Abstract

Based on the results of research, snakehead fish extract and kelulut honey have properties to make wounds heal faster. Ointment with an active formulation of snakehead fish extract and extract of kelulut honey showed an oxidation process that could make the preparation rancid. The addition of BHA and Vitamin C is expected to prevent the oxidation process so that the preparation does not become rancid. This study aims to determine the effect of adding Antioxidant BHA and Vitamin C in preventing the oxidation process of the ointment in the aqueous phase of extracts of snakehead fish (Channa Striata)and of kelulut honey (Heterotrigona Itama) at 28 days storage. Stability was accelerated at a temperature of 40 ± 20ºC and a RH of 75 ± 5%. Variations in the concentration ofiBHA and Vitamin C used were BHA.0.02. : Vitamin C 0.1, BHA 0.02 : Vitamin C 0.01, BHA 0.005 : Vitamin C 0.01, and BHA 0.005 : Vitamin C 0.1 then tested the physical properties of the ointment, namely through organoleptic test, homogeneity test, spreadability test, adhesion test, protection test and acid number test which were then analyzed by SPSS. Based on the analysis of the scattering power showed a significant difference between F0, F1, and F3. The results of the adhesion analysis showed that there were significant differences in each formula. Furthermore, the results of the stability test showed that all formulas had good physical stability. Conclusion: F1 is a very good formula to prevent oxidation in the preparation as evidenced by a decreased acid number, which is 9.62 mg KOH/g.

Abstract

Kelulut honey and snakehead fish extract have been demonstrated to improve wound healing, hence the two active components are combined in ointment formulations. Adeps lanae is a base that is included in the oil phase that undergo an oxidation process that causes rancidity in the ointment preparation, so in this study BHA and BHT antioxidants were added to suppress the oxidation process. The ointment was made with 5 concentrations consisting of 1 control group and 4 treatment groups which were given variations of BHA and BHT antioxidants. Organoleptic testing, homogeneity, adhesion, dispersion, protection, and acid numbers were all evaluated. SPSS 24 is used to test data related to adhesion, and dispersion. Results: The addition of antioxidants BHA and BHT based on acid number tests revealed that the higher the combination of antioxidants employed, the less the increase in acid numbers on day 28. The organoleptic test, homogeneity, protection, and adhesion on the preparation fulfilled the test criteria, whereas the adhesion test revealed significant differences in F1, F2, and F4 when compared to the control group. The optimum formula is F4, which fits the test parameters and has the minimum rise in acid number (9.22 mg KOH/g).

Abstract

Snakehead fish extract has been recognized for its potential in healing postoperative wounds and burns. The extract contains albumin, which aids in tissue formation and healing processes. To create a high-quality wound healing drug, the extract needs to be formulated into a concentrated form and combined with a solvent that can effectively dissolve its active substances. Understanding the solubility profile of the extract and the composition of the solvent is crucial for this purpose. This study aims to determine the solubility profile of the aqueous phase concentrate of snakehead fish extract in an organic co-solvent. Solubility is an important parameter as it can impact the release rate and therapeutic effectiveness of the drug. A solubility test was conducted to assess the solubility of the aqueous phase concentrate in various solvents. The results of the solubility test indicated that the aqueous phase concentrate of snakehead fish extract exhibited good solubility in aquadest (20%), slight solubility in propylene glycol (8.5%) and honey (2%), and was insoluble in ethanol, glycerin, mannitol, and sorbitol (0%).
