Abstract

Abstract

Parametric design is a new architectural design approach which is developing for the last decade. This development is supported by the advance of digital architecture technology, allowing designers to engage in complex geometry modelling and design optimization efficiently using parametric design software. One of parametric design software, Rhinoceros-Grasshopper, has been interconnected to several building simulation packages, which gives new usefulness for architectural design process. Parametric design is likely to be a standard skill that should be possessed by Architect in the future. This study discusses parametric design application for architectural design process and its trend for the context of architectural education in Indonesia. It aims to give a strategy and model instruction for parametric design teaching, especially in the university level. Literature review and Youtube Channel exploration were conducted to discuss the implementation of parametric design. In order to examine the trend of parametric design in Indonesia, the data analysis was conducted based on channel analytics from one of Youtube channel promoting parametric design and survey aiming architecture lecturer.

Abstract

Population growth, increased housing requirements, and a lack of available land in urban areas motivate developers to construct vertical housing. Vertical occupancy reduces social interaction between occupants, leading to the development of individualistic characteristics. This is due to the fact that the design does not encourage inhabitants to interact with one another. This research seeks to identify the design criteria necessary to construct a social structure in a vertical residence. This study's methodology consisted of three stages: data collection, analysis, and synthesis. Where quantitative and qualitative data are collected using a combined research methodology. Retrieve quantitative data through questionnaires to ascertain the social interaction habits of vertical occupancy users. While qualitative methods, such as literature and precedent studies, such as Home Farm Singapore and The Rosebay Surabaya, are used to identify existing issues. The analysis phase consists of descriptive statistics to interpret the questionnaire results, as well as a description of the analysis based on the research variables used, such as accessibility, users, individuality, adaptability, and others. The results of the synthesis phase will be design criteria that can enhance the social value of vertical housing

Abstract

Abstract

Royal Plaza Mall Surabaya experiences significant increases in visitor numbers during weekends and holiday seasons. This tendency is leading to circulation congestion and limited accessibility. This study analyzes the relationships among circulation patterns, visitor accessibility, and public space comfort using a mixed-methods approach with a convergent parallel design. Quantitative data were obtained through escalator and elevator capacity evaluations using the Handling Capacity and Round Trip Time methods. Qualitative data were collected through field observations and thematic analysis supported by relevant literature. The findings indicate that the mall employs grid, linear, and radial circulation patterns; however, several areas, such as the 3rd-floor corridor, do not meet the required width for wheelchair users. Although escalators provide adequate capacity at 405,288 people/hour, the elevator capacity of 1,069 people/hour is insufficient during peak periods, requiring an additional 2-3 units. Furthermore, the accessibility design does not fully comply with PUPR standards, including the absence of a ramp at the main lobby. These results highlight the importance of integrating circulation patterns with accessible design to create a comfortable and inclusive public space.
