Abstract

The swim up method is a method of selecting X and Y spermatozoa. This study aims to determine how resiquimod (R848) levels affect the percentage of X spermatozoa and Y spermatozoa in the semen of Etawah crossbreed goats (PE) resulting from sexing using the swim up method. This research was carried out from 1 - 30 January 2024 with the research object being male PE goats with a lifespan of 4 years. The research results were analyzed using variance, followed by Duncan's multiple range test to determine differences between treatments. In this study, four treatments were given, namely  (without R848),  (R484 0.3 μM),   (R484 0.6 μM), and  (R848 0.9 μM). Each treatment was repeated six times. The results of this study showed that the use of resiquimod (R848) did not have a significant difference in the percentage of X and Y spermatozoa. It can be concluded that it had no effect on the percentage of PE goat spermatozoa in the lower and upper layers.Keywords: Resiquimod (R848), Percentage of Spermatozoa, Swim up method, Goat PE

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effect of adding the antioxidant Alpha-Tocopherol to the preservation medium on follicle diameter and oocyte quality of local sheep ovaries after 24 hours of storage at 4–5°C. The ovaries were divided into four treatment groups: P1 (dPBS), P2 (dPBS + 200 µM H₂O₂), P3 (dPBS + 200 µM H₂O₂ + 3 mM alpha-tocopherol), and P4 (dPBS + 3 mM alpha-tocopherol). The results showed no significant differences in follicle diameter changes among all treatments. The addition of Alpha-Tocopherol also did not demonstrate a notable effect in maintaining oocyte quality. Oocytes collected from all treatment groups exhibited relatively similar percentages of grade 1, 2, and 3. This study indicates that Alpha-Tocopherol does not provide a significant protective effect on follicle diameter or oocyte quality during short-term ovary preservation.

Abstract

Maserasi fetus adalah kondisi patologis selama masa kebuntingan ditunjukkan dengan adanya kematian janin diikuti dengan proses pembusukan dan penghancuran jaringan fetus. Maserasi fetus pada laporan kasus kali ini terjadi pada induk kambing peranakan etawa yang menjadi resepien program sinkronisasi birahi dan inseminasi buatan (IB). Hasil pemeriksaan ultrasonografi dan palpasi abdomen pada kambing menunjukkan tanda kebuntingan 3 bulan pasca IB. Namun hingga bulan ke 7 tidak menunjukkan adanya tanda-tanda kelahiran. Hasil pemeriksaan fisik terlihat pembesaran abdomen dan teraba janin pada palpasi abdominal, akan tetapi pada vulva terdapat leleran darah dan nanah. Terapi dengan penyuntikan hormon PGF2α dilakukan untuk mendilatasi servik dan kontraksi myometrium sehingga janin dapat keluar. Kondisi janin yang keluar tampak abdominal hingga ekstremitas caudal sudah membusuk dan lisis. Induk kambing PE didiagnosa mengalami maserasi sebagian pada fetus. Terapi pada induk dilanjutkan dengan pemberian antibiotik dan multivitamin.

Abstract

Abortus pada sapi merupakan kondisi ketidakmampuan fetus untuk bertahan hidup di dalam rahim hingga saat akan dilahirkan. Tulisan ini merupakan laporan pertamakali kasus abortus idiopatik superfetasi dari perkawinan alami yang terjadi pada induk sapi Pasundan primipara. Sapi-sapi awalnya dipelihara dengan sistem kandang koloni dan bercampur antara jantan (n=10) dan betina dara (n=18) selama 2 minggu pascapemindahan sapi dari kandang ternak di Kabupaten Ciamis. Terjadi kebuntingan oleh perkawinan alami pada sapi dara tanpa diketahui usia dan riwayat kebuntingan. Seekor induk sapi teramati menunjukkan gejala perdarahan pervagina, mengejan dan disertai pengeluaran fetus berukuran kecil (panjang ~25 cm, usia fetus ~120 hari) beberapa jam kemudian, sebelumnya sapi telah mengalami abortus dengan ukuran fetus yang besar (panjang ~36 cm, usia fetus ~150 hari). Induk sapi Pasundan primipara yang mengalami abortus kemudian dipisahkan ke kandang individu untuk mengurangi stress dan untuk observasi lebih lanjut. Terapi yang diberikan adalah dengan pemberian antibiotik dan multivitamin.

