Abstract

Background: Workplace violence (WPV) against nurses is a critical global concern that negatively affects nurse well-being, professional performance, and patient safety. Despite its widespread occurrence, WPV is consistently underreported. This persistent gap between high incidence and low reporting limits accurate surveillance, weakens institutional responses, and delays the development of effective prevention strategies. Objective: To identify the reasons behind the low reporting rate of WPV among health workers, especially nurses Design: Literature review. Data Sources: Scopus, Google Scholar, and Taylor & Francis databases were searched using the keywords “Workplace Violence,” “Healthcare Workers,” and “Nurses.” Review Process: Inclusion criteria comprised articles that discussed WPV prevalence and reporting behaviors and dated from 2020 onward. Screening of titles, abstracts, and full texts was performed, followed by detailed analysis of eligible studies. Results: Eleven studies from 10 Asian countries were included, with sample sizes ranging from 11 participants in a qualitative study to more than 20,000 registered nurses. Across settings, workplace violence was widespread, with prevalence rates ranging from 13.6% to nearly 90%. Despite this high occurrence, reporting remained limited. Personal barriers to reporting included fear of negative consequences, shame, guilt, and the perception that violence is an unavoidable part of nursing practice. Organizational barriers included unclear or inconvenient reporting procedures, lack of training, absence of system privacy, limited managerial support, and mistrust in reporting mechanisms. Collectively, these factors reinforced underreporting and contributed to unsafe work environments for nurses. Conclusion: Underreporting of WPV among nurses persists due to both individual and organizational barriers. Addressing this issue requires supportive reporting systems, training on WPV management, and fostering a non-punitive safety culture. Without targeted interventions, unsafe work environments will persist, compromising both nurse well-being and quality of patient care.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic disease that requires long-term medication adherence to prevent more serious complications. However, there is still a high level of non-compliance among hypertension patients, which may worsen their condition. One way to improve compliance is through health education based on animated videos, which can enhance patients' understanding and motivation. This study aims to analyze the effect of animated video education on medication adherence and blood pressure control in hypertensive patients at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. The study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 38 respondents selected through purposive sampling, divided into two groups: the intervention group (n=19) and the control group (n=19). The intervention group received animated video education, while the control group only underwent observation. Adherence was measured using the MMAS-8 questionnaire, and blood pressure was measured using a sphygmomanometer. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon, McNemar, and Mann-Whitney tests to examine differences between groups. The results showed a significant increase in medication adherence and a reduction in both systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group compared to the control group (p<0.05). These findings suggest that animated video education is effective in improving medication adherence and helping control blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Therefore, animated video education can be recommended as a nursing education strategy to improve medication adherence and hypertension management.

Abstract

Cancer is one of the leading causes of morbidity and mortality in Indonesia. Chemotherapy treatment often causes both physical and psychological side effects, which can reduce the patient's quality of life. Various factors, such as family support, economic status, education level, and knowledge, are suspected to influence the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. This study aims to analyze the factors associated with the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. This study used a non-experimental quantitative design with a correlational approach. Data were collected using questionnaires distributed to 84 respondents undergoing chemotherapy at the hospital. Bivariate analysis was performed using the Chi-Square test to examine the relationship between factors that are suspected to affect the quality of life of patients. The results showed that family support, economic status, education level, and knowledge level were significantly related to the quality of life of cancer patients. Specifically, the p-values obtained were 0.035 for family support, 0.000 for economic status, 0.036 for education level, and 0.049 for knowledge level. These findings indicate that social, economic, and educational factors play a crucial role in improving the quality of life of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. Therefore, special attention should be given to family support, knowledge enhancement, and better access to economic resources for cancer patients. As a result, their quality of life, especially during chemotherapy, can be improved. Keywords: quality of life, family support, economic status, education level, knowledge level.

