Abstract

Abstract                 This research has purpose to find out how English teachers respond towards students misbehavior. The writers used two instruments in gotten the data which were observation checklist, video and field note.  The sample was two English teachers who taught at VIII grade of Junior high school in Padang. Writers wanted to know how English teachers respond to passive and active misbehavior that has been done by the students in the teaching learning process. The data were the participants which are teacher 1 and teacher 2 used serious and minor respond toward students’ misbehavior. In the students’ passive misbehavior they used difference respond. Teacher 1 used serious respond and teacher 2 used minor response. Then, in the active students’ misbehavior both of the teachers used serious responds.

Abstract

This research investigated students’ belief on learning English as a foreign language at Social Science Department of STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat. Based on the learner-centered approaches to foreign language teaching, it is important for teacher to understand about students’ prior knowledge and experiences, expectations, and attitudes towards language learning. Belief as part of attitude can influence students’ way of thinking, feeling, or making sense of the learning process. Thus, the teachers need to know about students’ belief. The purpose was to find what beliefs about language learning do Social Science Department students hold? The methodology of research is descriptive quantitative research. It describes the phenomena about students’ belief in the field. This study examines all students in Social Science Department of STKIP PGRI Sumatera Barat which totally 10 students. The data were taken form a questionnaire. The findings of the research showed that English subject in campus is not enough for students to develop their English ability. However, they belief that they have a special ability in learning English. The results also showed that some students have belief which in learning English students have to know the culture of the native speaker, have good grammar, pronunciation and practice regularly.

Abstract

This article aims to describe form of using address form based on matrilineal progeny in minangkabauneese in Pariaman region, to describe form based on marriage in Minangkabauneese in Pariaman region, and to describe about the address form is given based on the differences of physically appearance and the orderly position in the family kinship in Pariaman region. This research is qualitative research by using descriptive method. The research data is address form in Minangkabauneese in Pariaman region sub – district Pariaman. The source of this research is verbal source as a primary source uttered by informant as native speaker. The data is collected by using listening method, recording technique and writing technique as continuation technique. The research findings are there are 10 address form for grandparents, 12 address form for parents, 33 address form of brothers or sisters from mother,  21 address form of brothers or sisters from father, and 24 address form of older brothers or sisters in Pariaman region.

Abstract

AbstractTechnology Information students need the material in English subject that relate with their department. However, most of the lecturers used the materials in general English in working fields. Thus, in this research the writer did it to know the students’ need. In this research, the samples are the students in the technology informatics computer department. There is one class which is 28 students. The writer took all students through technology informatics computer sampling is total sampling. The instrument that writer used to take the data is questionnaires through close – ended questions. The design of this research is descriptive quantitative research. Then, the findings reveal that, in terms of necessities, students require English materials that are simple, relevant to IT contexts, and easy to understand. Regarding lacks, students have limited vocabulary, which hinders their ability to comprehend reading texts. Concerning wants, students express a strong desire to improve their speaking fluency; however, classroom instruction rarely provides sufficient opportunities for speaking practice. The results suggest that English teachers should design and implement learning materials that are contextually relevant to the IT and emphasize communicative activities to enhance students’ speaking competence.
