Abstract

Abstract

This community service research aims to improve the knowledge and skills of Generation Z in Blitar City in organizing funeral prayers according to Islamic law. This activity is motivated by the low understanding of the younger generation regarding the procedures for performing funeral prayers, even though it is part of the fardhu kifayah obligation that should be understood by every Muslim. Through this training activity, it is hoped that Generation Z will have theoretical and practical skills in performing funeral prayers correctly and raise awareness of the importance of social and spiritual responsibility in community life. The method used is Participatory Action Research (PAR) by actively involving participants in two stages of activities, namely providing material on the laws, pillars, and prayers of funeral prayers, as well as direct practice of its implementation guided by competent speakers. The results of the study showed that this training went well and received a positive response from the participants. Based on the results of the pre-test and post-test, there was an average increase in knowledge scores of 42%, which indicates a significant increase in the understanding and skills of participants. Participants were able to explain the pillars, valid conditions, and procedures for funeral prayers correctly. In addition to increasing knowledge, this activity also strengthens religious values, social responsibility, and spiritual awareness among the younger generation. Therefore, this training is effective in shaping a Generation Z that is knowledgeable, moral, and committed to the teachings of Islam in its entirety.

Abstract

Films often serve as a medium of social representation that shapes how audiences understand religious values, culture, and gender relations. This study aims to analyze how female university students, as the audience, respond to the representation of Islamic values, pesantren life, and gender relations in the film Perempuan Berkalung Sorban, as well as to explore the internal meaning-making processes formed and the responses that emerge after watching the film. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with the Stimulus–Organism–Response (SOR) theoretical framework. The film is positioned as the stimulus presenting religious and gender-based representations; the cognitive–affective processes of the female students serve as the organism; and their emotional reactions, attitudes, and behavioral intentions constitute the response. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with seven Muslim female students, and film document analysis. The findings show that the students interpret the film as a critique of the misuse of patriarchal religious interpretations and as a reflection of certain social realities related to gender inequality in pesantren settings and in society. The meaning-making process occurs through comparing normative Islamic values they believe in with the patriarchal social practices portrayed in the film. Audience responses include emotional reactions (anger, sadness, discomfort), changes in attitudes toward gender issues and religious interpretation, and emerging intentions to engage in discussions, express opinions, and promote gender equality in their social environment. This study affirms that film can function as an effective stimulus in shaping audiences’ critical awareness regarding Islamic values, pesantren life, and gender relations.

Abstract

Patriarchal ideology breeds subordination and marginalization of women. Gender awareness is key to eliminating both. This descriptive quantitative study examines Generation Z’s gender awareness of the manifestations of subordination and marginalization. The study involved 200 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires. The study found that generation Z lacks understanding of the manifestations of subordination. This is evident in the majority of respondents who agree that men should be leaders and women should be led. Men should represent the family. Wives are prohibited from working, and all wives activities outside the home must have their husbands permission. Wives must obey their husbands. Generation Z’s awareness of the manifestations of marginalization is better. The majority of respondents disagree that family allowances are only for male workers and that their wages are higher than those of female workers in equivalent jobs. Only a small proportion of respondents agree that men are more suitable as leaders and decision-makers. Only a few respondents agree that women should work at home. The majority of respondents disagree that women are only suitable for unskilled and service-oriented jobs. Socialization to build generation Z’s gender awareness needs to be encouraged for gender justice. Keywords: Gender; Generation Z; Marginalization; Subordination; Women.
