Abstract

Platelet-rich plasma (PRP) has been identified as a potential agent to enhance the tendon healing process and prevent complications such as adhesion and tendon displacement after surgery. Objective: To determined the difference in the degree of peritendinous adhesion after administration of platelet-rich plasma (PRP) on the healing of Achilles tendon rupture in Wistar rats. Methods: This study used a post-test only control group experimental design. Tendons in the control group were treated without PRP, while the treatment group received PRP before care. After one week, the degree of peritendinous adhesion was evaluated microscopically using the Tang scoring system. Results: The mean degree of adhesion in the control group was 3.38, and in the treatment group it was 3.83. The independent t-test yielded a non-significant value of 0.411 (p > 0.05). Conclusion: There was no significant difference in the degree of peritendinous adhesion in Achilles tendon rupture healing of Wistar rats between the group given PRP and the group not given PRP. Keywords: peritendinous adhesion, PRP, tendon rupture, Tang score

Abstract

Nasal polyps appear as a round, semi-transparent mass and typically develop in the middle meatus and paranasal sinuses. Histologically, nasal polyps can be divided into two subtypes, eosinophilic and neutrophilic polyps. The recurrence rate of nasal polyps is quite high, with 60-70% of patients experiencing recurrence after undergoing FESS treatment for about 18 months. The purpose of this study was to determine the clinical and histopathological characteristics of patients with nasal polyps at the THT-KL Polyclinic of Dr. M. Djamil Central Hospital in 2019-2021. This study used a descriptive design with total sampling method. The sample in this study consisted of 77 patients who met the inclusion criteria. The results of this study showed that the most frequent clinicopathological characteristics of nasal polyps in the patients were: middle-aged age group (37.66%), male gender (54.5%), sinusitis risk factor (89.61%), bilateral nature of polyps (57.14%), the most common stage was stage II (50.65%), clinical symptom of nasal congestion (98.7%), surgical management (88.31%), neutrophilic histopathological type (84.42%), with a recurrence rate of 19.48%. In conclusion, the most frequent age distribution of patients with nasal polyps was in the 41-60 age group, with the most common male gender, sinusitis risk factor, bilateral type of polyps, the most common stage was stage II, clinical symptom of nasal congestion, the most common management was surgical, histopathological type was neutrophilic, and is recurrent

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between BCG immunization status with mortality and severity of TB meningitis in children at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang. Method: This study used a cross-sectional design in children with TB meningitis and used the Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Chi-Square statistical tests. Sampling using total sampling technique with a total sample of 58 people. Data obtained from the medical records of RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2018 – 2021. Result: This study shows that most pediatric TB meningitis patients with the condition are women (53%), aged 0-4 years (48%), good nutritional status (40%), not in direct contact with TB patients (74%), received BCG immunization (55%), severe degree (59%), and alive (76%). There is a relationship between BCG immunization status and degree of severity (p=0.046) and mortality (p=0.047) of pediatric TB meningitis patients at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2018 – 2021. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between BCG immunization status and the degree of severity and mortality of TB meningitis in children at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang in 2018 – 2021.
