Abstract

Peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.) are agricultural commodities with high nutritional value and potential productivity. Fertilization plays an important role in supporting plant growth and yield, both through organic and inorganic fertilizers. This study aims to determine the effect of the application of kasgot and TSP fertilizers on the growth and yield of peanuts in ultisol soil. The study used a factorial 4×4 Random Group Design (RAK), with four levels of kasgot fertilizer (0, 0.5, 1, and 1.5 kg/polybag) and four levels of TSP fertilizer (0, 7.8, 15, and 22.5 g/polybag), as well as three replicates. The results showed that kasgot treatment had a significant effect on the number of pods per plot, but not significantly on the height of the plant, the number of pods per sample, and the weight of the pods. Meanwhile, TSP fertilizer has a noticeable effect on plant height, but not significantly on other yield parameters. These findings demonstrate the importance of appropriate fertilization strategies to increase peanut productivity in ultisol soils.

Abstract

Endophytic microorganisms have become a central focus in numerous studies related to sustainable agriculture due to their dual potential as biological agents—functioning both as biocontrol and biofertilizers. The presence of endophytes within plant tissues has been shown to enhance vegetative growth, strengthen resistance against pathogenic attacks, and optimize nutrient uptake. This article presents a systematic review of recent studies from 2018 to 2024, addressing the classification, mechanisms of action, and potential applications of endophytic microorganisms in agriculture. Several bacterial genera, including Bacillus spp., Azospirillum spp., and Pseudomonas spp., along with non-pathogenic fungal groups such as Trichoderma spp. and Fusarium spp., have demonstrated effectiveness in nitrogen fixation, phosphate solubilization, phytohormone synthesis, and the production of antimicrobial compounds. Research findings indicate that the application of endophytic microorganisms as biological inputs holds great promise in supporting the development of environmentally friendly, sustainable, and high-yielding agricultural systems.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the effect of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) from lamtoro leaves and rice husk biochar on the growth of kale (Brassica oleraceae). The research was motivated by the low productivity of kale in Indonesia due to the lack of sustainable cultivation practices, thus requiring environmentally friendly fertilization alternatives. The experiment was carried out at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Medan Area, from August to September 2024, using a factorial randomized block design (RBD). The rice husk biochar factor consisted of 4 levels: P0 (without biochar), P1 (1.44 kg/plot), P2 (2.88 kg/plot), and P3 (4.32 kg/plot). The lamtoro leaf LOF factor also consisted of 4 levels: N0 (without LOF), N1 (100 ml/900 ml water), N2 (200 ml/800 ml water), and N3 (300 ml/700 ml water). Thus, 16 treatment combinations were obtained. Observed parameters included plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight per sample, fresh weight per plot, economic yield, and root weight. The results showed that rice husk biochar significantly affected plant height, number of leaves, fresh weight per sample, fresh weight per plot, and economic yield per sample plant, with the best treatment at a dose of 4.32 kg/plot (P3). Meanwhile, lamtoro leaf LOF significantly affected economic yield per plot, with the best treatment being N3 (300 ml/700 ml water). The combination of both treatments had no significant effect on all observed parameters.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the effect of goat manure and mycorrhiza on the growth and yield of melon plants (Cucumis melo L.). The research was conducted at the Experimental Field of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Medan Area, from February to May 2025, using a completely randomized design (CRD) with a factorial arrangement of two factors: goat manure dosage (0, 10, and 20 tons/ha) and mycorrhiza concentration (0, 5, and 10 g/plant), with three replications. The observed parameters included plant height, leaf area, number of fruits, fruit weight per plant, and sweetness level. The results showed that the combination of goat manure and mycorrhiza significantly affected the growth and yield of melon plants. The treatment combination of 20 tons/ha goat manure and 10 g/plant mycorrhiza produced the highest plant height, fruit weight, and sugar content. The integration of these two organic inputs improved nutrient uptake efficiency, enhanced soil structure, and increased fruit quality. This approach has the potential to serve as an environmentally friendly cultivation strategy for sustainably increasing melon productivity.