Abstract

Language serves as a symbolic system used by humans to communicate, express thoughts and emotions, and convey information. In the era of digital technology, social media has become an interactive space that fosters the emergence and development of new forms of language, one of which is slang. This study aims to describe the forms, functions, and meanings of slang variations found in the comment sections of YouTube channels owned by @DeddyCorbuzier and @DennySumargo. The research employs a descriptive qualitative method, using documentation and observation techniques to collect user comments from January 1 to March 31, 2025. The findings reveal that the forms of slang identified include acronyms, abbreviations, phonetic spellings, borrowings from foreign languages, and the creation of new lexical items. The primary functions of slang use involve emotional expression, social critique, group identity markers, and communicative efficiency. Semantically, slang often undergoes symbolic shifts or takes on metaphorical meanings, depending on the user's social context. Slang in social media reflects the dynamic nature of language and embodies the identity and cultural practices of digital communitie

Abstract

This study analyzes the sociolinguistic phenomenon of mixed language use in digital preaching. The study focuses on the communication styles of two well-known preachers, Ustaz Hanan Attaki (UHA) and Ustaz Felix Siauw (UFS), on YouTube. The aim of this study is to describe the types, reasons, functions, and comparisons of mixed language use by these two figures. The approach used was descriptive qualitative, with data analysis methods consisting of speech in video lectures on their official channels. The research findings identified 72 data points related to mixed language, consisting of five types: word insertion, phrase insertion, clause insertion, word repetition, and bastering. The most common types were word insertion and clause insertion. Reasons for code-mixing include the use of more easily understood popular terms, the connection of themes to references from the Quran and Hadith, the speakers' backgrounds, and efforts to adapt to audiences from millennials and Gen Z. Functionally, code-mixing is used to facilitate communication, create a more relaxed atmosphere, and explain Islamic concepts that are difficult to find equivalents in Indonesian. Comparatively, UHA tends to use Arabic code-mixing more often for spiritual matters, while UFS uses English more for aspects of logic and modern lifestyle. The research concludes that code-mixing is a flexible sociolinguistic strategy for connecting sacred religious messages with the current social dynamics of audiences.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the characteristics, contributing factors, and impacts of a language acquisition delay (speech delay) experienced by Kenzo, a six-year-old boy in Nagari Sunur, Padang Pariaman Regency, and to formulate its implications for early childhood education. This research employs a qualitative approach using a single case study method. Data were collected through participatory observation, in-depth interviews with the subject's mother and teacher, and documentation of speech recordings, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The findings show that Kenzo's language delay appears across all linguistic levels: sound substitution and elision at the phonological level, absence of quantity markers at the morphological level, single-word-dominated utterances with a mean length of utterance (MLU) of 1.33 words at the syntactic level, accurate lexical meaning not yet developed into compositional meaning at the semantic level, and reliance on gestures with delayed responses at the pragmatic level. Contributing factors include the child's low self-confidence (internal) as well as limited verbal interaction at home, passive gadget use, and restricted peer interaction (external). These conditions affect Kenzo's communication ability, social interaction, self-confidence, and participation in learning. The study recommends strengthening early detection, verbally rich teaching strategies, and school–parent partnerships as a comprehensive response within early childhood education settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of figurative language and intertextual relationships in the poetry anthology Marhaban Ya Ramadan by Ahmadun Yosi Herfanda and the poetry anthology Etnik Nusantara by Asrizal Nur. This study employed a qualitative descriptive approach using content analysis. The research data consisted of words, phrases, lines, and stanzas in selected poems that indicate the use of figurative language and intertextual relationships. The data sources were the poetry anthologies Marhaban Ya Ramadan and Etnik Nusantara. The analysis was conducted by identifying forms of figurative language, interpreting the meanings constructed through their use, and examining intertextual relationships through the aspects of similarity, transformation, and absorption of textual elements. The findings indicate that figurative language in Marhaban Ya Ramadan is dominated by metaphor, personification, symbolism, repetition, hyperbole, and simile. These forms of figurative language are used to represent spiritual experiences, self-purification, faith, prayer, forgiveness, and reflection on the month of Ramadan. Meanwhile, figurative language in Etnik Nusantara is dominated by personification, metaphor, symbolism, simile, repetition, and hyperbole, which are employed to represent ethnic identity, history, customs, traditions, community life, and the natural richness of the Indonesian archipelago. From an intertextual perspective, Marhaban Ya Ramadan demonstrates strong relationships with Islamic religious texts, particularly the Qur'an, hadith, and Islamic traditions, whereas Etnik Nusantara demonstrates relationships with cultural and historical texts, customs, oral traditions, regional languages, and local wisdom of Indonesian communities. These relationships are manifested through similarities in themes, symbols, imagery, and figurative language, as well as through processes of textual transformation and absorption. The study demonstrates that figurative language functions not only as an aesthetic element but also as a medium for transforming religious and cultural values into literary expressions. Thus, both anthologies demonstrate that poetry serves as a dialogical space connecting literary texts with religion, culture, history, and the collective experiences of society.
