Abstract

Background. Osteoarthritis (OA) is a degenerative joint disease characterized by chronic pain, stiffness, and decreased joint function, which significantly impairs the quality of life in older adults. As OA progresses, it limits mobility and daily functioning, leading to psychological distress and reduced independence. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of Home-Based Exercise Training (HBET) in improving the quality of life among elderly patients with osteoarthritis. Research Methods. A quasi-experimental study with a one-group pretest and posttest design was conducted at the Surabaya Square Public Health Center. Sum of 26 elderly patients diagnosed with knee osteoarthritis were selected through consecutive sampling, meeting specific inclusion criteria. Participants performed HBET knee exercises at home for 2 weeks under guidance. The Osteoarthritis of Knee and Hip Quality of Life (OAKHQOL) questionnaire was used to assess the quality of life before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the paired t-test with a significance level set at p <0.05. Findings. Statistical analysis revealed a significant improvement in life quality after the intervention, p-value 0.0001. Participants experienced notable enhancements in physical functioning, pain reduction, emotional well-being, and social engagement after performing regular HBET knee exercises. Conclusions. Home-Based Exercise Training (HBET) effectively enhances life quality for older patients knee osteoarthritis. It is a practical, low-cost, and sustainable intervention that can be implemented in community health programs. Further research is recommended to explore HBET's benefits in other aging-related conditions.

The dependent variable was the occurrence of patient safety incidents. Data were gathered through observation and analyzed using the chi- square test, with a significance level set at p-value < 0.05. Result: The results showed that there was a correlation between interracial nurse communication with the patient safety incident (p-value = 0.001). There was a correlation between nurse and doctor communication with the patient safety incident (p-value = 0.000). There was a correlation between the communication nurse and the medical support department with the patient safety incident (p-value = 0.000). There was a correlation between nurse and patient communication with the   patient safety incident (p-value = 0.000). Conclusion: Nurses who possess strong and effective communication skills can help prevent patient safety incidents. To achieve this, it is essential to enhance knowledge about communication, provide training on patient safety, and ensure compliance among nurses with the implementation of standard operating procedures, along with support from hospital leadership in supervision.

Abstract

Bullying in boarding schools is a serious issue affecting students’ mental health, social relationships, and academic performance. Boarding schools, especially pesantren in Indonesia, present unique social and institutional contexts that may facilitate bullying. This study conducted a systematic review following PRISMA guidelines. Literature searches were performed in Scopus, ScienceDirect, PubMed, ProQuest, Web of Science, and Google Scholar for studies published between 2020 and 2025. Eligible articles focused on bullying in boarding schools and reported data on prevalence, risk factors, or impacts. Data were synthesized narratively. Bullying is common in boarding schools, including physical, verbal, and relational forms. Key risk factors include low self-esteem, limited resilience, negative parenting styles, unsafe school environments, and peer hierarchies. Bullying was associated with psychological distress, anxiety, depression, peer conflicts, reduced school engagement, and lower academic performance. Prevalence and severity varied across cultural and institutional contexts. Bullying in boarding schools is multifactorial, involving individual, familial, and school-level contributors. Unsafe climates and poor supervision intensify risks, while negative consequences extend beyond immediate harm to long-term mental health, social adjustment, and academic outcomes.

Abstract

Introduction & Objectives: Community service through Progressive Muscle Relaxation Therapy in the Donokerto I Area, Kapasan Village, Simokerto Subdistrict, was motivated by the high prevalence of Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease (GERD), which is characterized by gastric acid reflux and causes symptoms such as epigastric pain and a reduced quality of life. Stress is known to exacerbate symptoms through increased visceral sensitivity and gastric acid secretion. This community service, through progressive muscle relaxation therapy, is used to manage GERD symptoms. Methods: Community service used a health education approach combined with demonstrations of progressive muscle relaxation techniques. Implementation methods included lectures, discussions, and hands-on practice sessions for participants. Evaluation utilized a pre-test and post-test design to measure knowledge improvement, attitude, and observation of symptom changes using the GERD Questionnaire. The participants consisted of 21 adults with GERD. Results: The results showed an increase in participants’ knowledge and attitudes regarding GERD, and in their skill in progressive muscle relaxation techniques following the activity. Additionally, some participants reported a reduction in the intensity of symptoms such as heartburn, burning, and muscle tension. Discussion: Progressive muscle relaxation is effective as a complementary therapy in helping manage GERD symptoms, although its success depends heavily on regular and sustained practice.
