Abstract

This study explores the role of social capital in enhancing disaster resilience, comparing urban and rural areas to identify key differences and similarities. Social capital, encompassing networks, norms, and trust that facilitate coordination and cooperation, is crucial for communities facing disasters. Using a comparative study approach, we conducted surveys and interviews in selected urban and rural areas to gather data on social capital dimensions and their impact on disaster resilience. Our findings reveal that while both urban and rural communities benefit from social capital, the mechanisms and outcomes differ significantly. In urban areas, formal networks and institutional support play a more significant role, whereas in rural areas, informal networks and community cohesion are more influential. These differences highlight the need for tailored disaster resilience strategies that leverage the unique strengths of each context. The study contributes to the literature by providing empirical evidence on how social capital functions in diverse settings and offers policy recommendations to enhance disaster resilience through community engagement and capacity building.

Abstract

The global expansion of Sharia businesses requires robust cross-cultural communication to address economic and ethical challenges effectively. This study explores the intersection of cross-cultural communication and Sharia economic principles, emphasizing their significance in fostering sustainable growth in global markets. By conducting an extensive literature review, the study identifies common barriers such as language differences, cultural misinterpretations, and divergent ethical frameworks in the dissemination of Sharia-compliant businesses. It highlights strategies for overcoming these challenges, including the adoption of culturally sensitive communication models and the alignment of business practices with Sharia principles. The findings reveal that effective cross-cultural communication not only mitigates potential conflicts but also enhances the acceptance and competitiveness of Sharia businesses globally. This research contributes to a deeper understanding of the role of communication in bridging cultural divides, thereby promoting the ethical and economic values of Sharia businesses. The study underscores the need for stakeholders to integrate intercultural training and digital communication tools into their operations to facilitate global outreach. It also provides practical insights for policymakers and business leaders on fostering collaboration across cultural boundaries. These findings advance both theoretical and practical knowledge, positioning cross-cultural communication as a critical enabler for the global success of Sharia businesses.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Ramadan in strengthening social cohesion through the lens of local wisdom within multicultural societies using a systematic literature review approach. By analyzing existing literature sourced primarily from reputable international databases, including Scopus and Web of Science, this research identifies significant themes concerning the relationship between Ramadan practices and social harmony. The findings indicate that Ramadan significantly contributes to enhancing social integration and mutual understanding among diverse cultural and religious groups. Local wisdom embedded within Ramadan traditions, such as communal iftars, charity distributions, and interfaith dialogues, facilitates meaningful interactions and reinforces collective solidarity. Moreover, the literature highlights variations in how different multicultural communities interpret and enact local wisdom, underscoring both unique adaptations and commonalities that strengthen social ties. The review also reveals challenges, including societal tensions and differing religious interpretations, which sometimes complicate the cohesion process. However, Ramadan's overarching emphasis on compassion, generosity, and inclusivity remains a powerful catalyst for social bonding. Policymakers and community leaders can utilize these insights to formulate strategies aimed at promoting harmonious coexistence in increasingly diverse societies. Despite extensive discussions, this literature-based analysis recognizes the limitations inherent in the secondary nature of the data, suggesting the need for empirical studies to deepen understanding further. Ultimately, this review contributes to existing scholarship by illuminating how culturally contextualized Ramadan observances can effectively foster sustainable social cohesion in multicultural contexts.

Abstract

This literature review explores the relationship between Ramadan observance and psychosocial well-being, with a particular emphasis on its implications for mental health policy within educational environments. Drawing upon a systematic evaluation of existing scholarly literature, this study identifies key psychosocial dimensions positively influenced by Ramadan, including enhanced self-regulation, resilience, and social connectedness among students. The evidence indicates that Ramadan fasting and associated spiritual practices can significantly mitigate stress, anxiety, and depressive symptoms, thereby contributing to improved overall mental health outcomes. However, the review also highlights variations in psychosocial impacts based on cultural contexts, institutional support systems, and individual differences in religious commitment. Importantly, educational institutions often lack clear policies to support students effectively during Ramadan, potentially undermining the observed psychosocial benefits. This review underscores the necessity for culturally sensitive mental health policies that accommodate Ramadan-related practices, facilitating supportive environments for students observing the fasting month. Effective implementation of such policies would require collaborative efforts among educational policymakers, mental health professionals, and community leaders. Limitations inherent in the reviewed studies, such as methodological heterogeneity and context-specific outcomes, are also acknowledged, reinforcing the need for further rigorous research. Consequently, this article provides foundational insights for educational policymakers aiming to optimize psychosocial well-being through evidence-based interventions aligned with Ramadan practices.

Abstract

This article examines Ramadan as an essential momentum for character development through a values education approach within the Islamic school curriculum using a systematic literature review. Character development has become increasingly vital, highlighting the importance of embedding moral values and ethical awareness among students. Ramadan presents a unique educational context due to its emphasis on spiritual growth, moral reflection, and behavioral discipline central to Islamic teachings. The systematic review analyzes existing literature sourced from reputable academic databases, focusing explicitly on values-based educational practices conducted during Ramadan in Islamic educational institutions. The findings indicate that Ramadan significantly facilitates the internalization of essential values such as empathy, patience, gratitude, discipline, spirituality, and social responsibility among students. The identified instructional strategies include reflective classroom dialogues, experiential learning activities, and structured community engagement programs integrated into Ramadan-specific curricula. The reviewed literature demonstrates measurable positive impacts on student behaviors, ethical reasoning, interpersonal relationships, and overall character maturity following participation in these curricular practices. Challenges identified in the literature relate mainly to sustaining and consistently applying values education beyond the Ramadan period. This article provides insights and practical implications for educators and policymakers to strengthen character education initiatives within Islamic schooling contexts. Further research is recommended to evaluate the long-term effectiveness of Ramadan-based values education programs and their potential application in broader educational settings.