Abstract

The family has an important role in the treatment process of cancer patients, especially in providing motivation during treatment. Social support from families has a great influence on the psychological condition of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. As the health workers who interact most intensely with patients, nurses play a role in empowering families through education and counseling to improve the quality of support provided. This study aims to analyze the relationship between social support and motivation to recover in breast cancer patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. The study used a correlational descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 77 respondents who were selected using purposive sampling techniques based on certain inclusion criteria. Data collection was carried out through a structured questionnaire, and statistical analysis was carried out using the Pearson correlation test. The results showed a significant relationship between social support and motivation to recover, with a correlation value of 0.478 and a p-value of 0.000 (p < 0.05). These findings suggest that the higher the level of social support patients receive, the greater their motivation to recover. The conclusion of this study is that social support has a positive contribution to increasing the healing motivation of breast cancer patients. Therefore, nursing interventions that actively involve families need to be improved as part of a holistic approach to the care of cancer patients.

Abstract

Appendicitis is an inflammatory condition of the small intestinal tract that is about 4 inches in size and located at the end of the secum. This condition often causes significant pain and requires effective management. In addition to pharmacological approaches, non-pharmacological methods such as relaxation techniques and alternative therapies are beginning to be widely applied to reduce pain and anxiety. One promising method is 5-finger hypnosis therapy, which is a relaxation technique that harnesses the power of the mind to achieve calmness and reduce the perception of pain. This study aims to determine the effect of 5-finger hypnosis therapy on pain reduction in appendicitis patients at RSI Sultan Agung Semarang. The research design used was quasi-experimental with a pre-posttest one group approach. A total of 32 appendicitis patients were selected as samples using the total sampling technique. Pain scales were measured before and after the intervention, then analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Ranks Test. The results showed a Z-value of -3.097 and a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between pain levels before and after therapy. These findings prove that 5-finger hypnosis therapy is effective in reducing pain in appendicitis patients. This study recommends the application of 5-finger hypnosis therapy as a non-pharmacological approach that can support patient comfort and accelerate the recovery process holistically.

Abstract

Malaria is an infectious disease caused by various species of Plasmodium, such as Plasmodium vivax, Plasmodium falciparum, Plasmodium malariae, and Plasmodium ovale, which are transmitted through the bite of Anopheles mosquitoes. The spread of this disease is highly influenced by the presence of mosquito breeding sites as vectors of transmission. This study aims to analyze the relationship between the knowledge and attitudes of outpatients toward malaria prevention behaviors at the ASA Enterop Clinic in Jayapura. The study design used a descriptive analytical method with a cross-sectional approach. The research instrument was a questionnaire, and data analysis involved both univariate and bivariate analysis, as well as Chi-square statistical testing. The results showed that 57 respondents (54.0%) had good knowledge with good prevention behavior, and 5 respondents (8.0%) had moderate knowledge with good prevention behavior. Meanwhile, 1 respondent (4.4%) had good knowledge but poor prevention behavior, and 5 respondents (5.0%) had moderate knowledge with poor prevention behavior. The conclusion of this study indicates a significant relationship between knowledge and attitudes with malaria prevention behavior in the research area. These findings highlight the importance of improving public knowledge and attitudes in preventing malaria and suggest that strengthening health education and awareness is crucial for disease prevention.

Abstract

Pain is one of the main problems that cancer patients who undergo chemotherapy often experience, both as a direct result of the development of the disease and as a side effect of the therapy undergone. Pain that is not handled properly can decrease the quality of life, interfere with daily activities, and negatively impact the patient's psychological state. Therefore, non-pharmacological interventions are important as a companion effort to medical treatment. This study aims to analyze the effect of the combination of Benson relaxation technique and Quranic Healing therapy on the pain level of cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy at the Sultan Agung Islamic Hospital Semarang. The research uses a quasi experiment design with a nonequivalent control group design approach. The sample size was 36 respondents, divided into intervention groups and control groups, each consisting of 18 respondents. Pain levels were measured with the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) instrument before and after the intervention. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test for differences within groups and the Mann–Whitney test for differences between groups. The results showed a significant decrease in pain levels in the intervention group (p = 0.000) compared to the control group (p = 0.046), with a significant difference between the two groups after the intervention (p = 0.001). In conclusion, the combination of Benson relaxation techniques and Quranic Healing has been shown to be effective in reducing pain in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. These interventions can be recommended as an alternative to non-pharmacological nursing measures to improve the comfort and quality of life of cancer patients.
