Abstract

Analysis of Drought-Prone Areas Based on Geographic Information Systems in Bondowoso Regency, East Java Province Hydrometeorological disasters that often hit Indonesia are floods in the rainy season and drought in the dry season. The plains in Bondowoso Regency consist of mountains and hills covering 44.4%, highlands covering 24.9%, and lowlands covering 30.7% of the total area. Such land conditions in Bondowoso Regency have a negative impact on another aspect, namely the availability of clean water for the surrounding community. This study aims to determine the distribution of drought-prone areas in the Bondowoso Regency, verify the results of the analysis with BPBD data from Bondowoso Regency, and directions for drought mitigation. The method used in this research is spatial analysis with a scoring system using Quantum GIS software. The results showed that in Bondowoso District, there are 5 classes of drought susceptibility. Those classes including a very low drought hazard class covering an area of ??0 ha, a low hazard class with an area of ??928 ha, the moderate hazard class with an area of ??73,378 ha, the high hazard class with an area of ??77,522 ha, and a very high with an area of ??4,172 ha.

Abstract

Estimation of Rice Production Using Sentinel-2a Image in Tabanan Regency Rice is strategical commodities because rice is a primary food in Indonesia. Thus, the estimation of rice production becomes crucial to do before the time of harvest to determine the availability of food. The objectives of this study were (1) developing of estimation equation model using Sentinel-2A imagery, (2) estimating rice field production using Sentinel-2A imagery, and (3) testing the accuracy of rice production estimation results using images Sentinel-2A. The research area is located in Tabanan Regency. Analysis of the research is done by the analysis of the single band and vegetation indices of Sentinel-2A satellite imagery. Estimation model of rice production developed by finding out the relationship between the satellite imagery data and the rice production data. Finally, accuracy test of the rice production estimation model is done using t test and regression analysis. The result of the study shows that the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) has the best relationship with the rice age and then used for the rice production estimation. The equation of rice production estimation is y = 7,7429ln (x) + 11,147, where y is the rice production in ton/ha and x is the value of NDVI of Sentinel-2A imagery in rice age range of 57 to 67 day after transplanting. The results of the accuracy test showed that the model obtained is suitable for estimating rice production with the accuracy level of 84,59% and a standard error of estimated production of ± 0,7463 ton/ha. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that the Sentinel-2A satellite imagery can be used to estimate the rice production with the enough accuracy. The results are expected to be a reference in estimating rice production in Tabanan Regency.

Abstract

Mapping of Land Drought in El Nino Phenomenon 2002, 2009 and 2015 in Bali Province Using Remote Sensing Technology and Geographical Information System Land dryness caused by the El Nino phenomenon in an area has a major impact on land productivity. The objectives of this study are (1) to compare the level of land dryness based on the El Nino phenomenon in 2002, 2009 and 2015, and (2) to determine the impact of El Nino on food crop production in Bali Province. To achieve this goal, this study uses Terra MODIS images. Drought condition is evaluated using vegetation greenness and air temperature parameters. Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) and Vegetation Condition Index (VCI) are used to predict the vegetation greenness, where as Land Surface Temperature (LST) and Temperature Condition Index (TCI) are utilized to estimate the air temperature. Finally, Vegetation Healthy Index (VHI) is calculated based on value of VCI and TCI. The results shows that the El Nino phenomena in 2002 is the strongest dryness in Bali Province followed by the El Nino in 2015 and 2009. Most of the drought is spread over coastal area of Bali Province. There is the time lag around 6 months between decreasing of rainfall and appearance of drought symptoms. The total production of food crops in 2015 is the lowest, namely 1,032,067 tons, compared with production in 2002 and 2009 that is 1,127,452 tons and 1,252,443 tons respectively. However, statistically El Nino phenomena has no significant effect on food crop production. This is caused by the rice field irrigation sistem in Bali Province is still well maintained and the ability of farmers to mitigate the impact of drough on agriculture production.
