Abstract

A research about analysis of vitamin B1 on the effeccts of long leaching on levels of vitamin B1 on white rice and red rice using UV-Visible spectrophotometry. Vitamin B1 reacted with bromthymol blue for compose ion-association complex. For improve solubility of Vitamin B1 complex compounds with bromthymol blue be added polivinyl alcohol as a solubilization substance, and added amonia buffer as pH buffer, that measured with wavelength of maximum absorbance was 431,0 nm. Average (%) Vitamin B1 level of white rice after leaching minutes 1 is 0,0166. Average vitamin B1 level of red rice after leaching minutes 1 is 0,0262. The highest level of vitamin B1 from the white rice and red rice was found on minute 1 after leaching. From the statistical analysis one way ANOVA using SPSS 17 program found a significant difference (p<0,05) from each sample.

Abstract

Abstract

Has done research on the analysis of phenolic compounds and antioxidant activity test on passion fruit (Passiflora edulis Sims) by visible spectrophotometry method. To determine the presence of phenolic compounds in the sample to be identified with iron  (III) chloride is characterized by the formation of dark blue color on the sample. Samples were macerated with 96% ethanol, performed three repetitions and the filtrate was concentrated using a rotary evaporator at a temperature of 400 C. Extracts were obtained determined the levels of phenolic compounds using Folin-ciocalteau method and test the antioxidant activity using DPPH method. Standard solution used is gallic acid. Equation linearity gallic acid used in the determination of phenolic compounds in the sample is y = 0.004x + 0.1366 with correlation coefficient (r) = 0.9956 measured at λ max 761.5 nm. the levels of phenolic compounds were obtained on average at the sample was 0.0377% w / w. The average percent inhibition of passion fruit sample solution were counted against the maximum wavelength of 512.0 nm DPPH is 19.8763%. The antioxidant activity of the sample solution of 10 mg is equivalent to 618.9760 mg gallic acid and gallic acid solution IC50 of 1.5604 mg / mL of the sample solution while the IC50 14.4751 mg / mL.

Abstract

Purple sweet potato (Ipomoea batatas) is one of the agricultural commodities as source of carbohydrates and energy which is included in the family of Convolvulaceae. It is also a good source of vitamins and minerals which is good for nutrition and health. One of the compounds contained in purple sweet potato is beta-carotene. Beta-carotene is a precursor of vitamin A. It is useful as an antioxidant, boosts the immune system and treats other diseases. Beta-carotene is unstable, especially at high temperature. This study aims at answering the question as to how the processing of purple sweet potato can effect to beta-carotene level by using Visible spectrophotometry method. This study is conducted by performing three treatments to purple sweet potato i.e. raw, fried and boiled sample. Weight of raw sample is 10 grams,  fried and boiled sample is 15 grams. The sample were extracted by liquid-liquid extraction and it is measured by Visibel spectrophotometer at maximum wavelength of 452.5 nm. The results obtained show that the average level of beta-carotene is 75.91 ±1.92 ppm for raw samples, 63.05 ± 3.45 ppm for fried, and 45.66 ± 0.82 ppm for boiled. The result is statistically calculated by one-way ANOVA statistical analysis. It shows that sig 0.000 (P < 0.05), and it indicates that there is an effect of processing to the average level of beta-carotene contained in purple sweet potato.

Abstract

It has been studied analysis of the synthetic sweetener sodium saccharin and sodium cyclamate in the tea drink. Synthetic sweetener were identified by color reactions and microcrystalline test. The result were compared with standard substances. Of the four samples examined here are three samples contain sodium cyclamate, while one other sample not find the content of sodium cyclamate and sodium saccharin. Levels of sodium cyclamate in the sample were determined by uv-vis spektofotometer. These levels are below the limit determined by Health Minister’s Regulation of Indonesian Republic which is 0.3 % for the soft drink.

Abstract

Studies have been conducted to analyse the hydroquinone and mercury content in beauty whitening creams from parlor and on the market in Padang city. Beauty whitening cream samples were A, B, C, D,E and F, then were observed using FeCl3, Ag-ammoniacal, Sodium Hydroxide, Potassium Iodide, and amalgam reagents. Hydroquinon was determined using Thin Layer Cromatography (TLC) and UV spectrophotometer. The results showed that six samples from three samples whitening cream B, D and F identified containing hydroquinone and two samples B and F contain mercury. So from the six samples of beauty whitening cream, three samples of the products do not contain hydroquinone and mercury.

Abstract

Dutch eggplant or tamarillo (Solanum betaceum Cav.) is a fruit native to the Amazon region of South America that was introduced to Indonesia by Dutch colonists. This fruit contains rich nutritional compounds including proteins, carbohydrates, fats, fiber, phenolic compounds, flavonoids, carotenoids, and vitamin C. This study aimed to determine and compare vitamin C levels in Dutch eggplant fruits at different maturity stages (unripe, semi-ripe, and ripe). Quantitative analysis was performed using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry at 266.5 nm wavelength. The results showed that vitamin C content in unripe samples was 5.906 mg/100g, semi-ripe samples contained 15.518 mg/100g, and ripe samples had 22.031 mg/100g. Statistical analysis using one-way ANOVA (SPSS 25.00) revealed significant differences (p<0.05) in vitamin C levels among the three maturity stages. This research demonstrates that ripeness stage significantly affects the vitamin C content in Dutch eggplant fruits, with fully ripe fruits containing the highest levels of vitamin C.
