Abstract

Wood is a basic requirement in the industrial activity such as constructions and furniture. While timber production decreased so that required an efficient utilization of wood. The solution to overcome this problem is use of sago bark in the form of composite board. Plastic is a material consisting of artificial inorganic chemicals are quite harmful to the environment so it is necessary to increase the value of plastic. In the process of making composite board using compatibilizer to improve the bonding between the fibers. The study aims to determine the quality of the composite board made from sago bark and polypropylene plastic waste based on addition of compatibilizer. Percentage of compatibilizer used 0%, 2,5%, and 5% of the weight of the plastic. Composite board size was 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with a target density of 0.7g/cm3 at compression 25 kg/cm2 with temperature 180ºC for 10 minutes. Evaluation the physical properties (density, moisture content,thickness swelling and water absorption ) and mechanical properties (modulus of elasticity, modulus of rupture, internal bonding and strong hold the screws) was conducted according to standard JIS A 5908-2003. The result of research showed that the highest quality of composite board was achieved on the highest addition with percentage compatibilizer 5%. Abstract

The research aimed to evaluate the effect of particle size and adhesives on the quality of biopelet from oil palm trunk. The adhesives used were tapioca and sago. The particle size were pass 10 mesh and retained 20 mesh; pass 20 mesh and retained 40 mesh; pass 40 mesh and retained 60 mesh; and pass 60 mesh. Biopelet was made by meat mincer in home scale and resulted the biopelet with size 2 cm long and diameter 0.4 cm.  Biopelet then dry in oven for 24 hour with temperature 600C-700C. The quality of biopelet was evaluate with SNI 8021 : 2014. Result of the research showed that average value of moisture content were 5.27%-6.75% ; average value of ash content 4.69%-8.73%; average of volatile matter content were 72.62%-77.46% ; average value of fixed carbon were 14.02%-21.60%; average value of calor were 3719,67 cal/g-4451,67 cal/g. The quality of biopelet can fulfill the requirement standard of SNI 8021 : 2014, except on ash content. The best result was on particle with size pass 10 mesh and retained 20 mesh with adhesives tapioca. Keyword: Biopelet, bioenergy, sago, tapioca

Abstract

Research aimed to measure the chemical compound in oil palm stem (Elaeis guinensis Jacq) based on height (base, middle, top) and depth (side, medium and core). Chemical properties studied are hot water soluble extractives content, solubility in 1% NaOH, benzene-soluble alcohol, holocellulosa, alpha - cellulose and lignin content. The procedure based on ASTM D 1110 – 56. Result of research showed that the average value of the levels of extractive substances in hot water ranged from 11,963% -15.032%, the average value of extractive substances soluble in 1% NaOH was range from 16.639% -18.027% and the average value of the levels extractive soluble substances of alcohol benzene ranged from 8.552% -10.693%. Meanwhile the average of holocellulose levels ranged from 82.534% -88.328% and the average value of alpha cellulose content ranged from 11.243% -68.761%. The average value of the lignin content ranges between 6.213% -33.702%. Analysis of variance showed that height and depth of stem was not significance to the levels of extractive substances in hot water, extractive substances soluble in 1% NaOH, extractive soluble substances of alcohol benzene, and holocellulose content. Meanwhile for alpha cellulose was significant. The height of stem was highly significant effect to lignin content, meanwhile depth of stem was not significant. This result showed that stem of oil palm can be used for composite board, particle board and other wood product. Keywords: Oil palm stem, extractives, lignin, cellulose, stem height, stem depth

