Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic disease that significantly impacts patients' mental health, particularly their anxiety levels. This study aims to investigate the relationship between anxiety and coping mechanisms among diabetes mellitus patients in Semarang. This study employed the DASS 42 questionnaire to assess anxiety levels and coping mechanisms in patients. The results showed a significant correlation between anxiety levels and coping mechanisms in diabetes mellitus patients. The study revealed that patients with higher anxiety levels tend to use less adaptive coping mechanisms, which can exacerbate their health conditions. This study concludes that effective anxiety management is crucial in enabling diabetes mellitus patients to employ more adaptive coping mechanisms. Therefore, healthcare providers should offer psychological support to help reduce anxiety levels among these patients, ultimately improving their overall health outcomes.

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional condition that causes feelings of discomfort, helplessness, and uncertainty, often without a clear reason. Among breast cancer (carcinoma mammae) patients, anxiety commonly arises due to treatment processes, physical changes, and uncertainty regarding recovery. Spirituality, which involves belief in God Almighty and connection with transcendental aspects, is believed to help individuals cope with uncertain and challenging situations, including serious illness. This study aimed to determine the relationship between spiritual level and anxiety level among breast cancer patients in Semarang. The research used a quantitative correlational design with a sample of 110 respondents selected through purposive sampling based on inclusion criteria. The instruments employed were the Depression Anxiety Stress Scale (DASS-42) to assess anxiety levels and the Daily Spiritual Experience Scale (DSES) to measure spirituality. Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test to examine the relationship between variables. The results showed a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between spirituality level and anxiety level in breast cancer patients. The findings suggest that higher levels of spirituality are associated with lower anxiety levels. Therefore, interventions that support and strengthen spiritual aspects may be effective in reducing anxiety among breast cancer patients. This study recommends that healthcare professionals incorporate spiritual approaches as part of holistic care to improve psychological well-being in patients undergoing cancer treatment.

Abstract

Surgical procedures, including laparoscopic surgery, may cause preoperative anxiety arising from fear of the surgery process, uncertain outcomes, and postoperative pain. This anxiety can affect anesthesia and recovery aspects. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman on anxiety in preoperative laparoscopy patients. This study employed a quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest control group. A total of 40 respondents were recruited using total sampling. Data were collected through questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test for within-group differences and the Mann-Whitney test for between-group differences. The majority of respondents in both intervention and control groups were late elderly, employed, male, and had no history of illness. Before therapy, anxiety levels in both groups were predominantly moderate. After therapy, most respondents in the intervention group experienced mild anxiety, whereas in the control group most remained in the moderate category. Statistical analysis showed a significant effect of Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman on reducing anxiety, both in the intervention group (Z = -5,477; p = 0.000) and the control group (Z = -2.000; p = 0.046). Overall, Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman was proven to be significantly effective in reducing respondents’ anxiety levels (Z = -4,534; p = 0.000). It is recommended that families play an active role in supporting anxiety reduction in patients undergoing surgery, for example, by suggesting or facilitating the patients to listen to Murottal recitation of Surah Ar-Rahman.

Abstract

Cancer is still one of the leading causes of death in Indonesia and poses a major challenge in the world of health. Cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy generally face various psychological problems, one of which is anxiety arising from side effects of therapy, uncertainty of treatment, and deterioration of physical condition. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between family support and anxiety levels in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The research design uses a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional method. The research sample amounted to 40 chemotherapy patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang who were selected using a total sampling technique. The research instruments were in the form of family support questionnaires and the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data analysis was carried out using the Marginal Homogeneity test. The results showed that most patients received family support in the moderate to high category (75%) and experienced mild to moderate levels of anxiety (70%). Based on statistical tests, a value of p = 0.001 was obtained, which showed a significant relationship between family support and anxiety levels in chemotherapy patients. The conclusion of this study confirms that good family support plays an important role in helping patients reduce anxiety during treatment. These findings indicate the importance of active family involvement in accompanying patients, both emotionally, informationally, and instrumentally. Therefore, educational programs involving families are highly recommended to improve the quality of care and support the psychological condition of cancer patients.

