Abstract

This research is an analytical-descriptive study which focuses on the characteristics of students with difficulties in reading and the needs for differentiated learning instruction. The result of this study reveals that the prevalence of Students with Difficulties in Reading reaches 9,15% of the total population of students from each elementary school in Tomohon. The most excellent ability in reading comprehension which students have achieved is the level of literal reading. Students who have this level of reading skill can only be found in two elementary schools. Of 10 elementary schools, only students from 4 elementary schools whose reading ability lies on the lowest level, that is understanding vocabulary. In general, students face the difficulties in understanding inference and applying vocabularies. Learning process which has recently used is inadequate to accommodate students’ ability and solve their difficulties. The methods used in class include lectures and assignments. There are two methods, those are Rumpang Method and Glass analysis. The recent condition which students with difficulties in reading face requires immediate and meticulous problem solving. Therefore, teachers need to apply differentiated learning instruction in order to facilitate adaptive learning process suitable for the abilities of students with difficulties in reading.

Abstract

Tomohon City is one of the areas in North Sulawesi with the potential for frequent disasters, such as Lokon volcanic eruptions, landslides, floods, droughts, hurricanes, earthquakes, non-natural disasters (Covid-19). Of course, this situation threatens the lives of residents, including children with special needs (ABK) who attend inclusive schools in Tomohon City, have the same rights as other children to know about how to protect and save themselves when a disaster occurs. In addition, crew members are one of the most vulnerable groups when a disaster occurs. Some of them have mobility barriers to carry out protection and even self-rescue independently. Hence the need for a Model Guide for Disaster Risk Management in Inclusive Schools, to guide the school community in taking action in the event of a disaster. The research method used is Research and Development (R&D) research. The results showed that the model guide should contain information on how to rescue procedures/plans for ABK who need help from people around them, for example: teachers, friends, and school staff. The presence of a model guide is very much needed, because treating crew members when a disaster occurs must be a super priority to be saved.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of Assistive Technology for Online Learning for Students with Special Needs. The learning process at Manado State University since the Covid-19 pandemic has shifted to the network (Online). Distance learning that has taken place so far has not been without problems. For students with special needs, obstacles can be divided into general and special obstacles. Constraints generally can be in the form of network connections, internet costs and facilities to access information. Meanwhile, the special obstacle is Assistive Technology that suits their learning needs. The research method used is the development method. Where the research subject is Students with Special Needs at Unima Manado. From the results of the study it was found that the use of adaptive learning media with students with special needs was also still not optimal. Lecturers still think that if you have met in room zoom meetings, cisco webex, google meet, and other platforms for video conferencing, that is enough, even though students who are deaf have problems with audio if no one translates or helps with sign language, or students blind people who cannot see the visual display given by the lecturer. The process of using assistive technology in lectures has been carried out by lecturers, but with the characteristics of the learning abilities of students with special needs, it is necessary to provide assistance and guidance first, even after lectures, they still need to be continuously motivated.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the improvement in drawing ability using the syringe technique in class VIII students at SLB Dorkas Kakas. This research is experimental research with a Single Subject Research (SSR) experimental approach with an A1-B-A2 design. The research subjects were class III mildly deaf students aged 14 years, namely TR subjects. Data collection uses performance tests, observation and documentation during the implementation of baseline-1, intervention and baseline-2. The data obtained was analyzed through descriptive statistics and displayed in graphical form. The components analyzed are analysis within conditions and analysis between conditions. Data collection is through measuring drawing ability using performance tests. Based on the research results, during the implementation of the Spuit technique and during the intervention session progress was shown in the form of activeness, namely students actively responded during the lesson and were enthusiastic in participating in the learning process and were able to concentrate well if there were no internal or external distractions. In addition, there is an increase in the subject's ability to draw. The mean level of TR subjects increased from 7.18 at baseline-1 (A-1) to 11.1 at intervention (B) and 12.23 at baseline-2 (A-2). The results of this research indicate that through implementing the Spuit technique the drawing ability of class VIII mildly deaf students can be improved. Thus, it can be concluded that the Spuit Technique can improve drawing abilities.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to describe functional curriculum management in increasing the independence of Students with Special Needs at SLB-A Bartemeus Manado. Basically, every child needs to be taught independence. Teaching independence to students with special needs requires greater effort than to children without disabilities. It became interesting when initial observations were made at SLB-A Bartemeus Manado, a school that focuses on students with special needs, with visual impairments. The education provided is different from schools in general. This school uses a functional curriculum where the focus of this curriculum is increasing independence from life skills. This study uses a qualitative method. Data collection techniques are carried out by observation, interviews and documentation. Data analysis was carried out descriptively, qualitatively and interpretively. The research results show that through good planning, organization, implementation and evaluation, functional curriculum management at SLB A Bartemeus Manado can ensure that students with disabilities receive education that suits their needs and potential. The impact of implementing a functional curriculum is that students are able to experience independence in their daily activities, without being completely dependent on other people. The functional curriculum is able to provide activities that can train students to continue their activities without significant obstacles or having to wait for intervention from other people.
