Abstract

Qur’anic interpretation has often been overlooked as a crucial element in the development of Islamic law, despite its undeniable connection to the juridical aspects of fiqh and qanun. This article examines the role of Qur’anic interpretation in deriving Islamic legal rulings, the prerequisites for producing valid fiqh-based interpretations, and its primary sources. This qualitative research employs documentation as its data collection technique, supported by a linguistic approach. The findings reveal three main points. First, interpretation (tafsir) serves as an idhah (explainer), bayan (clarifier), and kasyf (explorer) of legal verses. Second, valid interpretations require linguistic foundations, intertextual correlations (munasabat), historical contexts such as asbab al-nuzul, relevance to contemporary issues (fiqh al-waqi’), and a balanced understanding of illat (causal reasoning) and hikmah (wisdom). Furthermore, interpretation must adhere to appropriate frameworks and methodologies. Third, the sources of Qur’anic interpretation, in order of priority, include tafsir bi al-Qur'an, al-sunnah, the companions (sahabah), and the People of the Book, collectively termed tafsir bi al-ma’tsur. Meanwhile, interpretive efforts based on reasoning (tafsir al-ra’y), when aligned with scientific principles, are also considered valid.

Abstract

Abstract

This study explores the integral role of hadith in enhancing Quranic literacy by demonstrating how prophetic traditions function as interpretive, applicative, and complementary elements to the Quranic text. Utilizing a qualitative-descriptive approach based on library research, the study examines primary Islamic sources—including classical tafsir and authenticated hadith collections—and contemporary scholarly literature. The findings show that hadith fulfills three critical functions: (1) clarifying Quranic verses through interpretive explanation (bayān al-tafsīr), (2) reinforcing Quranic commands via consistent prophetic practice (bayān al-taqrīr), and (3) providing legal elaboration on matters not explicitly addressed in the Quran (bayān al-tashrīʿ). Furthermore, hadith contextualizes revelation through the transmission of asbāb al-nuzūl and serves as the ethical embodiment of Quranic values in real life. The study concludes that integrating hadith into Quranic studies is not optional but imperative, as Quranic literacy without prophetic guidance risks remaining abstract, fragmented, and misapplied. This research affirms the necessity of hadith as a methodological, pedagogical, and spiritual anchor for meaningful engagement with the Quran.

Abstract

The widespread reality of poverty in Latin America prompted the emergence of liberation theology as a theological response to systemic injustice. Gustavo Gutierrez, one of the central figures in this movement, emphasized the strategic role of religion in dismantling oppressive structures and advocating for the liberation of the poor. This article aims to examine the role of religion in poverty alleviation through the lens of Gutierrez’s liberation theology. The study employs a qualitative approach using a descriptive-analytical method based on literature review. The findings reveal that Gutierrez distinguishes between two types of poverty: individual and structural. Individual poverty can be addressed through transformation of mindset, work ethic, and education. In contrast, structural poverty—which stems from systemic inequality and domination—requires radical social change grounded in principles of justice. Within this framework, religion is not merely a system of transcendental beliefs, but a liberative praxis capable of challenging injustice and advocating for the marginalized. This article affirms that liberation theology remains relevant not only as a matter of faith, but also as a critical framework for strengthening the role of religion in promoting social justice and siding with the oppressed.

Some ulemas responded the issue, again, many intepretations related to hadith regarding the issue. Among the problem must be focused is the portion of daughter related the amount of property, also some of them have no portion of that. The writer also try to analyze the interpretation of ulemas related to nass on this issue. Abstract

Abstract This study aims to examine women’s religious maturity in acts of worship through the analysis of two Prophetic hadiths concerning ritual purification (ghusl) and women’s access to mosques. The first hadith, narrated by ʿĀʾishah and recorded in Sunan Abī Dāwūd and Jāmiʿ al-Tirmidhī, addresses the obligation of ghusl based on the presence of physical evidence rather than subjective experience, and concludes with the statement: “Indeed, women are counterparts of men.” This formulation reflects not only normative equality but also recognition of women’s religious maturity, as they are treated as fully accountable individuals in fulfilling ritual obligations. The second hadith, reported by ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿUmar and preserved in Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim and Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī, affirms that women should not be prevented from attending mosques. This narration further strengthens the notion of women’s maturity in religious life by acknowledging their independent intention and participation in communal worship, while prohibiting unjust restrictions imposed upon them. Using a contextual (asbāb al-wurūd) and hermeneutical approach, this study finds that both hadiths articulate a coherent prophetic paradigm emphasizing clarity, inclusivity, and facilitation. The findings demonstrate that women are recognized as mature moral agents (mukallafāt), whose religious responsibilities are grounded in objective criteria and whose participation in both private and public worship is legitimate and protected. This study concludes that a contextual reading of hadith reveals an inclusive vision of Islamic teachings that affirms women’s maturity, dignity, and full religious agency in accordance with the higher objectives of the Sharīʿah.

Abstract

This study examines the perspectives of academics on the Gayo-language translation of the Qur’an as an effort to preserve local wisdom, while also identifying the challenges surrounding its production and use. The translation of the Qur’an into regional languages, particularly Gayo, holds a strategic position in safeguarding linguistic and cultural heritage; however, such efforts have not yet received sufficient academic attention. This research employs a qualitative approach, with data collected through document analysis and in-depth interviews. The data are analyzed using a sociolinguistic framework. The findings reveal three main points. First, academics view the Gayo Qur’anic translation as a form of tafsīr-based (interpretative) translation that reflects rational interpretation and is strongly influenced by Gayo cultural context, especially in diction and stylistic choices. Second, several challenges are identified, including achieving semantic accuracy in the target language, ensuring conformity with the intended meanings of Qur’anic verses, and addressing readers’ linguistic preferences and accessibility. Third, academics propose several solutions, such as maximizing reference to authoritative Qur’anic commentaries, considering the historical context of revelation (asbāb al-nuzūl), and adapting to ongoing developments in local linguistic usage.
