Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to analyze the relationship between nutritional knowledge and attitudes toward food abstinence among postpartum mothers. Methods: This study employed a quantitative research design with a cross-sectional approach. Postpartum mothers in the working area of the UPTD Sadananya Community Health Center were selected using purposive sampling techniques. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire distributed through Google Forms to assess respondents’ nutritional knowledge and attitudes toward food restrictions. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test with a specified significance level. Results: The results showed that the majority of respondents had good nutritional knowledge and a positive attitude toward consuming nutritious foods. Statistical analysis indicated a significant relationship between nutritional knowledge and attitudes toward food abstinence. Respondents with higher levels of knowledge tended to demonstrate more rational behavior in food selection during the postpartum period. Conclusions: There is a significant relationship between nutritional knowledge and attitudes toward food abstinence among postpartum mothers. Therefore, continuous health education by healthcare professionals is essential to improve mothers’ understanding of balanced nutrition, support postpartum recovery, and promote the health of both mother and baby.

Abstract

Introduction: Circumcision is one of the health interventions that provides medical, hygienic, and psychosocial benefits for children. However, not all families have adequate access to safe and affordable circumcision services. Community service activities conducted by higher education institutions represent a strategic effort to improve public health while implementing the Tri Dharma of Higher Education. Objective: This community service aimed to provide safe, free circumcision services for children while enhancing community access to quality healthcare through collaboration between lecturers and students of STIKes Muhammadiyah Ciamis. Method: This activity employed a community service approach involving the stages of planning, participant registration, health screening, circumcision procedures, health education, and post-circumcision follow-up. The program was implemented through collaboration between lecturers, nursing students, healthcare professionals, and local stakeholders. A total of 49 children from several villages and sub-districts in Ciamis Regency participated in the mass circumcision program. Result: The community service program was successfully implemented with all registered participants receiving circumcision services according to standard medical procedures. Participants originated from multiple areas in Ciamis Regency, indicating broad community participation and positive acceptance of the program. In addition to circumcision services, parents received education regarding wound care, infection prevention, nutrition, and post-circumcision activity restrictions. The collaboration between lecturers and students also provided valuable experiential learning in community nursing practice, communication, teamwork, and professional service delivery. Conclusion: he mass circumcision program effectively increased community access to safe circumcision services and demonstrated the important role of higher education institutions in improving community health. Collaboration between lecturers, students, healthcare workers, and local stakeholders represents an effective model for sustainable community service programs.

Abstract

Introduction: Pregnant women in the third trimester often experience back pain due to physiological changes, increased body weight, and a shift in the center of gravity. This discomfort can interfere with daily activities and maternal well-being. Pain management can be addressed through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches. Warm compresses are a simple, safe, and effective non-pharmacological method to relieve pain during pregnancy. Objective: This study aimed to determine the effect of warm compress application on back pain intensity in a third-trimester pregnant woman. Method: This study used a descriptive case study design with a nursing care process approach. The subject in this study was one third-trimester pregnant woman who experienced back pain. The intervention given was in the form of giving warm compresses to the lower back twice a day for four consecutive days. Measurement of pain intensity was carried out using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data collection was carried out through interviews, observations, physical examinations, and documentation of the development of client nursing care systematically according to the stages of the nursing process. Results: After four days of intervention, the patient's back pain intensity decreased from a score of 6 (moderate pain) to 2 (mild pain). The patient reported improved comfort, reduced physical limitations, and no adverse effects from the intervention. Conclusion: Warm compress therapy is proven to be effective in reducing back pain intensity in third-trimester pregnant women. It can be recommended as an alternative non-pharmacological pain management strategy in maternity nursing care practices.
