Abstract

The role of coastal communities in the preservation of coral reefs is an important thing to supporting the sustainable management of coastal areas. This article is objected to determine the coastal communities’ role in the management of coral reefs in water conservation areas and the level of knowledge of the coastal communities about the importance of protecting coastal ecosystems. Data were collected by distributing questionnaires, direct interviews and Focus Group Discussions (FGD) and the results were elaborated based on descriptive analysis. The results showed that the community had begun to realize how important it is to protect coral reefs for the sustainability of fisheries and other benefits of coral reefs. Healthy reefs provide many benefits to people including improving the economy of the community and increasing tourists. Community awareness is shown by their participation in activities that lead to the conservation and management of coral reefs such as transplantation of coral reefs, beach cleaning, banner making, tree planting and provision of trash bins along the coast. Those who knew the benefits and functions of coral reefs both for increasing fish populations, increasing tourists and improving the economy of the community, as well as other benefits of coral reefs for the coastal areas, was 74.5%. The role of community in the aspects of coastal and marine ecosystems management was high, as many as 72% of the community participate in every coastal and marine ecosystem management activity carried out by the government and local NGOs.

Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate of patin seed (Pangasius hypothalamus) that is given Tubifex sp. as additional feed. The experiment design was used  completely randomized design with four treatments and four replications. The treatments studied were 100 % pellet without the addition of Tubifex sp. (A), 95 % pellet with the addition of  Tubifex sp. 5 % (B), 90 % pellet with the addition of  Tubifex sp. 10 % (C) and 85 % pellet with the addition of  Tubifex sp. 15 % (D). Patin seed stocking density was 1 individu/l with the length of  3-4 cm and weight of  0,15-0,28 g. The culture period for one cycle of fish farming was 40 days. The ANOVA test showed commercial feeding with the addition of Tubifex sp. as additional feed gave the significant effect on the specific of growth rate, length and feed conversion ratio, but did not give the significant effect on survival rate of patin seed. The best dose to increase the growth of catfish seeds is 85% commercial feeding with the addition of Tubifex sp. 15%.

Abstract

Minapadi is a fish rearing system in rice fields that is carried out with rice plants. This study aims to increase the income of farmers with high productivity of rice yields and increase the production of giant prawns. The method used is a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) experiment with 3 treatments and 3 replications. The treatments were: P1 = stocking density of 100 birds/plot, P2 = stocking density of 200 birds/plot, P3 = stocking density of 300 birds/plot. This research was conducted for 90 days. Parameters observed were rice productivity and growth. The results showed that the best treatment was P2 = stocking density of 200 birds/plot. by producing an average value of rice productivity of 5 kg/50 m2 and an average value of growth of giant prawns of 4.72%.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengatahui pengaruh pemberian tepung kulit udang pada pakan komersil terhadap tingkat kecerahan warna ikan komet (Carrasius auratus). Penelitian ini dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Teknologi Produksi Benih dan Pakan Ikan. Rancangan percoban yang digunakan adalah Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) non faktorial dimana terdiri dari 4 perlakuan 4 ulangan, A0 = 100% pakan komersil (Kontrol), A1 = Tepung kulit udang 10 gram/90 gram pakan komersil A2 = pakan Tepung kulit udang 20 gram/(80 gram) pakan komersil A3 = Tepung kulit udang 30 gram/(70 gram) pakan komersil. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahawa pemberian tepung kulit udang berpengaruh nyata terhadap rasio konversi pakan dan yang terbaik A3= 1,85% benih ikan komet ( Carrasius auratus). Namun, pemberian tepung kulit pada pakan komersil tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap tingkat kecerahan warna ikan komet (Carrasius auratus). Semakin tinggi dosis pemberian tepung kulit udang dalam pakan menghasilkan tingkat kecerahan warna orange yang lebih tinggi.

