Abstract

Krisis lingkungan yang semakin meningkat akibat eksploitasi sumber daya alam dan degradasi ekosistem Meningkatnya krisis lingkungan akibat eksploitasi sumber daya alam dan degradasi ekosistem menuntut kebijakan pengelolaan lingkungan yang berkelanjutan dan berbasis bukti ilmiah. Pemerintah Indonesia mewajibkan setiap provinsi menyusun Rencana Perlindungan dan Pengelolaan Lingkungan Hidup (RPPLH) sebagaimana diamanatkan dalam Undang-Undang Nomor 32 Tahun 2009. Namun, implementasi RPPLH di tingkat daerah menunjukkan capaian yang beragam. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi efektivitas penerapan RPPLH di tingkat provinsi serta menilai integrasinya dalam sistem perencanaan pembangunan daerah. Metode yang digunakan adalah kualitatif deskriptif evaluatif dengan pendekatan evaluasi ex-ante, ongoing, dan ex-post melalui analisis input, process, output, dan outcome. Data dikumpulkan melalui wawancara mendalam, studi dokumentasi, dan observasi, dengan validitas data diperkuat melalui triangulasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa meskipun sebagian besar provinsi telah menyusun RPPLH, efektivitas implementasinya masih terbatas akibat keterbatasan sumber daya, lemahnya koordinasi antarinstansi, dan rendahnya partisipasi publik. Beberapa provinsi telah mampu mengintegrasikan RPPLH dengan dokumen perencanaan daerah, sementara daerah lain masih menghadapi kendala administratif dan teknis. Penelitian ini menyimpulkan bahwa keberhasilan RPPLH bergantung pada kapasitas kelembagaan, dukungan regulasi, dan ketersediaan data lingkungan yang akurat, sehingga diperlukan penguatan kapasitas daerah dan mekanisme evaluasi berkelanjutan.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the threat of edge effects on endemic animal populations due to the presence of causeways in the TNGHS corridor habitat. Indicators of the occurrence of edge effects are characterized by the further distance of wildlife populations from sources of disturbance such as noise, light, and frequency of human activity mechanisms. Belt transect research method for population study and distribution of Javan Gibbon and Surili. Intensive Point Account (IPA) to measure the diversity index of bird species and Javan eagles. Encounter Rate is used for animal distribution studies. Results On the observation transect made along 3 km, the population density of Javan Gibbons was obtained 0.114 ind/ha, Surili 0.024 indv/ha, and Monkey 0.028 indv/ha. Bird species diversity index in 3 habitat patches each Purasari H'= 2.78 with 38 species; Garehong with 27 species, and Corridor H'= 3,087 with 27 species. The similarity of species is that there are only 7 species of birds found in the 3 habitats of the patch. As a result of primate population density and burng species similarity, it can be concluded that the cross-corridor access road area has experienced an edge effect and tends to be a bottle-neck area for the distribution of animals, especially primates.

Abstract

Earth is the only known planet that supports life, including humanity. Despite seeing ourselves as the most intelligent species in our world, human activities are accelerating the Earth toward irreversible environmental degradation. The consumption of fossil fuels to satisfy our growing demands has led to unprecedented greenhouse gas emissions, pushing the planet toward a potential sixth mass extinction. The rapid rise in carbon dioxide and global temperatures threatens the survival of numerous species, including humanity. Without urgent, collective action to reduce emissions and implement adaptation and mitigation strategies, Earth's ecosystems face catastrophic disruption. Every year on April 22, over one billion people celebrate Earth Day to raise awareness and renew our commitment to protecting our planet. In 2025, under the theme "Our Power, Our Planet," we are reminded of our collective ability to drive transformative change. The coming decades will test human wisdom and willpower. Immediate and sustained action is essential to transition to clean energy, protect biodiversity, and ensure a sustainable future for all.

Abstract

Jalawure (Tacca leontopetaloides Kuntz) is a starch-rich tuberous plant endemic to coastal ecosystems of West Java. This study investigated its growth potential as an alternative food source, analyzing plant height and spatial distribution relative to elevation in Garut Regency’s southern coast. Nine observation plots (10 m × 25 m) were established perpendicular to the shoreline across three districts. For each plot, plant height, elevation, distance to shoreline, soil properties, and plant density were measured. Statistical analysis (Kruskal–Wallis, Duncan test, and linear regression) revealed significant variation in plant height across habitats (p = 0.017), with optimal growth at moderate elevations (15–20 m asl) and semi-shaded plots. Population densities varied from 440 to 1,400 individuals per hectare, indicating substantial carbohydrate reserves. Elevation gradient accounted for ~30% of height variation. These findings highlight jalawure’s potential role in community food resilience and climate adaptation, particularly in drought-prone coastal zones. Promoting jalawure cultivation under agroforestry or coastal restoration frameworks may strengthen local food security.

Abstract

The issue of waste management has emerged as a critical environmental and social challenge globally. Every day, billions of tons of waste are generated through human activities, much of which is inadequately managed. A 2018 report from the World Bank highlighted that over 2 billion tons of solid waste are produced annually, a figure projected to rise to 3.4 billion tons by 2050 without substantial changes in management practices. Waste accumulation is more than a matter of disposal; it triggers complex issues, including soil, water, and air pollution, as well as climate change, driven by greenhouse gas emissions like methane from landfills. In Indonesia, a populous nation with high consumption rates, waste management poses significant challenges. According to the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), national waste generation in 2023 reached approximately 19 million tons annually, with only 60–70% collected and less than 10% recycled. Consequently, the majority of waste ends up in landfills—many of which still operate under open dumping systems that not only pollute the environment but also threaten the health of nearby communities. The escalating problem of plastic waste is particularly alarming. A research indicates that Indonesia is the second-largest contributor to marine plastic waste globally, following China. The plastic waste entering the ocean endangers marine ecosystems and can infiltrate the human food chain as microplastics. This situation underscores the need to view waste management not only as a technical challenge but as an interconnected social, economic, and governance issue.

Abstract

Slow Food is increasingly recognized as essential for human health and quality of life because it promotes the consumption of fresh, natural, organic, and locally produced foods that are free from synthetic inputs and richer in nutritional value. Beyond health benefits, the Slow Food movement also contributes to environmental conservation by reducing carbon emissions, supporting sustainable agriculture, and preserving local food systems. This study employed a qualitative integrative review methodology to examine how Slow Food knowledge and traditional culinary practices can be integrated into educational curricula. The research framework consisted of three main phases: systematic literature selection, thematic analysis, and synthesis of findings. This study is distinctive in its integrative approach, which connects Slow Food principles, traditional food practices, and curriculum development. The findings highlight the role of both formal and informal education as transformative platforms for promoting sustainable agricultural systems, preserving cultural heritage, and fostering social and environmental responsibility. Education supports the production of slow, clean, and organic food by increasing awareness and encouraging sustainable food growing practices. Through education, students gain knowledge and practical skills to cultivate vegetables and develop school or community gardens. Educational institutions act as key agents in knowledge development, advocacy, research, and the promotion of sustainable Slow Food practices. They contribute through curriculum integration, schoolyard gardening initiatives, community engagement, and policy advocacy. Higher education institutions, particularly universities, can embed Slow Food education into multidisciplinary curricula, equipping students to address contemporary food system challenges, promote global citizenship, and participate in slow, clean, and fair food.
