Abstract

The learning assessment process is still an interesting discussion theme, especially with the presence of the term AfL (Assessment for Learning) which is a development of the AoL (Assessment of Learning) concept. The purpose of this article is to describe the implementation of AfL in two different regions, Hong Kong and New Zealand with the indication that there are several studies showing that AfL is running well in these two regions. The results of the description are then linked to the context of the assessment of Islamic Religious Education learning in Indonesia today. This research is a literature study with a qualitative model that begins with the search for sources (heuristics), assessment (criticism) and construction. As a result, Hong Kong presents an assessment system in the form of BCA (Basic Competency Assessment) and SBA (School-Based Assessment); while New Zealand implemented several policies to strengthen the implementation of this AfL. When referring to the implementation of AfL in the two regions, Indonesian Islamic Education requires teachers who are prepared and competent in carrying out the assessment. The Islamic Religious Education assessment system is very detailed and clear, but teachers are still not able to apply it.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the implementation of the assessment of Al-Qur'an learning by using the poetry method. The approach used in this research is a qualitative approach using the descriptive-analytical method. The results of this study reveal that the assessments used in tahfidz Qur’an learning with the poetry method are the mid-semester assessment (PTS) and the end-semester assessment (PAS). The form of assessment used is an oral test in the form of a sima’ reading test, verse-connecting test, and a comprehensive test. This assessment is carried out 4 times a year. Students are declared passed when they get a minimum score of B with a minimum score of 81 and vice versa are declared to repeat when they get a C score with a score of 70. This assessment is not only on memorizing the Qur'an but memorizing poems is also assessed by the examiner. The findings in this study indicate that students have quite good abilities when tested using the sima' reading test. Students are lower in their abilities if they are tested by verse-connecting questions. Then students have a very low ability if tested using a comprehensive test.

Abstract

This study analyzes the Mappano Bine tradition in Bone Regency as a communicative practice that integrates local wisdom, Islamic values, and ecological ethics. Drawing on a qualitative design with interviews, non-participant observation, and document analysis, the research examines how environmental communication is enacted through ritual performances, symbolic expressions, and collective practices. The findings indicate that Mappano Bine extends beyond agricultural celebration; it serves as a communicative act that weaves Islamic spirituality prayer, gratitude, and communal responsibility into indigenous ritual forms. These practices generate ecological consciousness and transmit environmental ethics across generations through oral narratives, ritual symbols, and communal participation. The study advances the field of environmental communication by framing Mappano Bine as a hybrid communicative model where religious and indigenous values converge to promote ecological harmony and cultural continuity. While challenges such as modernization and youth disengagement persist, the contribution lies in positioning ritual as an analytical lens for understanding the intersection of faith, culture, and ecological communication.

Abstract

This study investigates substantial shifts in the rational paradigm and political identities in the Kaliwungu Industrial Area. Complexity, characterized by shifting values and emerging global identities, has co-opted the mode of existence of communities in sophisticated industrial countries. The dilemma between preserving local customs and the demands of globalization presents a distinct challenge. This study takes a qualitative approach, collecting data through approaches such as in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and critical analysis. Data sources are purposefully chosen from various strata of industrial society in order to acquire a comprehensive understanding. The investigation validates intriguing facts about Kaliwungu society. Based on the diffusion perspective, the result shows thatthere is a trend toward higher spiritual ideals in deciding societal positions, including political decisions. This plainly rules out the possibility of an exponential link between hedonism and industrialization. Furthermore, population movement from different origins to a given location is difficult, necessitating social harmonization and integration processes. Similarly, spiritual ideals, mental patterns, and social attitudes interact and change as a logical result of everyday exposure to modern values.

Abstract

This study aims to measure the generic skills (GS) of Madrasah Aliyah (MA) students in Indonesia. Respondents who participated in this study were madrasah students scattered in East Java and Central Java as representatives of MAs in Indonesia. The method used in this research is a survey distributed via Google Form. Three dimensions are mentioned in the research instrument for measuring GS: religious moderation, critical and creative thinking skills, and interpersonal skills. Using SPPS version 16 software, a descriptive analysis was employed as the data analysis technique. The results of this study showed that the GS of students with religious moderation indicators obtained the highest average of 54.03% on the Likert scale 4. Critical and creative thinking skills indicators obtained the highest average results, 67.99%, on the Likert scale 4. The indicator of interpersonal skill obtained the highest average of 55.88% on the Likert 4 scale. Hence, it is expected of educational institutions to implement policies to enhance the GS of MA students, particularly in creating a more student-oriented learning model, also known as student-centered learning.

Abstract

This study investigates the compatibility between Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) and the traditional learning values embedded within Indonesian pesantren, particularly in the context of English language instruction. While CLT emphasizes communicative competence, learner autonomy, authentic interaction, and meaningful use of language, pesantren education is grounded in values such as discipline, obedience, communal learning, and character formation. These contrasting orientations raise questions about whether CLT can be effectively integrated into pesantren classrooms or whether fundamental pedagogical tensions may arise. Drawing on existing literature on CLT implementation in EFL contexts and studies on pesantren learning culture, this conceptual inquiry examines points of convergence and divergence between the two educational paradigms. Findings indicate several areas of compatibility: both CLT and pesantren prioritize collaborative learning, contextualized meaning-making, and the development of communicative ethics. pesantren traditions such as musya>warah (deliberation) and halaqah (discussion circles) naturally support interactive and cooperative learning, which align with core CLT principles. However, challenges emerge in relation to learner autonomy, teacher, student power relations, and the shift from teacher-centered instruction to student-centered practices. The study argues that with culturally responsive adaptation, such as integrating pesantren-based group practices into communicative activities and reframing autonomy within Islamic educational values, CLT can be harmonized with pesantren learning traditions. Ultimately, the study proposes a hybrid pedagogical model that maintains pesantren identity while enabling communicative English learning, offering implications for curriculum developers, English teachers, and Islamic educational institutions seeking to enhance communicative competence without compromising religious and cultural foundations.

Abstract

Issues of radicalism and intolerance are currently increasingly rampant in Indonesia, this is due to the condition of the nation with its own diversity, namely the diversity of tribes, cultures, regions, languages, and most importantly religion. Therefore, it is urgent to instill in students in the learning process about religious moderation materials to anticipate the emergence of radicalism and intolerance. The purpose of this study was to identify the content of Islamic religious education textbooks at the senior high school level in Indonesia about religious moderation and how the concept of religious moderation is contained in the textbook. The results of the study show that Islamic religious education textbooks at the senior high school level in Indonesia have included indicators of religious moderation with one theme, namely Morals. Based on quantity, the material on religious moderation in this Islamic religious education book is still small and still has great potential to be developed, but conceptually this book presents the instillation of a good mindset about morals or moral reasoning ability to deal with issues of religious moderation
