Abstract

Level of Biosecurity Application on Big Scale Piggery in Noelbaki village, Central Kupang sub distiric, Kupang distric. Classical Swine fever is one of swine diseases that often occurs in East Nusa Tenggara and is recognised as an endemic disease in Timor Island. This disease is also known as Hog cholera since it gained entry in the island of Timor in 1997 and has caused economic losses, which is believed as a result of low level of biosecurity application on farms. This research was aimed to identify level of application of biosecurity on farm level. Purposive sampling was our sampling method used, where all commercial pig farms in Noelbaki village involved in the survey. The research results showed that there were some variables of biosecurity applied in low level courses such as closed to small scale pig farms, use of wheel bath for trucks at the entrance of the farm and desinfection of trucks. Some biosecurity parameters had low scores, thus, it affected the low level of biosecurity.Keywords: Biosecurity, Piggery

Abstract

This study aims to determine th relationship between changes in blood erythrocyte sedimentation rate of liver abnormalities in local goats. Abnormal liver classified in bleeding (hemorrhagic), thickening of the bile ducts (cholestatic), the formation of connective tissue (fibrosis) and swelling (hepatomegaly). Abnormal scoring from 0 (normal) to 5 (liver damage above 75%). Erythrocyte sedimentation rate blood test done at the Laboratory of Clinical Pathology, Veterinary Faculty, University of Udayana. These results illustrate the influence of liver abnormalities of ESR values were analyzed with Spearman correlation coefficients according to Stell and Torrie (1991). Results showed 97% of local goats have the ESR value from 3 to 10 mm/24 hours with the type of liver damage such as bleeding 63%; swelling 44%; the formation of connective tissue 93% and 14% thickening of the bile duct.The results show that the value of the ESR is influenced by the presence of connective tissue formation (fibrosis), bleeding (hemorrhagic), and swelling (hepatomegaly) (P <0.05). It concluded that liver abnormalities in local goats, such as connective tissue formation (fibrosis), bleeding (hemorrhagic), and swelling (hepatomegaly) is correlated with the ESR so that the ESRs can be used as an indicator of liver abnormalities.Keywords : ESR, Hemorrhagic, Cholestatic, Fibrosis, Hepatomegaly

Abstract

The Increasing of beef consumption in Kupang City, shows that there is an increase in people's need for animal protein. However, high meat consumption can also be a threat to health if contaminated by microorganisms.This study aims to calculate the amount of microbial contamination in beef samples taken from Kupang City Slaughterhouse. 30 longissimus dorsi muscle samples were taken from RPH and taken to the Kupang City Veterinary Engineering Unit to be examined using the Total PlateCaount Test (TPC), then the bacterial colonies were calculated using a colony counter.The results of the TPC analysis show that 63.33% of the samples have TPC values that are above the normal standard, while only 36.67% are at normal values.