Abstract

The study aims to determine the effect of the concentration of liquid smoke from oil palm empty fruit bunches on the durability of oil palm trunk particleboard (Elaeis guineensis Jacq) and to determine the optimum concentration of liquid smoke. The method of research is an experiment carried out in completely randomized design (CRD), which consists of three treatments and three replications. Particle board made with three types of layers, with the size of 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm, the target density of 0.8 g / cm3, compression temperature 140oC, pressure of 25 kg / cm2 for 10 minutes. Adhesive used is Urea Formaldehyde with a concentration of 16% for the surface layer (face) and bottom (back) and 14% for the middle layer (core) with a solid content 52%. The treatment used is liquid smoke with concentration 0%, 5% and 10%. Testing the durability of particle board using baiting methods to subterranean termite Coptotermes curvignathus Holmgren for 21 days. The results of research showed that the oil palm trunk particleboard with liquid smoke concentration level of 10% was the best 2 vality the mortality value 100%. Meanwhile the best result for particleboard weight loss was achived on liquid smoke level 5% with average value 0.45% from physical, mechanical and durability properties of particleboard made from oil palm with liquid smoke, the best result was achieved on particleboard with level 10%. Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the characteristic of  particleboard from characteristics of dregs sago and citric acid adhesive based on board density. The research was conducted at Wood Workshop Laboratory, Wood Processing Laboratory, Faculty of Forestry, Tanjungpura University and Laboratory of PT. Duta Pertiwi Nusantara Pontianak. Citric acid adhesive was used with a concentration of 20 % based on the dry weight of sago dregs. The board sample target density where 0,5 gr/cm3, 0,6 gr/cm3, 0,7 gr/cm3. The board sampels were tested by JIS A 5908 - 2003 Type 8. The particleboard was 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm in hot pressure with temperature 1800c at 25 kgf/cm2. The research result showed that all density value and water content of particleboard here fullfil the JIS A 5908 - 2003 Type 8 standard. The best particleboard in this research was a board with 0,7 gr/cm3 density.Keywords: Citric Acid, Density, Dregs of Sago, Particleboard.

Abstract

 This research aimed to evaluate the physical and mechanical properties of particleboards from rice husk and veneer waste based on differences in the particle layer arrangement and adhesive content, as well as to determine the particleboard that produces the best physical and mechanical properties. This research was conducted at the Wood Processing Laboratory and Wood Workshop Laboratory at Forestry Faculty, Tanjungpura University and the Laboratory of PT. Duta Pertiwi Nusantara. The materials used in this research consisted of rice husk and veneer waste with a ratio of 50:50, urea formaldehyde (UF) adhesive, 1% paraffin, and 0.1% catalyst. The research method was factorial experiment in Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with two factors, namely factor A (Layer Arrangement) consisting of three-layer boards (veneer-husk-veneer), three-layer boards (husk-veneer-husk) and homogeneous boards and factor B (adhesive content) of 14% and 16%. The particle boards were made manually with a size of 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm and a target density of 0.8 gr / cm3 and the pressing was done at 165°C with a pressure of 30 kg/cm2 for 6 minutes. The results indicate that the values of density, moisture content, MOR and adhesion in the homogeneous arrangement treatment, as well as screw holding strength in the three-layer arrangement treatment (husk-veneer-husk) met the standard of JIS A 5908: 2003. The best particle board was produced in a homogeneous arrangement treatment with an adhesive content of 16%.Keywords: adhesive content, layer arrangement, particle board, rice husk, veneer waste.AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi sifat fisik dan mekanik papan partikel dari limbah sekam padi dan finir berdasarkan perbedaan susunan lapisan partikel dan kadar perekat, serta menentukan papan partikel yang menghasilkan sifat fisik dan mekanik terbaik. Penelitian ini dilakukan di Laboratorium Pengolahan Kayu dan Laboratorium Wood Workshop di Fakultas Kehutanan Universitas Tanjungpura dan Laboratorium PT. Duta Pertiwi Nusantara. Bahan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini yaitu limbah sekam padi dan limbah finir dengan rasio 50 : 50, perekat  urea formaldehida (UF), parafin 1%, dan katalis 0,1%. Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah percobaan faktorial dalam Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) dengan dua faktor yaitu A (Susunan Lapisan) terdiri dari papan tiga lapis (finir-sekam-finir), papan tiga lapis (sekam-finir-sekam) dan papan homogen, factor B (kadar perekat) 14% dan 16%. Papan partikel dibuat secara manual dengan ukuran 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm dan target kerapatan 0,8 gr/cm3, pengempaan dilakukan pada suhu 165 °C dengan tekanan 30 kg/cm2 selama 6 menit. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai kerapatan, kadar air, MOR dan keteguhan rekat pada perlakuan susunan homogen, serta kuat pegang sekrup pada perlakuan susunan tiga lapis (sekam-finir-sekam) telah memenuhi standar JIS A 5908 : 2003. Papan partikel terbaik dihasilkan pada perlakuan susunan homogen dengan kadar perekat 16%.Kata kunci : kadar perekat, susunan lapisan, , papan partikel, sekam padi, limbah finir.

