Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has had a major socio-economic impact on the community, especially the decline in income and job losses. The urgency of economic needs makes people make online loans that are illegal and have very high interest rates. The lack of public knowledge about licensed and illegal online loans has resulted in debtors being trapped in large debts and spreading personal data. Considering that rural communities who have low levels of education and knowledge are victims of prize draw scams which are disseminated via short message service (SMS) and telephone calls. Therefore, there is a need for socialization about illegal online loans and prize draw fraud to the community, especially village communities. The purpose of this service activity is to increase public awareness and knowledge about the legality of online loan services and prize draw fraud. After this service was carried out, the community in Kerinjing Village had knowledge about the legality of online loans, prevention and overcoming of online loans as well as vigilance against prize draw fraud via SMS and telephone. After the community service activities were carried out, it was found that 100% of the community understood illegal online borrowing and raffle prizes via telephone and SMS.

Abstract

This study investigates the determinants of labor migration from Sumatra Island, focusing on key factors such as per capita income, provincial minimum wage, unemployment rates, and education levels. Using panel data from 2017 to 2021 across ten provinces, the analysis employs a random effects model to assess these variables' impact on migration patterns. The results reveal that the provincial minimum wage significantly influences labor migration, while per capita income, unemployment rates, and education levels do not show a substantial effect. Despite relatively higher wages in provinces such as Riau and West Sumatra, economic instability persists, prompting workers to seek better opportunities abroad. These findings emphasize the pivotal role of wage disparities in driving labor migration from Sumatra, particularly toward international labor markets, underscoring the need for more equitable economic policies to mitigate the pressures of outbound migration.

Abstract

This study highlights the urgent need to empower the youth generation to actively engage in the international community in addressing sustainability challenges. Issues such as climate change, social inequality, and food security require innovative solutions driven by young people. This community service initiative was designed to enhance youth participation through education, collaboration, and digital engagement. The program was conducted virtually via Zoom and involved participants from Sriwijaya University, Indonesia; Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Kazakhstan; and ENS Lyon, France. The primary objective of this initiative was to equip youth with essential skills, knowledge, and attitudes necessary for contributing to sustainable development. The methodology employed included online workshops, interactive discussions, and collaborative projects focusing on sustainability practices. During the implementation phase, participants engaged in knowledge-sharing sessions, case study analyses, and social media campaigns to promote awareness and collective action. The results indicated that youth empowerment through targeted training and cross-border collaboration significantly enhances their capacity to address global issues effectively. The program demonstrated the role of digital technology and international networking in fostering sustainable practices among young individuals. Future initiatives should expand to include more diverse participants and incorporate hands-on community projects to further strengthen youth contributions to global sustainability efforts.

Abstract

Purpose: This study examines several factors that may affect audit report lag, including CEO ethnicity, ownership concentration, and the number of audit committee meetings among LQ 45 companies in Indonesia from 2019 to 2022. Methods: This study employed a quantitative descriptive method to examine the relationships between variables, including the partial effects. SPSS was used as the statistical analysis tool to conduct descriptive statistics, assess assumption classifications, perform regression analysis of the research model, and test hypotheses using partial tests and the coefficient of determination. Results: The results of this study indicate that the CEO ethnicity and audit committee variables do not significantly affect audit report lag. However, the audit committee variable partially has a significant influence on audit report lag. Conclusion: CEO ethnicity does not significantly affect audit report lag. In contrast, ownership concentration significantly affects audit report lags. Furthermore, the audit committee variable does not significantly affect the audit report lag. Limitation: Audit Report Lag can reduce the usefulness and reliability of financial reports for users. There is a lack of references to these variables, especially the rarely studied ethnic variables. This study contributes to the literature by examining the relationship between the ethnicity and race of CEOs at LQ 45 companies as the research subject. Contributions: This study contributes to the audit literature by providing empirical evidence of the influence of CEO ethnicity, ownership concentration, and audit committee activities on audit report lag, specifically within LQ45 companies in Indonesia, highlighting the unique role of ethnic diversity in corporate governance contexts.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of demographic factors, particularly declining fertility rates and an aging population, on Japan’s economic growth from 1960 to 2022. Additionally, it analyzes key macroeconomic variables, including healthcare expenditure, interest rates, and inflation, that influence the country’s economy. Using quantitative time-series data and the Vector Error Correction Model (VECM), this research evaluates the short- and long-term effects of these variables on economic growth. The findings indicate that, in the long run, population aging and high interest rates significantly negatively affect economic growth. In contrast, healthcare expenditure and moderate inflation have a positive impact. Population aging slows economic expansion by increasing pension and healthcare costs, while high interest rates discourage investment and consumption. Conversely, healthcare expenditure, as an investment in human capital, enhances labor productivity, and moderate inflation stimulates economic activity by promoting consumption and investment. However, in the short term, none of these variables exhibit a significant impact on economic growth, suggesting that policy measures and demographic changes require time to influence the broader economy.

Abstract

With the advancement of digital technology, MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises) encounter numerous challenges and opportunities in emerging and especially disadvantaged economies. This case study focuses on the design of a community driven initiative which aims at transforming the entrepreneurial capacity of MSMEs around the Final Disposal Site (FDS) II Karya Jaya in Palembang, Indonesia by integrating the fostering of digital skills with market adaptability. A PAR (Participatory Action Research) approach was used with 30 microenterprises, predominantly women led, who participated in a series of digital marketing workshops which emphasized the use of problem solving and co-designing. The participants completed the workshops, which focused on developing entrepreneurial mindsets, social media and e-commerce, digital payment systems, branding, and package design, over a period of twenty hours. The participants observations showed that 86.67% of the participants showed greater awareness of digital marketing tools and 90% expressed increased confidence in the use of the tools as a result of the training.  After the training,  and in a period of follow up monitoring with 22 participants, a 20% increase in online visibility, engagement and in the identification of products was recorded. Besides supporting learners to develop their skills individually, the iniative improved social capital by accelerating collective agency within peer learning networks and emerging local leadership which is essential for community transformation. It demonstrates the potential of the digital record empowerment practices to narrow the digital divide, enhance the resilience of entrepreneurs, and widen the net of inclusive and equitable economic growth support to marginalized micro, small and medium enterprises in the developing world.
