Abstract

Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) infection is most common in children because they like to play without paying attention to the cleanliness of the playground and their personal hygiene. World Health Organization (WHO) reported around 24% of the world’s population are infected with STH infections worldwide and the prevalence in Indonesia ranging of 2,5-62%. STH is caused by many factors, including personal hygiene, which is handwashing habit, nail hygiene habit, foot-wear wearing habit. The aim of this study is to find out the relationship between personal hygiene with the incidence of helminthiasis in elementary school-age children. This study is a literature review and journals as the samples of this research obtained from Scopus and Google Scholar, found 36 national journals and 5 international journals. There were 38 journals that study the relationship between handwashing habit and STH infection, 27 journals wrote that the they were related, while 11 journals wrote not. There were 31 journals that study the relationship between nail hygiene habits and STH infection, 20 journals wrote that the they were related, while 11 journals wrote not. There were 35 journals that study the relationship between the habit of using footwear and STH infection, 18 journals wrote that the they were related, while 17 journals wrote not. The STH that commonly infect are Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, and Hookworms. There was a correlation between personal hygiene and the infection of STH among elementary school-age children, and the most common STH that caused infection is Ascaris lumbricoides.

Abstract

. In tropical nations like Indonesia, mosquitoes serve as carriers of viruses and parasites that can infect humans. Finding out which mosquito larvae species were present and where in Banama Tingang District—particularly in Lawang Uru Village—was the study's main goal. Descriptive survey research using simple random sampling methodology is what this study is. All of the mosquito larvae used in this study were collected from Lawang Uru Village. In residential areas, larvae are collected. Descriptive survey research using simple random sampling methodology is what this study is. Abstract

Soil Transmitted Helminths (STH) are a group of intestinal nematode parasites that cause infection in humans, particularly children with poor hygiene. Ascaris lumbricoides, one of the most common intestinal nematodes, can be spread through infective eggs consumed with contaminated food or drink, as well as through dirty hands due to contaminated soil containing infective eggs. This study aims to determine the relationship between personal hygiene and worms in grade 3-5 children at SDN 1 Pahandut Seberang, Palangka Raya City. This research was conducted using the analytical observational research method with a cross sectional approach. The sample used was 41 students from grades 3-5 of SDN 1 Pahandut Seberang. This study revealed that 23 students (56.1%) had good personal cleanliness, while 18 students (43.9%) had poor personal hygiene. Two pupils (4.9%) tested positive for helminthiasis out of a total of 39 students (95.1%). According to the Fisher's Exact test, the obtained findings were p = 0.187. There is no significant correlation between personal hygiene and worm infestation.

Abstract

Diarrhea is defined as defecation with unformed stools or liquid with a frequency of more than 3 times in 24 hours.  Water can be a source of disease, this is due to disease vectors, especially diarrheal diseases, which can multiply and be transmitted through water.  The source of drinking water in the Lower Murjani Settlement area is sourced from drilled wells which are consumed by boiling first and refilling gallons of water. This study aims to determine the bacteriological relationship between the source of drinking water and the quality of drinking water on the incidence of diarrhea in children in the Lower Murjani Settlement area of Palangka Raya City. This type of research is an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design.  The sample size of 45 children was determined by purposive sampling method.  Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square statistical test. Shows that there is a relationship between the source of drinking water and the quality of drinking water on the incidence of diarrhea in children. There is a relationship between the source of drinking water and the quality of drinking water in bacteriological terms with the incidence of diarrhea in children in the Murjani Bawah residential area in the city of Palangka Raya.

Abstract

Haemonchosis is an infection caused by the Haemonchus contortus worm, a blood-sucking gastrointestinal parasite that can also infect humans. Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves have been shown to have anthelmintic activity due to the presence of saponins, flavonoids, and tannins. This study aimed to determine the anthelmintic activity of ethanol extract of Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves against H. contortus. The infective H. contortus larvae were divided into six treatment groups: a 0.5% ethanol extract concentration group, a 1% ethanol extract concentration group, a 2% ethanol extract concentration group, a 4% ethanol extract concentration group, a positive control group (+), and a negative control group (-), each with four replicates. The study was conducted in six hours, with observations made at the 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 6th hours. The results showed that the death of the larvae increased with higher ethanol extract concentrations and longer exposure to the ethanol extract of Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves. The time of death for infective H. contortus larvae given the ethanol extract of Orthosiphon aristatus (Blume) Miq leaves was at the 4th hour, and the effective dose of the ethanol extract as an anthelmintic was at the concentration of 0.5%. Keywords: Anthelmintic, Haemonchus contortus, Orthosiphon aristatus

This study aims to determine the identification of the cause of the infection of STH (Soil Transmitted Helminth) inthe Tresna Werdha Sinta Rangkang Tangkiling Social Institution. This study approach used 34 respondents, which was obtained by purposive sampling technique. From the results of fecal research conducted by the elderly, no worms were found. Abstract

The occurrence of falls among the elderly is a result of the aging process, which can lead to injuries and physical limitations. A history of falls, gender, and nutritional status are estimated to influence the risk of falling. To evaluate the relationship between a history of falls, gender, and nutritional status and the results of the TUGT using a descriptive analytical design with a cross-sectional approach, the study sample consisted of 30 elderly people. Data analysis was performed using SPSS software, applying Fisher’s Exact Test and Spearman correlation tests. There is a relationship between a history of falls and nutritional status and the results of the TUGT in the elderly with p-value = 0,000. However, no significant relationship was found between gender and the results of the TUGT. This study provides evidence that a history of falls and nutritional status influence balance in the elderly.

Abstract

Scabies is a skin infection caused by the Sarcoptes scabiei mite. The main symptom experienced during a scabies infestation is nighttime itching (pruritus nocturna), accompanied by skin lesions in the form of burrows (kunikulus) at preferred sites. This study aims to determine the prevalence of scabies among students (santri) and identify potential animal reservoirs in Islamic boarding schools in the city of Palangka Raya. A Quantitative descriptive with cross-sectional design. Sampling was taken using a total sampling technique and skin scraping method and the samples obtained were examined using a microscope with 40x magnification. This research was conducted at the Hidayatul Insan, Darul Amin, Al-Wafa, Manba'u Darissalam, and Nurul Ihsan Islamic boarding schools. The samples in this study were students from 5 Islamic boarding schools totaling 142 students and reservoir animals in Palangka Raya City Islamic Boarding Schools.