Abstract

The research aimed to analyze the quality of Particleboard from Sago Fiber (Metroxylon spp) and natural citric acid adhesives based on the pressing time. The research was done in Wood Processing Laboratory of Faculty of Forestry of Tanjungpura University for the preparation of raw materials and Duta Pertiwi Nusantara (DPN) Laboratory for the manufacture and testing of samples. The materials used are sago bark fiber, citric acid adhesive and water aquades. Testing of particle board properties refers to JIS A 5908 - 2003 Type 8 standard covering physical and mechanical properties. Variations of pressure time used were 10 minutes, 15 minutes, and 20 minutes. The particle board is 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm forged hot with a temperature of 1600C at 25 kgf / cm2 pressure. The result of the research showed that the time of impact was significant to the density, and very significant effect on water absorption, thickness development, MOE, MOR, stickiness and screw holding strength, but no significant effect on water content. The physical properties of the particle board have tulltie JIS A 5908 - 2003 type 8 standards were density, moisture content, water absorption and thickness swelling at 15 minutes and 20 minutes. While the mechanical properties that fulfill the standard of JIS A 5908 - 2003 Type 8 is MOR at 20 minutes. The best particle board at 1600C with 20 minutes hot press time is: density 0,6084 g / cm3, moisture content 7.0987%, water absorption 64,9039%, thickness 4,1345% development, MOR 94,5187 kg / cm2.Keywords: Citric Acid, Particle Board, Particle Board Quality Of Sago Fiber, physical and mechanical properties, pressing Time.

Abstract

The community at Kuala Dua village, Kembayan sub district, Sanggau Regency has used non timber forest product for handicraft. The research purposes were to identified the raw material of non-timber forest product which used by the community to produce handicraft. The methods used in depth interview with the community. The respondent was chosen by snowball sampling. Total number of respondents was 14 persons.  Result of the research showed that 4 non timber forest product used for handicraft.  The plant used were bambu tali (Gigantochloa apus), nipah (Nypa fruticans), resam (Distranopteris linearis), and rotan lilin (Calamus javensis). The product was used for daily live and also sell to the market. Bambu tali was made into bakul and ketoro, nipah leaf was made into roof material, resam was made into ring and rotan lilin was made into basket, dish and  cupboard.Keywords: Calamus javensis, Distranopteris linearis, Gigantochloa apus, handicraft, Nypa fruticans

Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of particle size and urea formaldehyde adhesive concentration on the physical and mechanical properties of particle board from Acacia crassicarpa wood waste, and to determine the particle size and concentration of the best urea formaldehyde to meet  JIS A 5908-2003 standard. The materials used in this study are wood waste Acacia crassicarpa, urea formaldehyde adhesive, liquid paraffin and catalyst. The particle size used consisted of passing 4 mesh retained 6 mesh (coarse particles), passing 6 mesh retained 8 mesh (medium particle) and passing 8 mesh retained 10 mesh (fine particles), wereas the concentration of urea formaldehyde adhesive comprises 8%, 10% and 12%. The particle board is made with size 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with target density of 0.70 gr/cm3 at pressure of 25 kg/cm2 and temperature of 120oC for 10 minutes. The results showed that particle size factor had a significant effect on density, moisture content, water absorption, internal bond strength and screw holding power, thickness swelling and MOR. The concentration factor of urea formaldehyde adhesive has significant effect on density, moisture content, thickness swelling, water absorption, MOE, MOR, internal bond strength and screw holding power. The interaction of both factors had a significant effect on moisture content and screw holding power. The best particle board in the recent study was on a particle board made of coarse particle size (passing 4 mesh retained 6 mesh) with a 12% urea formaldehyde adhesive concentration, in which the physical and mechanical properties of the particle board that meet JIS A 5908-2003 standard except for the thickness swelling.Keywords: adhesive concentration, particle board, particle size, physical and mechanical  properties, wood waste Acacia crassicarpa

