Abstract

Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) are the backbone of the economy in many countries, including Indonesia. MSMEs make significant contributions to job creation, local economies, and social stability. However, many MSMEs face significant challenges in managing supply chains, product distribution, and marketing, which often hinder their growth potential. The digitalization of MSME systems emerges as a solution to address these issues, as technology enables automation, operational efficiency, and expanded market access. This article explores the concept of a sustainable business model that integrates digitalization into MSME operational systems and its impact on profitability. The main focus of this study is on how digital technology can improve efficiency, open new markets, and drive long-term sustainability. By including case analyses, data, and relevant illustrations, this article aims to provide practical insights for MSMEs to optimize their digitalization efforts for higher profitability.

Abstract

Abstract

The plastics recycling industry plays a vital role in reducing the environmental impact of plastic waste. However, challenges such as high operating costs and low profit margins are hindering its growth. This article explores the application of lean production systems as a potential solution to improve operational efficiency and profitability in this industry. By reducing waste at various stages of production, such as energy consumption, raw materials and production time, lean has been shown to reduce operating costs by up to 10% in large-scale production. In addition, Lean enables companies to increase production capacity without significantly increasing costs. Despite the challenges associated with initial investment and organisational culture change, the long-term benefits of implementing Lean, such as increased profit margins and competitiveness, make it a highly relevant strategy for the plastics recycling industry.

Abstract

The prior of research have shown that the framing effect is one of determinant in explaining decisions to escalate commitment to failing projects. However , have not considered whether experience moderates the framing effect on escalation of commitment. This study reports the results of an experiment in which the effect of decision frame of investment performance with negative feedback informatian on judgment to continue project of experienced subjects is compared to inexperienced subjects. Forty six Aceh experienced managers and forty seven accounting students participated in this experiment. Two conditions based on prospect theory (negative framing and positive framing) manipulated, and two conditions of business experience, crossed between subjects. The experiment reaffirms that decision frame does not have effect on judgment of experienced subject but those frame indeed have effect on judgment to continue project of inexperienced subjects. The result of this research suggest that framing effect as drawn from prospect theory is one of explanatory power of escalation of commitment, but it can not generalized to real-world business settings.

Abstract

Blockchain technology has developed rapidly in recent years and is considered a promising solution for increasing security and transparency in financial transactions. Originally developed to support cryptocurrencies such as Bitcoin, blockchain is now being applied across various sectors, including banking and finance. This paper explores the role of blockchain technology in improving financial transaction systems, focusing on its ability to enhance security and transparency, thereby boosting user trust. It also examines the application of blockchain in Indonesia's financial sector, highlighting both the challenges and opportunities the country faces in adopting this technology. The methodology used in this study includes a qualitative analysis of existing literature on blockchain technology, case studies of its implementation in global financial systems, and an assessment of the regulatory landscape in Indonesia. The paper also discusses interviews with industry experts and stakeholders to gather insights into the practical challenges of blockchain adoption in the Indonesian financial sector. This research concludes with an analysis of blockchain's potential to revolutionize the global financial system, offering recommendations for its successful integration into Indonesia’s financial ecosystem.

Abstract

The integration of digital innovation in the plastic recycling industry has become a strategic step to enhance efficiency, transparency, and competitiveness amid complex waste management challenges. This study employs a literature review approach to examine the potential implementation of digital technologies, including cloud-based financial systems, real-time logistics tracking, and e-wallet applications, to support financial management and distribution processes in the recycling sector. The findings indicate that digitalization has the potential to reduce operational costs by up to 25%, expedite financial reporting, and enhance investor confidence. Nevertheless, challenges persist, including inadequate digital literacy, deficient infrastructure, and resistance to change. The strategic recommendations encompass the provision of fiscal incentives, the implementation of continuous technical training, and the development of data-driven financing ecosystems. Digitalization has the potential to transform the plastic recycling industry by facilitating the transition to a more professional, inclusive, and sustainable system. This transition can be facilitated by collaborative support from government entities, industry leaders, fintech companies, and research institutions.

Abstract

This article examines the role of process innovation in improving operational efficiency within the plastic recycling industry, particularly among small and medium enterprises (SMEs). Operational efficiency serves as a key factor in ensuring both sustainability and profitability amid growing environmental concerns and the global shift toward a circular economy. Through an extensive literature review of international sources, this study highlights how the adoption of technologies such as sensor-based automatic sorting systems, energy-efficient washing, the Internet of Things (IoT), and supply chain digitalization can reduce production costs, enhance product quality, and increase production capacity. However, findings also indicate that several challenges persist, including limited investment capital, low technological literacy, infrastructural disparities, and regulatory uncertainty. Therefore, the success of process innovation in the recycling industry depends heavily on collaborative support from governments, research institutions, industry associations, and NGOs. This paper contributes both theoretically and practically by proposing a conceptual framework that links process innovation, operational efficiency, and sustainability, serving as a foundation for strengthening SMEs toward an inclusive and competitive green industry
