Abstract

The majority of the population in Indonesia is of Islamic faith. Hajj is a form of worship in Islam with its own rules and regulations, consisting of conditions and pillars that must be performed perfectly. However, in reality, many Indonesian pilgrims still don't fully understand the procedures of Hajj. Therefore, one solution to overcome the limitations of the required media for learning Hajj rituals is by combining the Android platform and Augmented Reality technology. Augmented Reality (AR) involves the virtualization of digital information or computer-generated content such as audio, video, images, and touch, making it seem as though they exist in the real-world environment. Augmented reality finds applications in various fields, particularly in education, such as the Hajj pilgrimage rituals. By merging real and virtual objects, 3D objects are displayed using markers. These markers, detected by Android smartphone cameras, display their corresponding 3D objects during the Hajj rituals. This is the foundation for researchers to implement a learning method for Hajj rituals using Android-based smartphones with Augmented Reality technology. Using smartphones makes it more convenient and flexible, and by incorporating Augmented Reality technology, it adds an interesting and enjoyable element to the learning process. The objective of this research is to implement augmented reality technology, particularly for Hajj pilgrims, in order to assist them in comprehending the methods of performing the Hajj pilgrimage in an engaging and easily understandable manner. The application allows users to view animated video models and textual explanations of the Hajj rituals.

Improving sstudents’ speaking skills with greeting materials using ice breaking technique at the 7th Class B SMP Quba Sorong City. enhance English-speaking skills among 7th-grade students at SMP Quba, Sorong City. The research was conducted on May 20, 2024, following a pre-research phase during a field practice program from August to October 2023. The teacher modified the materials focusing on greetings, and implemented a technique termed “ice breaking.” This technique was performed at the beginning of each English lesson, where students would repeatedly practice greeting phrases until they mastered them, sometimes requiring multiple sessions. The study utilized a descriptive qualitative research technique, incorporating observations and documentation to assess the effectiveness of the ice-breaking method. Despite the challenge of limited observation sessions, the findings revealed that while most students eventually performed the technique without relying on text, some still required additional practice. The research presented the findings which detailed the collected data, and the discussion, which interprets the context of improving students’ speaking abilities through the ice-breaking technique

Abstract

This study aims to determine: 1) online and offline learning strategies used during the Covid-19 pandemic, and 2) obstacles in implementing online and offline learning strategies during the Covid-19 pandemic at MI Quba, Sorong City. This study uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive type of research. Data collection techniques were carried out by interviews and documentation. The research subjects were homeroom teachers for class IV-VI AB. The data analysis technique used is the Miles and Huberman model, namely data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and data conclusion/verification. Test the validity of the data using source triangulation and technical triangulation. The results showed that 1) the online learning strategies used were constructivist pedagogical strategies and offline learning strategies using cooperative learning strategies, 2) the obstacles faced in the application of online and offline learning strategies, the obstacles during online learning were in terms of facilities not all students have a cellphone, slow internet network, full cellphone memory, internet quota, and in terms of learning outcomes the homeroom teacher is not satisfied with learning because they cannot directly monitor students in the teaching and learning process so that students lack understanding of the subject matter presented. Abstract

Language Policy of English as a Second Language (ESL) in Papua has been established by the Special Autonomy Law in 2021. This is pivotal in educational practices in a multilingual context. Despite this, significant concerns remain, especially about teachers’ involvement and the execution of the regulation. The gap policy arises from the previous studies highlighting the policy intention and classroom practices. This study aims to explore the gaps in the policy due to three main themes, namely communication gaps, structural and professional support, and socio-cultural tensions and language ideologies. A qualitative study was conducted by applying in-depth interviews with 6 teachers from several regencies in West Papua and Southwest Papua Province. Thematic analysis exposed three main challenges: (1)  policy communication gaps; (2) limited structural and professional support; (3) socio-cultural tensions and language ideologies. This study shows that the success of ESL policy depends on the provincial government's engagement, sustained teacher training, and culturally sensitive curriculum to local wisdom. Ultimately, this research contributes to the discourse of language policy in multilingual contexts, emphasizing the respect for local values and adjusting to the multilingual context, like Papua.