Abstract

Mastitis pada ruminansia kecil menimbulkan tantangan besar dalam kedokteran hewan karena berdampak signifikan pada kesejahteraan dan produktivitas hewan. Studi kasus ini menggambarkan mastitis klinis pada domba Etawah betina berumur empat tahun setelah melahirkan. Pemeriksaan fisik mengungkapkan adanya peradangan di kelenjar susu kanan. Kondisi domba tersebut memburuk akibat luka terbuka yang muncul dari gesekan kulit kelenjar susu dengan lantai saat berbaring. Lesi tersebut meluas, menghasilkan eksudat purulen yang berubah menjadi koreng. Penghentian pemerahan pada kelenjar susu yang terinfeksi berakibat buruk pada kesehatannya karena akumulasi susu dalam alveoli mendukung pertumbuhan dan reproduksi bakteri. Regimen pengobatan yang diterapkan meliputi penggunaan penisilin dan sulpidon; namun, kondisi domba tersebut terus memburuk, menunjukkan bahwa pengobatan tersebut tidak efektif.

Abstract

Gizi seimbang merupakan aspek penting dalam menunjang kesehatan dan kesejahteraan anak-anak di Indonesia. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kreativitas ibu-ibu dalam mengkomunikailan gizi seimbang kepada anak-anak di Kelurahan Keranggan, Tangerang Selatan. Metode yang digunakan adalah observasi, wawancara, workshop, dokumentasi, dan triangulasi data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa program penyuluhan komunikasi bekal gizi seimbang efektif dalam meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kreativitas ibu-ibu. Sebagian besar ibu setelah mengikuti program workshop menilai bahwa program dan materi yang disuguhkan sangat penting dan menarik. Hal ini dapat dilihat pada Tabel Rekapitulasi data. Penelitian ini merekomendasikan program penyuluhan serupa untuk dilakukan di wilayah lain dengan fokus pada peningkatan pengetahuan dan praktik kreativitas ibu-ibu dalam mengkomunikailan bekal gizi seimbang kepada anak-anak.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to determine the best combination of cryoprotectant (Ethylene glycol, EG), dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) and propanediol (PrOH) and carrier system (hemistraw and cryotop) in improving ewe oocytes viability during cryopreservation. Oocytes with multi layers of compact cumulus cells were colleted from abbatoir and matured in TCM 199 medium supplemented with 10% fetal calf serum for 24-26 h at 38.5 C under 5% CO2 in the air. Matured oocyte was divided into six parts and vitrified in three different vitrification solutions; (i) 17% EG+17% DMSO with hemistraw as carrier system, (ii) 34% EG with hemistraw as carrier system, (iii) 17% EG+17% PrOH in hemistraw (iv), 17% EG+17% DMSO with cryotop as carrier system (v), 34% EG with cryotop as carrier system (vi), and 17% EG+17% PrOH in cryotop. Oocytes were cryopreserved for one week before revived and evaluated for viability. The result showed that oocytes vitrified in media containing EG and DMSO in cryotop had the highest viability (88.16%) compared to media containing EG only or EG and PrOH (70.95% and 68.76%, respectively) (P0.05). Moreover, oocytes viability that vitrified using cryotop and hemistraw as carrier system were not significantly different. The present results indicated that vitrification using combination of EG and DMSO as permeable cryoprotectant and cryotop as carrier system was the best system to maintain oocyte viability after vitrification-warming.

Abstract

AbstractThe use of vaginal sponge in estrous synchronization has been a popular method to uniform estrous cycle of small ruminants. In order to increase the litter size, the use of the sponge is combined with PMSG. Therefore the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of PMSG in combination with vaginal sponge on estrous response and litter size of Javanese local sheep. The study was conducted in Faculty of Animal Husbandry, Padjadjaran University, Indonesia with 32 non-pregnant local sheep. All these sheep was divided into four groups of treatment, i.e: 1) group of sheep was subjected to vaginal sponge (VS) treatment containing 30 mg Medroxyprogesterone acetat (MAP) inserted in the vagina for 14 days; 2) group of sheep was subjected to the 30 mg MAP in VS plus 300 IU PMSG injection -1 d before VS removal; 3) group of sheep was subjected to the 30 mg MAP in VS plus 300 IU PMSG injection at the day of VS removal; 4) group of sheep was subjected to the 30 mg MAP in VS plus 300 IU PMSG injection +1 d after VS removal. The result showed that all treatment groups had 100% of estrous response. However, the occurrence of estrous time varied among group after VS removal. Group 1 (G1) and G4 tend to have estrous occurrence at day 3 after VS removal by 55% and 75% response, respectively. Whilst, G2 and G3 tend to have estrous occurrence respectively at day 1 (62,5%) and day 2 (50%) after VS removal. A 100% of pregnancy rate occurs in G2 and G4, while G1 and G3 have a 88,9% and 87,5%, respectively. No significant effects of the treatments on the ewes litter size. In conclusion, the use of PMSG administration 24 h prior, after, or at sponge withdrawal increase a tighter synchrony of oestrous and pregnancy rate, but has no effect on the increasing of litter size in Javanese local sheep.Keywords: Vaginal sponge, PMSG, estrous response, pregnancy rate, litter size, sheep
