Abstract

Soil termites play a role as  a primary decomposer in natural forests. These types of termites can   be turned into residential pests as more land use to be plantations, housing, and buildings. This study analyzed the distribution of subterranean termites' reproductive caste, its identification, and environmental factors that influence the development of subterranean termites. The research methods used include distribution analysis using UV flying traps, surveys using  GPS, identification of reproductive castes, and environmental factors including  soil  nutrients,  vegetation analysis, temperature, soil moisture, air humidity, and wind speed. The results showed that the distribution of termites is found throughout the Gunungpati Semarang area. The identification of reproductive caste/alates found was Termitidae. Environmental  factors  that  affect the life of termites in the Gunungpati Semarang area December 2019-January 2020 include the temperature of 27.0-28.4 oC, the humidity of 60.2 -61.2 %, air pressure 950.5-975.0 hPa, soil pH 4.84 - 5.60 and soil moisture 29.7-34.0 %. The vegetation was dominated by the Apocynaceae, Sapindaceae, and  Euphorbiaceae. The highest value of diversity and vegetation index sequentially are Sekaran, Patemon, and Ngijo. It is found that the entire Gunungpati area of Semarang is a suitable habitat  for the growth and development of the Termitidae. The finding will help the authoritative institution to consider Gunungpati as a conservation area.

Abstract

AbstractThis study seeks to understand the disaster-prevention consciousness focused on landslide, earthquake, and volcanic eruption among 22 students pursuing a major in Geography in the Social Science Faculty, Semarang State University (UNNES), Indonesia. It analyzed the students’ consciousness through short comments toward questions “What can we do?”, which focused on preventing, defending, reducing, and mitigating the impacts of the three kinds of natural disasters. The average number of the description was 5.7, and the median was 5. More than half of the students mentioned points related to “before disaster and usual life,” “after disaster and restoration,” “hardware/structural,” and “software/non-structural.” All the answers described ideas with reasons. But only four students described ideas based on educational viewpoints, indicating students’ lack of scientific viewpoints in elaborating their ideas about disaster prevention. This finding calls for improving students’ consciousness regarding disaster prevention through education. How to Cite: Yoshinori, F, Tuswadi, Takehiro, H, Tetsuo, I., Subekti, N. (2024). Abstract

Organic waste is the type of waste that has the largest amount in Indonesia. If not managed properly, the organic waste can cause various kinds problem. One of the technologies to overcome this is by means composting using Black Soldier Fly (BSF) larvae. BSF larvae (maggot) has a better decomposition ability compared to organisms as well as other microorganisms. The aims of this research is to determine the most effective substarte that can affect the growth of black soldier larvae and the speed of bioconversion. This research is a quantitative descriptive study with an expreslanatory design. The study uses two variables (independent and dependent). Independent variables in this study are feeding frequency and type of organic waste as substrate. The dependent variables in this study are the speed ofbioconversion and the growth of black soldier larvae. The instruments used in this study are experiment research. The primary Data was obtained from 8 different composition and kind of organic waste. The analysis used is univariate analysis of variance using the SPSS 25.0 application. Results showed that restaurant waste is the most effective waste for reduction by black soldier fly larvae because it produces larvae with the best growth and the highest bioconversion rate among other waste.

Abstract

AbstractAn open environment with drainage and lush green grass around the hotel allows mosquitoes to breed. Mosquitoes from the genus Culex are one of the vectors for transmitting arboviruses and filariasis. Temephos is an active ingredient often used to control Culex quinquefasciatus and considered as environmental pollution. Therefore, it is necessary to develop environmentally friendly larvicides, such as the Bacillus thuringiensis biolarvicide. Many studies were conducted to control Aedes aegypti mosquito larvae using these microbial agents, but very little for controlling Cx. quinquefasciatus mosquito larvae. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of temephos and B. thuringiensis biolarvicides. Cx. quinquefasciatus larvae were divided into the insect sample group with temephos and the B. thuringiensis biolarvicide group at concentrations of 0.01, 0.02, and 0.03 mg/L. The number of dead larvae was calculated at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 24 hours. Data analysis was performed using probit analysis of lethal time (LT50 and LT90). From statistical analysis, B. thuringiensis as larvicides showed 100% mortality of mosquito larvae. B. thuringiensis biolarvicide can be used as a substitute for chemical larvicide since it is proven effective in killing Cx. quinquefasciatus mosquito larvae in 24 hours and is environmentally friendly.

Abstract

Citrus are a horticultural commodity that has high economic value and tends to be liked by many people. In the Bawen area, Semarang Regency, there is a plantation that cultivates various types of orange plants. Many citrus plants have signs of pest attacks that have not yet been identified. This research aims to obtain data related to insect diversity and the level of damage caused by insect pest attacks on citrus plants. This research is an exploratory type of research, using a survey method. The research location was determined using purposive sampling by taking three fields of Siam Honey, Sumowono and Pamello oranges. Insect sampling was carried out using pitfall trap, yellow trap, direct observation and interviews. The results of the study showed that the diversity index was H' = 3.3, honey siam = 3.3, pamello orange (H' = 3.1) and sumowono siam (H' = 2.9). The similarity value of the three types of orange is 0.8 and the dominance is 0.05 (honey siamese), 0.06 (pamello) and 0.07 (sumowono). At the time of research, orange plants were in the generative phase so they could attract more insects. The level of damage due to pest attacks is classified as moderate. The conclusion of this research is that the highest species diversity value is Siam Honey, then Pamello orange and Siam Sumowono, the presence of insects is evenly distributed and no one species dominates. The benefit of this research is to obtain information regarding the diversity of insect types and the level of damage caused by insect pest attacks.
