Abstract

Antioxidants are substances that are useful for fighting free radicals. Plants can produce antioxidants to control the oxidative stress.Soursop plants are one of the plants that are known to contain antioxidant flavonoids. The purpose of this study was to determine the content of chemical compounds and antioxidant activity of ethyl acetate extract of soursop seeds. Identification of the content of chemical compounds was carried out qualitatively and quantitatively, while the antioxidant test was carried out using the capture method of 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) radicals with ascorbic acid as a comparison. The results showed that the soursop seeds ethyl acetate extract contained flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins, while the results of the quantitative total phenolic and total flavonoid tests were 28.21 ± 0.03 mg/g and 22.17 ± 0.05 mg/g respectively. DPPH results of soursop seeds ethyl acetate extract were 39.45%. These results show that the soursop ethyl acetate extract has a weak antioxidant activity compared to gallic acid. Keywords: soursop seed extract, chemical identification, antioxidants, ethyl acetate, DPPH

Abstract

Astragali Radix (Astragalus membranaceus (Fisch.) Bge. var. mongholicus (Bge.) Hsiao, also known as Huangqi) has been used to improve stamina and immunity for thousands of years. However, the bioactive components and their mechanisms are still unclear, limiting its clinical application. In this research, for the first time, network pharmacology was used to investigate the molecular mechanisms of Huangqi and its bioactive components that play an important role in improving the immune system. An amount of 1,430 immunomodulation-related target proteins was collected from the human genome database, with 171 target proteins from 20 bioactive components, and resulted in 60 intersection target proteins. Subsequently, the networks of common target and protein-protein interaction (PPI) were analyzed. The results showed that Huangqi influenced the modulations of lymphocytes (B cells and T cells), natural killer cells, macrophages, cytokines, immunoglobulins, and immune signal transduction. To a certain limit, this study revealed the potential bioactive components and pharmacological mechanisms of Huangqi in immunomodulation. It was able to direct novel drug development for treating immune system deficiency.

Abstract

In the therapeutic transaction, the relationship between patient and health service providers tends to bring conflict. Many factors caused that conflict, e.g., lack of patient health understanding, inequality of position between the patient and the provider before the law, and the imperfection of service quality handed over by the Provider. Viewed from a legal standpoint, therapeutic transactions have far-reaching consequences of a reciprocal nature between the patient and the doctor. The execution of informed consent is considered merely a formality to be signed. Juridically, the doctrine of informed consent contains the obligations imposed on doctors and the rights of patients to be fulfilled by doctors. Among the rights of the patient in the doctrine of informed consent are: the right to obtain information about his or her illness and the action to be taken against him; the right to obtain answers to questions he or she asks; the right to choose alternatives; and the right to refuse to initiate action. The right to safety, the right to be informed, the Right to Choice, and the right to Be Heard are also basic consumer rights that doctors must fulfill. These rights are guaranteed by the Consumer Protection Act. The process of informed consent is a manifestation of the preserved equality of relations between doctors and patients who are respectful and communicative; both have rights and duties to be respected, and together they determine the best course of action for patients in order to achieve the desired purpose of medical service. An informed consent is also deemed valid if: (a) the patient has been given explanation or information; (b) the patient or his authorized representative is competent to give a decision or consent; and (c) the consent must be given voluntarily. The process of obtaining informed consent is not running as it should.