Abstract

This study aimed to determine the optimal salinity and calcium levels in rearing media to increase the growth of tinfoil barb seed (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii). The experiment design was arranged in factorial completely randomized design with three replications. The treatment included three media salinity levels, that is, 0 ppt, 3 ppt, 6 ppt and four addition calcium, that is, 0 mg L"1, 10 mg L"1, 20 mg L"1, and 30 mg L"1. Fish stocking density was 1 individu L"1 with an average length of 2.00±0.03 cm and an average initial weight of 0.33 ± 0.05 g. The culture period for one cycle of fish farming was 40 days. The result showed the combination of 3 ppt salinity media and addition 20 mg L"1 calcium was the best rearing media to increase the growth of tengadak fish, that the parameters of daily average growth rate was 6.54±0.19 % and growth of absolute length was 3.49±0.03 cm. Highest survival rate was also achieved by that treatment of 95.24%. Abstrak Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menentukan salinitas dan kadar kalsium optimal pada media pemeliharaan untuk me-ningkatkan pertumbuhan benih ikan tengadak (Barbonymus schwanenfeldii). Rancangan percobaan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap faktorial dengan tiga ulangan. Perlakuan meliputi tiga salinitas media yaitu 0, 3, dan 6 ppt serta empat penambahan kalsium yaitu 0, 10, 20, dan 30 mg L-1. Padat penebaran ikan adalah 1 ekor L-1 dengan rata-rata panjang total 2,00±0,03 cm dan bobot rata-rata awal 0,33±0,05 g. Masa pemeliharaan ikan berlangsung selama 40 hari. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa salinitas media 3 ppt dan penambahan kalsium 20 mg L"1 merupakan media pemeliharan terbaik untuk meningkatkan pertumbuhan benih ikan tengadak dengan laju pertumbuhan bobot rerata harian 6,54±0,19% dan pertumbuhan panjang mutlak 3,49±0,03 cm. Sintasan tertinggi juga ditunjukkan pada perlakuan tersebut yaitu 95,24%.

Abstract

Income of fishers in West Aceh District usually fluctuating, indicate by the small of number of catches of fisherman. Another thing that has a negative impact on the economy fishermens households is the Covid-19 pandemic. Limited land is a problem for fishermen’s families, previously fishermen’s wives drying salted fish to increase their income. One of the tips is to apply fish cultivation technology on limited land with the Integrated Multi-Trophic Aquaculture (IMTA) system. The purpose of this activity is to provide knowledge to a group of fishermen’s wives about fish farming based on the IMTA system. The method used is the socialization of IMTA system fish farming, IMTA system fish pond construction training, production management guidance, training on production performance analysis and marketing strategy, monitoring and evaluation. Integrated fish cultivation training activities for groups of fishermen’s wives received positive support and response from group partners. This activity is very beneficial for houswives because they get new skills to increase economic income. This program is a solution for fishermen’s families during uncertain economic conditions due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This group activity will be an inspiration and model for other fishermen’s wives to do fish farming in limited land and water sources.

Abstract

Plastic waste in the sea is a global problem that directly harms the marine environment (damaging marine ecosystems and threatening the lives of marine organisms), and can indirectly interfere with human health and life. This activity aims to provide knowledge to students at State Elementary School 6 Meulaboh West Aceh about the impact of plastic waste on the marine environment and human life indirectly, as well as instilling an awareness of the importance of keeping the sea clean from an early age. This activity was carried out using the lecture method and interactive discussion with the students of State Elementary School 6 Meulaboh West Aceh. The output of this activity is to increase the awareness of elementary school students about the importance of keeping the marine environment clean and not littering. At the end of the activity, the distribution of tumblers and trash cans was carried out to minimize the use of plastic and provide a garbage disposal container at State Elementary School 6 Meulaboh. With this educational activity, students have been provided with knowledge from an early age about the importance of keeping the marine environment clean from plastic waste, so that in students there is a passion not to throw garbage into the sea or that ends up in the sea because of the large environmental impact that will arise if the polluted sea.

Abstract

This service aims to provide knowledge to students of SMK Negeri 1 Meureubo, West Aceh about the management of parent selection in betta fish hatchery activities. Betta fish was a type of ornamental fish that was very popular among people from the top and bottom as well as from children to adults. If done seriously, betta fish farming has bright prospects and can increase people's income. Betta fish farming can run with minimal capital but produces promising profits. However, in cultivating betta fish, many cultivators encounter various obstacles, especially for beginners. One of the obstacles encountered in the cultivation of betta fish was the hatchery phase. In this phase, beginners find it difficult to choose hickey sires that were ready to be spawned.To overcome the obstacles of hatching betta fish for novice cultivators, this community service program was carried out. The solution offered by this community service was to provided additional skills to students of SMK Negeri 1 Meureubo Meulaboh, West Aceh to be able to select broodstock for good and correct betta fish breeders in accordance with SNI for ornamental betta fish. The service method was a discussion and direct practice of how to select the correct and correct parent betta fish (Betta sp.). The results obtained from the dedication are that the students of SMK Negeri 1 Meureubo Meulaboh, West Aceh were very enthusiastic about breeding ornamental betta fish (Betta sp.) and hope that this community service program can continue to be implemented to provide assistance to students of SMK Negeri 1 Meureubo Meulaboh, Aceh West.
