Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has created new problems for the environment as evidenced by the large number of masks, both medical masks (single-use) and non-medical masks, found in public places. The discovery of masks that are discarded in any place, especially in beach tourism areas, is something we usually encounter these days. This has a negative impact on the coastal environment, in the long run, it will be one of the causes of climate change, damage to coastal ecosystems, and ecotoxicity. Sanur Tourism Area is one of the most attractive tourist attractions for tourists both domestic and foreign tourists. The aim of this research is to contribute and provide feedback to the local government especially the Sanitation and Environmental Services Department, to be more concerned about the management of mask waste and the providing of its facilities. The design of this study is descriptive to describe the level of knowledge of Sanur Beach visitors regarding the availability of mask waste disposal facilities at Sanur Beach, it is found that beach visitors have a fairly good level of knowledge (45%) in understanding the impact of mask waste disposal on tourism at Sanur Beach. The majority of respondents stated that the mask waste disposal facilities at Sanur Beach are adequate but the correct procedure for disposing of mask waste has not been found. As many as 68% of respondents stated that there is a closed landfill at Sanur Beach for mask waste disposal. The availability of facilities to manage disposable mask waste is another important factor that influences community action in implementing good waste management. For this reason, it is necessary to coordinate with relevant agencies and Sanur village officials and community cadres to negotiate to provide shared bins at several locations on Sanur Beach specifically to accommodate mask waste only to make it easier for visitors to sort their waste and not mix their mask waste again with other domestic waste.

Abstract

When the host's phagocytic resistance diminishes, Candida albicans can enter the bloodstream and cause a systemic fungal infection known as candidiasis. One fungus that has become resistant to antifungals is Candida albicans. The herb sirih cina is one way to discover novel antifungals made of natural elements. This study aims to determine the antifungal activity of Chinese betel leaf extract against the growth of the Candida albicans fungus. The sirih cina plant (Peperomia pellucida L. Kunth) was used in this experimental work, which used 70% ethanol as a solvent for the extraction process using maceration. Alkaloids, flavonoids, tannins, saponins, and phenolics are among the secondary metabolites found in the ethanol extract of the Sirih cina plant. Using the well diffusion test method, the antifungal efficiency of the ethanol extract of the Sirih cina plant at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% was evaluated. Candida albicans growth is inhibited by the ethanol extract of the Sirih Cincina plant, which is categorized as medium category and has the highest inhibition zone diameter at 100% concentration of 8.20 ± 0.14 mm.

Abstract

Loloh is a local wisdom product of the Balinese people that has been passed down from generation to generation, processed from plant leaves. Consumption of loloh is utilized by the community as a preventive measure to prevent disease and increase body immunity. This has great potential to be applied in facing the growing disease trends in the future, starting from infectious diseases and non-infectious diseases (degenerative). Herbal drinks in general made from ginger, turmeric and temulawak have been widely studied. However, until now, the antioxidant power of loloh from Bali is not yet known. The purpose of this study was to determine the comparison of the antioxidant power of traditional Balinese loloh. This study used a descriptive explorative and experimental design by applying the DPPH (2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl) method to determine the antioxidant power of each loloh sample by looking at its IC50 value. The data collection technique uses purposive sampling. The number of samples studied in this study was ten samples including loloh cemcem, beras kencur, rosella, telang, mengkudu, kelor, kunyit asam, temu kunyit, kunyit asam sirih, and cincau hijau. Data analysis was conducted using regression equations. The results of IC50 measurements showed that the traditional loloh that had very strong antioxidant activity was loloh kelor leaves with an IC50 value of 98 ppm, weak antioxidant activity was possessed by loloh rosella flower tea and cincau leaves with IC50 values of 168 ppm and 198 ppm while very weak antioxidants were possessed by loloh telang flowers, cemcem, beras kencur, mengkudu, kunyit asam, temu kunyit, and kunyit asam sirih with IC50 values > 200 ppm.

Abstract

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF), especially in tropical countries like Indonesia, is still a feared disease. Decreased immunity is one of the causes of DHF in addition to interaction with mosquitoes. This decreased immunity can be caused by many things, one of which is decreased hemoglobin levels caused by anemia, a condition in which there is a decrease in iron levels (ferrite) in the blood. Continuous efforts are needed to prevent dengue fever (DHF). Counseling on Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) and hemoglobin was conducted at SMP Ganesha Denpasar with the aim of increasing students' knowledge about the dangers of DHF, symptoms, prevention methods, and the importance of hemoglobin levels in the body. This activity involved 60 students in grade VIII and was carried out in several stages, including giving pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the data analysis showed a significant increase in knowledge, with understanding of the causes, symptoms, and prevention of DHF increasing by 22%, and understanding of hemoglobin increasing by 41%. This activity is expected to contribute to increasing health awareness among students and can be used as a model for health counseling in other schools. Thus, this counseling has proven effective in increasing students' knowledge about DHF and hemoglobin, and can be the basis for further interventions in improving public health in the school environment.

Abstract

Obesity is an excessive accumulation of fat that poses a health risk. The right lifestyle and diet greatly affect the growth of adolescents. If there is an imbalance, then adolescents can be affected by obesity. The method in this activity is in the form of providing education through counselling at SMAN 7 Denpasar about the dangers of obesity and checking height, weight, and waist circumference to determine the BMI of students and early detection of obesity conditions. The number of students who were educated and measured BMI status was 50 students. The BMI measurement results showed that 48% of students had normal BMI status, 22% with overweight BMI status, 18% were obese, and 12% with underweight BMI status. The average results of pre-test and post-test assessments showed an increase in understanding from students about the dangers of obesity after being given counselling. This community service activity concludes that counselling is an effective means of increasing understanding of the dangers of obesity and measuring BMI in students can make them realise early on whether they are obese or not, making it easier to prevent or improve lifestyle and eating habits to prevent or overcome adolescent obesity.
