Abstract

Constructive Back Propagation Neural Network (CBPNN) is a kind of back propagation neural network trained with constructive algorithm. Training of CBPNN is mainly conducted by developing the network’s architecture which commonly done by adding a number of new neuron units on learning process. Training of the network usually implements fixed method to develop its structure gradually by adding new units constantly. Although this method is simple and able to create an adaptive network for data pattern complexity, but it is wasteful and inefficient for computing. New unit addition affects directly to the computational load of training, speed of convergence, and structure of the final neural network. While increases training load significantly, excessive addition of units also tends to generate a large size of final network. Moreover, addition pattern with small unit number tends to drop off the adaptability of the network and extends time of training. Therefore, there is important to design an adaptive structure development pattern for CBPNN in order to minimize computing load of training. This study proposes Fuzzy Logic (FL) algorithm to manage and develop structure of CBPNN. FL method was implemented on two models of CBPNN, i.e. designed with one and two hidden layers, used to recognize aroma patterns on an electronic nose system. The results showed that this method is effective to be applied due to its capability to minimize time of training, to reduce load of computational learning, and generate small size of network.

Abstract

Malaria is a communicable disease that poses a serious problem in Papua New Guinea, with the country recording the highest incidence of malaria in the Asia-Pacific region each year. However, research on the risk factors for malaria in Papua New Guinea is still minimal, especially among pregnant women. This study aims to investigate the correlation between malaria incidence in pregnant women in Papua New Guinea. This study is an observational study with a cross-sectional approach conducted on 200 pregnant women from January to March 2024 in Abou District, Papua New Guinea. Data collection used questionnaires and Rapid Diagnostic Tests (RDT) to diagnose malaria infection in pregnant women. The independent variables in this study are healthcare-seeking behavior, prevention of malaria, knowledge of malaria, maternal age, marital status, occupation, education level, and residential location. The dependent variable in this study is the incidence of malaria in pregnant women. In this study, the data analysis used included univariate analysis, bivariate analysis with chi-square, and multivariate analysis with logistic regression. The results showed that the risk factors for malaria incidence in pregnant women in Papua New Guinea are malaria prevention (p-value 0.014; OR= 4.426) and healthcare-seeking behavior (p-value 0.033; OR= 4.033), meaning that pregnant women with poor malaria prevention behavior and poor healthcare-seeking behavior are four times more likely to suffer from malaria. It is hoped that pregnant women will increase their awareness of malaria prevention during pregnancy and make full use of healthcare facilities during pregnancy.

Abstract

Liquid fertilizer applicator based on Variable Rate Application (VRA) is a technology that is used to fertilize in a controlled and precise manner. This study aims to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of the fertilization process of chili plants. The development carried out is esp32 cam which serves to detect chili plants that lack elements. The method used is input of the nutritional needs of chili plants, spray doses of each plant, and a microcontroller to control applicator components such as sprayer pumps, selenoid valve, and esp32 cam. In this liquid fertilizer applicator there are 2 pipes, each pipe has 4 nozzles. The results of laboratory tests show that the discharge of liquid fertilizer sprayed follows the input results of the nutritional needs of chili plants. The discharge released on the PWM sprayer motor varies from 40 to 100% resulting in very different discharge variations in each PWM spray. The efficiency of this VRA-based liquid fertilizer applicator reaches 87% or an increase of about 14.7% from the applicator before development. Regression analysis of dimmer level to spraying discharge showed a function y = 6.3016x + 18.937 with an R 2 of 0.9921. While the regression analysis of the dimmer level of the applicator speed obtained the function y = 94.075x + 20.203 with an R2 of 0.9936. Keywords: Chili plants, Liquid, Fertilizer, Applicator, VRA.