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui faktor-faktor yang mempengaruhi media pemasaran sosial terhadap permintaan sayuran organik di Kota Medan dan untuk mengetahui permintaan sayuran organik di e-commerce Kota Medan. Penentuan daerah penelitian dilakukan secara purposive yaitu daerah penelitian dipili secara sengaja dengan pertimbangan daerah penelitian merupakan kota terbesar di Sumatera Utara. Penentuan sampel dilakukan dengan cara teknik Proportionate Stratified Random Sampling yaitu penentuan yang dilakukan dengan cara membagi populasi ke dalam sub populasi/strata secara proporsional dan dilakukan secara acak. jumlah sampel penelitian sebanyak 70 responden. Dalam penelitian ini, teknik analisis menggunakan regresi linier berganda dengan metode analisis deskriptif kuantitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh signifikan terhadap permintaan sayuran organik adalah kualitas konten, pemahaman konten dan kebugaran konten hanya saja faktor kebugaran berpengaruh negatif terhadap permintaan sayuran organik dan copywriting tidak berpengaruh signifikan terhadap permintaan sayuran organik. Permintaan sayuran organik yang paling banyak diminta konsumen saat berbelanja online adalah sawi, selada dan bayam.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the antibacterial ability of Cyperus rotundus extract in inhibiting the growth of Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi by measuring the diameter of the inhibition zone. This research method used a completely randomized design (CRD) and LSD test as a follow-up test with one factor, namely variations in the concentration of C. rotundus extract 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100%, distilled water as a negative control and the antibiotic chloramphenicol as a positive control. The results showed that the extract of C. rotundus could inhibit the growth of Escherichia coli with the largest inhibition zone diameter indicated by a concentration of 100% which was 2.33mm and the smallest inhibition zone diameter was found at a concentration of 20%, namely 1.00 mm. While in Salmonella typhi the largest inhibition zone was shown at a concentration of 100%, namely 3, 03mm and the smallest inhibition zone was indicated by a concentration of 20%, namely 1.07 mm. The results of the ANOVA and LSD tests with 95% confidence test showed that there was a difference in the average diameter of the inhibition zone in each treatment with variations in the concentration of C. rotundus extract with a concentration of 80% as the most effective.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the growth and yield responses of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) to the application of liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) derived from apu-apu (Pistia stratiotes L.) and various soil conditioners on Ultisol soil. The research was carried out from September to December 2020 at the experimental garden of the Faculty of Agriculture, Universitas Medan Area, located at an altitude of 22 masl with flat topography, Ultisol soil characteristics, and a soil pH of 4.94. The experimens used a randomized block design with two factors: (1) concensrations of apu-apu LOF (0%, 25%, 50%, and 75% per liter of water) and (2) types of soil conditioners (no conditioner, rice-husk biochar, Mucuna bracteata green manure, and human-hair organic amendmens at 50 g per polybag). Observed parameters included plans height, number of branches, flowering age, number of bunches per plans and per plot, number of pods per plans and per plot, seed weight per plans and per plot, and 100-seed dry weight. The results showed that the application of LOF from apu-apu significansly increased several agronomic and yield componenss, namely number of branches at 6 WAP, number of bunches per plans and per plot, number of pods per plans and per plot, seed weight per plans and per plot, and 100-seed dry weight. Meanwhile, the application of differens soil conditioners produced highly significans effects on plans height at 4–6 WAP, number of pods per plant and per plot, seed weight per plans and per plot, and 100-seed dry weight, although it did not significansly affect the number of branches or number of bunches. Overall, the combination of LOF and soil conditioners improved soybean growth and productivity in Ultisol soil conditions.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui serangga opt di pertanaman timun yang berefugia dan mengetahui kelimpahan serangga di tanaman timun berefugia. Metode yang digunakan pada penelitian ini adalah analisis deskriptif dengan menggunakan (Ordinal Sampling). Metode Ordinal Sampling merupakan metode acak beraturan, di mana cara pengamatan selama penelitian ini. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa ada 20 jenis hama yang berada pada tanaman timun berefugia dengan aplikasi kompos limbah jagung dan mikoriza. Serangga yang didapatkan adalah dari 3 jenis dari ordo Hymenoptera, 1 jenis ordo Orthoptera, 1 jenis ordo Spirobolida, 4 jenis ordo Hemiptera, dan 5 jenis ordo Diptera, 4 jenis ordo Lepidoptera, 1 jenis ordo Odonata, 1 jenis Polydesmida. Serangga yang didapatkan berasal dari perangkap Sweep Net, Pitpall Trap, dan Yellow Trap yang dipasang pada tanaman timun berufugia dengan aplikasi kompos limbah jagung dan mikoriza terdiri dari 20 jenis serangga. Serangga yang tertinggi ditemukan pada penelitian ini adalah Liriomyza yang merupakan tanaman timun dengan jumlah 143 ekor dan kelimpahan relatif tertinggi dengan nilai 15,53%. Indeks keragaman yang diperoleh adalah 2,777 yang di golongkan keanekaragaman sedang. Tingkat rata-rata intesitas serangan hama pada tanaman timun sebesar 41,87%
