Abstract

Stunting has still been a primary target of the worldwide health agenda—external determinants such as economic, demographic, and environmental factors are the major causes. From now on, both external and internal factors are referred to as "nutritional ecologies". This research aims to examine the nutritional ecologies of stunting in a village-based tourist destination, namely Sigerongan Village of West Lombok, through several steps – (1) identifying factors leading to stunting in the village, (2) formulating the primary drive of the prevalence of stunting, (3) developing a model of free-stunting village-based tourism, and (4) proposing social and cultural interventions to tackle the stunting issue. This longitudinal study employs several methods, especially prototypical research and reflective analysis. The data analyses were chi-square and fisher test exact test to examine the relationships among variables. The intervention model is generated and named "Dewi Santi," which is the acronym for "Desa Wisata Tahan Stunting" or "Stunting-Free Village-based Tourism" model. The complex nature of stunting requires an ecological approach that includes nutritional ecologies so that it is translatable into practice and can be rooted in a particular culture whereby the prevalence is high. However, this study's limitation lies in its design, which was only tried to examine the nutritional problem, and research design can be broadened and varied for future studies.

Abstract

Feed plays a very important role in livestock business, both in terms of quality, quantity, and continuous availability. The biggest obstacle for farmers in running their business is the increasingly expensive feed price. Among the many alternatives in producing animal feed, insects are an alternative source of protein that can be used in animal feed. Maggot or larvae of the black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) is a feed substitute as a source of protein. Market chain is a chain that is used to describe a number of networks that connect all related actors and transactions that occur in the movement of agricultural or livestock goods to final consumers (Lundy.et al, 2004:15). The purpose of this activity is to educate livestock groups in the promotive aspect to increase knowledge and apply it in marketing activities for maggot cultivation. Community service activities in the form of marketing counseling for maggot (maggots) cultivation as an alternative to animal feed in Mataram City were carried out on Saturday, August 21, 2021. This community service activity was carried out through counseling on discussion methods and presentations through lectures. Counseling is in the form of mapping the marketing of maggot and its impact if it is mass-cultivated. After giving the material, it was followed by discussion and question and answer from the participants.

In West Lombok Regency, especially in East Mareje Village, Selamat District, the chili plants that are widely cultivated are large chili plants and chili pepper plants (Capsicum annum L). The two types of chili plants have price differences and high price fluctuations, due to differences in the use and availability of production of the two types of chili plants in the market. Therefore, research has been conducted which aims to determine the amount of income of large chili and chili farms, whether the income of large chili farms is higher than the income of chili farms, and whether the obstacles faced in the cultivation of large chili and chili peppers. In this study, the research methods and techniques used are comparative methods and direct interview techniques based on a list of questions that have been provided. The sample of respondent farmers was taken using the proportional random sampling method, where 30 people were taken from the large chili plant farms and 30 people were taken from the curly chili farms so that the number of respondents was 60 people. The results showed that the average income of large chili farms was IDR 5,309,000/LG or IDR 97,135,044/Ha, while the average income of curly chili farms was IDR 3,566,000/LG or IDR 70,542,331/Ha. The t-test results show that the equal variances are assumedobtained sign value. 0.00 is smaller than the significance value of the hypothesis test (0.05). This shows that Ho is rejected or H1 is accepted, which means that the average income of large chili farms is higher than curly chili.
