, the process of transferring grain material already uses a pneumatic conveying system; a vacuum blower system for transferring grain is needed when milling grain to become rice. The research method used to obtain the shape of a vacuum blower with strong inlet suction power and outlet thrust is carried out by Computational Fluid Dynamics simulation and testing several types and variations in the number of blades. Simulation of forward curved blade type impellers, backward curved blade, and straight radial blade with variations in the number of 8, 10, and 12 blades. From the impeller simulation, it was obtained that the straight radial blade with 8 blades was the best. The best impeller types were made using the manual method. Measurement results were on the straight radial blade type impeller with 8 blades, with a motor speed of 1,000 rpm; the results of measuring air speed at the inlet were 34.95 m/s and at the outlet 23.08 m/s. In addition, the difference in the results between in simulation and the experiment is due to the fabrication process and air leaks.

Abstract

A showcase is a type of refrigerator widely found in small shops and supermarkets, and it maintains the freshness of vegetables, fruits, meat, and drinks. Because showcases are widely used, the potential for working as a technician or entrepreneur in showcase service is promising. This training aims to improve the competence of instructors at BLK Karawang in showcase maintenance and repair. Increased instructor competence impacts the quality of job seekers educated at BLK. The training was carried out in 3 working days, divided into two sessions: theory and practical. The practical material taught participants the proper refrigerant charging, troubleshooting, and repairs on showcases that experienced problems. After the training, the instructors will be evaluated on their ability to deliver the materials to job seekers under the supervision of lecturers from the Department of Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineering, Politeknik Negeri Bandung. Based on the evaluation, the instructors have correctly and adequately provided training materials on showcase maintenance and repair to job seekers.
