Abstract

The use of a mixture of rhizome extracts of red ginger, turmeric, and kencur to control armyworms (Spodoptera litura F.) is an important prospect in increasing the yield of sweet potato crops, because plant-based pesticides can be used in single or mixed forms. The study aimed to determine the influence of various mixed effects of different concentrations of extracts of several rhizomes on the mortality of Grayak caterpillar pest (Spodoptera litura F.) on sweet potato plants (Ipomoea batatas L.). As well as determining the concentration of rhizome extract mixture that is more effective in controlling Grayak caterpillar pests (Spodoptera sp.) on sweet potato plants (Ipomoea batatas L.). This study used a method with a Group Random Design (RAK) consisting of 5 treatments and 5 replicates. The treatment is: 1. Control (sterile water application), 2. A mixture of red ginger, turmeric, and kencur rhizome extracts 40%, 50%, 60%, 70%, 80%, 90% through food (Stomach poison). The experiment was arranged in a complete randomized design of four replicates each using instar 2 larvae of Spodoptera sp. as many as 280 heads. Research Results The observation results showed that there was an influence of each concentration tested on the pest Spodoptera sp. through food (Stomach poison) against the larvae of the second instar where the level of attack caused in the instar is very high, so the concentration used is 40%-90%. All concentrations showed a real effect on the larvae of the two instars, at a concentration of 40% a mortality rate of 11.50%, and the highest concentration was 90% with a mortality rate of 80%..

Abstract

Cucumber (Cucumis sativus L.) is one of the vegetable plants that has many benefits, namely besides being able to be used as vegetables, fresh vegetables, salads or pickles, cucumbers are also beneficial for health because the nutritional value of cucumbers is quite good as a source of minerals and vitamins. Efforts to increase cucumber plant production can be influenced by many factors, one of which is fertilization. Fertilization is a determining factor in efforts to increase the availability of nutrients for plants, thus the expected impact of fertilization is not only to increase the yield per unit area but also to be efficient in the use of fertilizers. The method in this research is Non Factorial Randomized Group Design with four treatments and six replications, namely A0 (Control), A1 (Cow dung manure dose of 3 kg / polybag), A2 (Cow dung manure dose of 5 kg / polybag) and A3 (Cow dung manure dose of 7 kg / polybag). The results showed that the treatment of cow dung manure gave a significant effect on the parameters of plant height and fruit weight. The best treatment is found in A3, which is the application of cow dung manure at 7 kg/polybag.

Abstract

This study identifies and analyzes the occurrence of pest attacks on oil palm plants in the TBM 3 area. Observations were conducted from August 2023 to November 2023 at PTPN IV Sosa, Padang Lawas Regency. The observation began with conducting a survey at the sample collection sites, which are in the oil palm plantation area of PTPN IV Sosa, Padang Lawas Regency. Samples were taken from several areas, namely TBM 1, TBM 2, TBM 3, and TM. The area observed in each section was 1 hectare, with a population of 143 trees in each observation area. The samples used comprised 10% of the total population, resulting in a total of 14 trees observed per area. Observations started from the 10th row at the 5th tree from the roadside, continuing to the 15th tree, and so on, following that pattern. The results indicate that rats, particularly Rattus rattus tiomanicus, are the most significant pests, with an attack percentage reaching 37.16%. In contrast, the incidence of termite attacks is significantly lower, at 2.87%. Although the impact of termite attacks is not as severe as that of rats, continuous monitoring of termite pest attacks remains necessary, especially on younger, more vulnerable plants. These findings highlight the need for effective and sustainable pest control strategies to maintain the health and productivity of oil palm plants.

Abstract

This main pest can damage oil palm crops at the unproductive harvest stage (TBM). The purpose of this study is to determine the prevalence of severe pest attacks on non-producing oil palm (TBM) plants. Unproductive crops (TBM) were selected for data collection on the main pest infestation areas. Data from the available regional pest attack observations were obtained by selecting local pest attack data. The observed parameter is the severity of pest attacks in 2022. Observation results show that the rate of rat attacks increases in the dry season, while other pests decrease in the rainy season. From the observation results, it can be concluded that the proportion of damage caused by rats increases in the dry season, while other pests decrease in the rainy season. From June to July, rats (0.35%), horned beetles (0.35%), and yellow beetles (0.15%) were exposed to pests, and from July to August, rats (0.5%) were exposed to horn beetles (0.1%) and beetles. and brown beetles (0.15%). The pest infestation category (rats, horn beetles, and brown beetles) is classified as a light attack.

Abstract

Shallots are a horticultural commodity that has an important role in the Indonesian economy. The use of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) in shallot cultivation can reduce the use of excess inorganic fertilizer. The aim of this research was to determine the effect of applying liquid organic fertilizer (POC) and inorganic fertilizer on the growth and production of shallots. The research used a randomized block design (RAK) with two factors. The first factor is the POC dose (0, 16 ml, 32 ml), the second factor is the anosganic fertilizer percentage dose of 0%, 50% and 100%. POC is applied every week 8 times, while inorganic fertilizer is applied 7 days after planting (DAP) and 30 DAP. Data analysis used analysis of variance (ANNOVA) and DMRT further test. The results showed that giving POC and a combination of both fertilizers had no significant effect (P>0.05), while giving inorganic fertilizer had a very significant effect on the growth and production of shallots (P<0.01). Providing a 50% dose of inorganic fertilizer produced the tallest plant (38.21 cm), the highest number of leaves (47.53), the highest number of tubers (22.10), the heaviest wet tuber weight (150.05 g) and the heaviest dry weight (132.22 g). ). The effect of giving the best fertilizer on the growth and production of shallots was obtained at a dose of 50% inorganic fertilizer.