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of layer composition and the ratio of citric acid-sucrose as well as the interaction of both of them to the optimum quality of the particleboards. Particleboards were made in sizes 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm with a target density of 0.7 gr/cm3. Particleboards were prepared by hot pressing at temperature of 160 oC for 20 minutes with a pressure of 25 kg/cm2. Particleboards consists of 3 layers with a composition of layers, namely f/b70: c30, f/b60: c40, and f/b50: c50, with a surface layer (face, back) made form of sago stem bark and core layers made form of pulp sago.  Ratio of citric acid-sucrose in this study was varied from 0/100, 25/75, 75/25, and 100/0. Particleboards testing refers to standard JIS A 5908-2003 Type 8. The results showed that the layer composition had a significant effect on density, water absorption, internal bond (IB), and screw holding strenght. Meanwhile ratio of citrid acid-sucrose significantly affected the water content, water absorption, thickness development, MOE, MOR, internal bond (IB), and screw holding strenght. The interaction beetwen the composition layer factor and ratio of citrid acid-sucrose has a significant effect on water content, thickness development, MOE, MOR, and internal bond (IB). The best particleboards is in the treatment with the composition of the layer f/b70: c30 and the ratio of citric acid-sucrose 25/75 with a density value of 0.7675 gr/cm3, a moisture content of 7.5939%, modulus of rupture (MOR) 161.4350 kg/cm2, and the screw holding strength is 66.1930 kg/cm2.Keyword: citrid acid-sucrose, composition of layers, dregs and fibers of sago, particleboardsAbstrakTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisa pengaruh komposisi lapisan dan perbandingan asam sitrat-sukrosa serta interaksi keduanya terhadap kualitas papan partikel yang optimum. Papan partkel dibuat dengan ukuran 30 cm x 30 cm x 1 cm dengan target kerapatan 0,7 gr/cm3. Papan partikel dikempa panas pada suhu 160 oC selama 20 menit dengan tekanan 25 kg/cm2. Papan partikel terdiri dari 3 lapisan dengan komposisi lapisan yaitu f/b70 : c30, f/b60 : c40, dan f/b50 : c50,  dengan lapisan permukaan (face, back) berupa serat kulit batang sagu dan lapisan inti (core) berupa ampas sagu. Rasio asam sitrat-sukrosa dalam penelitian ini bervariasi 0/100, 25/75, 75/25, dan 100/0. Pengujian papan partikel mengacu pada standar JIS A 5908-2003 Type 8. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan  faktor komposisi lapisan berpengaruh nyata terhadap kerapatan, daya serap air, keteguhan rekat internal (IB) dan kuat pegang sekrup.  Sedangkan faktor rasio perekat asam sitrat sukrosa berpengaruh nyata terhadap kadar air, daya serap air, pengembangan tebal, MOE, MOR, keteguhan rekat internal (IB), dan kuat pegang sekrup. Interaksi antara faktor komposisi lapisan dan rasio asam sitrat-sukrosa berpengaruh nyata terhadap daya serap air, pengembangan tebal, MOE, MOR, dan keteguhan rekat internal (IB). Papan partikel terbaik terdapat pada perlakuan dengan komposisi lapisan f/b70 : c30 dan perbandingan asam sitrat-sukrosa 25/75 dengan nilai kerapatan 0,7675 gr/cm3, kadar air 7,5939 %, keteguhan patah (MOR) 161,4350 kg/cm2, dan kuat pegang sekrup 66,1930 kg/cm2.
