Abstract

Siam citrus peel (Citrus nobilis L. var. Microcarpa) is a plant derived from Sambas Regency, West Kalimantan Province. Bioavailability of herbal active compounds can be enhanced by formulating extract into nanoparticle. The polymer used was chitosan with crosslinker Na-TPP. Stirring speed and stirring time play an important role to produce small particle size in forming nanoparticle using ionic gelation method. Enhancement of stirring speed and stirring time could reduce particle size. Nanoparticles were prepared using ionic gelation method by mixing Na-TPP, extract and chitosan (1:1:6) with varying the stirring speed 500 rpm, 1000 rpm, 1500 rpm and stirring time 1 hrs, 2 hrs, 3 hrs. The particle size of nanoparticle was found to be 85.3 nm at 1000 rpm of stirring speed and 3 hrs of stirring times, with polidispersity index 0.287, zeta potential +32.37 mV and entrapment efficiency 87.12 %.

Abstract

The combination of Snakehead Fish and Kelulut Honey has activity in accelerating the wound healing process. The ointment with active ingredients of Snakehead Fish extract and Kelulut Honey showed separation from the active ingredient and its base. The addition of tween 80 and span 80 is expected to increase the stability of the ointment preparation by keeping the water-phase droplets distributed uniformly on the ointment base. This study aimed to determine the effect of adding Tween 80 and Span 80 on the stability of the ointment preparation. The ointment was made by varying Tween 80 and span 80 by 2,5%: 5%: 7,5% and control (active ingredients without the addition of tween 80 and Span 80) as a comparison. The preparation was subjected to an accelerated stability test using a temperature of 40 ° ± 2 ° C / Relative humidity 75% ± 5% for 28 days by observing the organoleptic test, adhesion, spreadability, homogeneity test, pH test, and protection power. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using One Way Anova. The analysis showed that the addition of tween 80 and span 80 with a total concentration of 5% and 7,5% had a significant effect in increasing the spreadability, decreasing adhesion, and reducing the pH of the preparation. Formulas that meet the requirements in this study are F2 and F3, which have an average spreadability of 5,11 cm and 5,25 cm, adhesion of 96 seconds and 51 seconds, and pH of 6,02 and 5,02.

Abstract

The oil phase of adeps lanae was used as a basis in the ointment formulation with snakehead fish extract and kelulut honey, which influences wound healing. Adeps lanae has the potential to become rancid due to the high water content in it (25-30%). The use of oil-soluble antioxidants such as Butyl Hydroxy Toluene (BHT) can overcome the rancidity in oil. This study aimed to see how adding BHT as an antioxidant affects the ointment's stability. The ointment is prepared in three different BHT concentrations: F1 (0.0075%), F2 (0.05%), F3 (0.1%), and a control for comparison. Organoleptic tests, homogeneity, spreadability, adhesion, protection power, and acid number were used to evaluate the stability of the preparation over 28 days at 40 ± 2°C / RH 75 ± 5%. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using One Way ANOVA. The addition of BHT affected the preparation's spreadability, adhesion, and acid number but did not affect the organoleptic, homogeneity, or protective power. At F3, there is a significant difference in spreadability (5.57 ± 0.21 cm) and adhesion (89.00±2.00 seconds) based on statistical analysis. F3 is the best ointment based on the physical characteristics test results and the minimum increase in acid number (8.83 mg KOH/g).