Abstract

Anxiety is an emotional response that is commonly experienced by patients before surgery, including in pre sectio caesarean patients. High levels of anxiety can affect the patient's physiological and psychological condition, so appropriate handling efforts are needed. Non-pharmacological interventions, such as prayer dhikr therapy, can be used as an alternative to help reduce anxiety because it provides relaxation, calmness, and increased spirituality. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of dhikr sholawat therapy on anxiety levels in pre sectio caesarean patients. The research design used a quasi-experiment with a pre-test and post-test control group approach. The research sample consisted of pre-sectio caesarea patients who met the inclusion criteria, then divided into two groups, namely the intervention group that was given prayer dhikr therapy and the control group that only received standard treatment. The instrument used to measure anxiety levels is the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS). Data analysis was carried out by statistical tests according to the distribution of data to find out the difference in results between the two groups. The results showed a significant decrease in anxiety levels in the intervention group compared to the control group (p < 0.05). These findings prove that prayer dhikr therapy is effective in reducing anxiety in pre-sectio caesarean patients. Thus, this therapy can be recommended as one of the non-pharmacological nursing interventions that support the improvement of service quality and patient comfort.

Abstract

ABSTRACT   Introduction: Pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients need to have strong effort, desire, and belief in themselves to complete anti-tuberculosis drug (ATD) therapy. A preliminary study conducted on 30 patients observed that there were 12 patients (40%) with a history of incomplete ATD therapy due to non-adherence. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-efficacy and medication adherence in pulmonary TB patients. Methods: This quantitative study used a correlational analysis method with a cross-sectional approach. The collected sample of 60 TB patients used a total sampling technique. Self-efficacy was measured using The General Self-Efficacy Scale (GSE) and adherence to taking ATD was measured using the Morisky Medication Adherence Scales-8 (MMAS-8). The analysis was performed using the Spearman Rank test. Results: A total of 40 patients (66.7%) had moderate level of self-efficacy, and 27 patients (45%) had high level of medication adherence. There was a significant relationship between self-efficacy and adherence to taking ATD with a significance value of <0.001 and a level of closeness of 0.695. Conclusion: The relationship between self-efficacy and adherence to taking ATD is a strong and unidirectional relationship. Families are expected to provide support to improve the self-efficacy of pulmonary TB patients, such as giving confidence to patients to be able to complete TB treatment. Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease marked by high blood glucose due to insulin dysfunction. Its prevalence is rising, with Indonesia ranking seventh globally. Unhealthy lifestyles and stress exacerbate the issue, highlighting the need for improved prevention and management strategies. This study examines how lifestyle and stress influence DM incidence in Indonesian patients, identifying risk factors to enhance healthcare strategies. A systematic review using PRISMA guidelines analyzed studies from various databases (2019-2024), selecting relevant articles based on inclusion criteria and extracting key research data. From 10 reviewed journals, 4 linked lifestyle to DM, 1 identified sedentary behavior as a prediabetes risk, and 5 highlighted stress as a major factor. Preventing and managing DM requires a healthy lifestyle, stress management, and healthcare interventions to enhance patient well-being while reducing economic and health burdens.

Abstract

Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition characterized by airway narrowing, inflammation, and excessive mucus production. Relapse refers to the recurrence of symptoms, which can be severe and disrupt daily activities, often necessitating additional care, either outpatient or inpatient, sometimes with a longer duration than previous episodes. The objective of this literature review is to examine the factors influencing asthma relapse. This study employed a literature review design. Articles were identified through online databases, specifically Google Scholar and PubMed, using keywords and Boolean operators such as AND, OR, NOT. The search terms included “Factors Associated with Asthma” AND “Relapse Asthma.” The literature search was conducted in November 2024, focusing on articles published between 2020 and November 2024. A total of 683 articles were retrieved from Google Scholar and PubMed. Based on the review of 10 selected studies, it was concluded that asthma triggers may result from biological, environmental, or chemical factors. Factors associated with asthma exacerbations include a history of smoking, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), obesity, nasal polyps, depression, and anxiety. Factors linked to severe asthma exacerbations include atopic conditions and passive smoking as primary indicators.
