Abstract

Memories are storage in cholinoceptive cells, the cells which are enriched with microtubule-associated protein 2 (MAP-2) that localized in the neuronal dendrite and the cell bodies. Phosphorylation of MAP-2 may increase memory with reduce stability of dendrite by altered dendrite length and lead new side-branches of neuronal as a neuronal plasticity processes in cerebral cortex. The aim of this research is to study the distribution of MAP-2 phosphorylation neurons in cerebral cortex of long-tailed macaques in the third semester of gestationalimmunohistochemically using avidin biotin conjugated complex method. Neurons MAP-2 phosphorylation immunoreactive were located in dendrites and cell bodies, mostly in pyramidal neurons of cerebral cortex. Intensity of MAP-2 phosphorylation immunoreactivity in layer V were stronger than another layer and the neurons that very intensely stained were the pyramidal cells in frontal and parietal lobes, that was suggested that neurons in this areas more responsive to neuroplasticity. From the results we concluded that MAP-2 phosphorylation already distributed in the cerebral cortex of long-tailed macaque fetuses at the last trimester of gestation, mostly in the pyramidal cells of layer V that is suggested plays a role for preparation of memoryformation. Keywords: fetus, long-tailed monkey, cerebral cortex, memory, MAP-2 phosphorylation

Abstract

Background: The severity of ischemia-reperfusion (I/R) kidney injury is highly correlated with mortality and morbidity rate. Research on human and animal prove that NGAL predicts kidney injury at early phase. The objective of this study is to prove that the increase in serum and urinary NGAL are correlated with kidney tubular epithelial damage, and this increase has occurred in initiation phase, indicated by rat kidney histopathology in an early I/R model. Methods: Twenty eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were divided into 4 groups: 4 hour sham (Sham 4), 8 hour sham (Sham 8), 10 minute ischemia 4 hour reperfusion (I/R 4) and 10 minute ischemia 8 hour reperfusion (I/R 8). Blood, urine and kidney samples were collected. Serum creatinine level was analyzed with Jaffe method, while serum and urinary NGAL level were analyzed with direct sandwich ELISA method. Evaluation of kidney damage were measured semi quantitatively in tissue stained with HE. Further evaluation to confirm cellular changes on kidney was performed by electron microscope and immunohistochemistry. Results: Serum NGAL was found significantly correlated with degree of kidney tissue damage (ρSpearman NGAL serum = 0.701, p < 0.001), also urinary NGAL (ρSpearman = 0.689, p < 0.001). NGAL expression differs significantly between I/R group and sham (t-test, t = -26635.056, p < 0.001), also kidney damage (t-test, t = -5.028, p < 0.001), and serum and urinary NGAL levels (Mann-Whitney, U = 0, p < 0.001). With cutoff points of 136.95 ng/mL and 58.69 ng/mL subsequently for serum and urinary NGAL , it is found that sensitivity = 1, specificity = 1.Conclusion: Elevation of serum and urinary NGAL are significantly correlated with epithelial tubular kidney damage on rat undergoing early ischaemia reperfusion. Abstract

Giving a half-dose of an anthelmintic is a simple method for detecting resistance in parasites infesting small ruminants. When a single anthelmintic fails in native sheep from Indonesia, a combination of anthelmintics from different chemical classes with different mechanism of action is an alternative parasite-control strategy. This study compared the anthelmintic effectiveness of ivermectin (IVM) and albendazole (ABZ) have given either separately as a full-dose or half-dose or co-administered to sheep naturally infected with Ostertagia. Twelve sheep from Bogor, Indonesia were divided into six groups based on the anthelmintic treatment: half-dose IVM, full-dose IVM, half-dose ABZ, full-dose ABZ, combined (half-dose IVM + half-dose ABZ), and control groups. The treatment effectiveness was determined using the Faecal egg count reduction (FECR) on before and after 7, 14, 21, 28, 35, and 42 days of treatment. FECR of half-dose IVM, full-dose IVM, half-dose ABZ, full-dose ABZ, and both combined ranged from 78-100%, 96-100%, -71-89%, -521-64%, and 54-100%, respectively. The results showed that full-dose IVM was the most effective to against Ostertagia until 42 days and followed the combined that effective until 28 days. Half-dose and full-dose ABZ weren’t effective to against Ostertagia.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

Urolithiasis is defined as the formation of urolith or crystal in the urinary tract caused by supersaturation of urine. This study was conducted at PDHB drh Cucu Kartini S, dkk, Jakarta clinic. The data were taken from urinalysis test results of 23 dogs which suffered crystaluria and urolith stone examination of 11 dogs which suffered urolith stone post cystotomy. Most affected breeds were Shihtzu, Pug, Mini Pom, Corgi, Miniature Schnauzer, Golden Retriever. Crystaluria most detected in male dogs, while urolith stone most affected in female dogs.  Dogs from 6 months to 12.5 years with a median of 5 years were affected. The urinalysis showed that dogs with crystaluria had alkaline urine (mean 8.3), 100% proteinuria, 86.9% hematuria, 41.4% pyuria. Diets is the most contributing factor in case of struvite urolithiasis, which is low water content; high in protein, magnesium, phosphorus, carbohydrates and calcium. Therapeutic diets that low in protein, phosphorus, magnesium and sufficient carbohydrates and diets with greater than 70% moisture can be an option for treatment and prevention of recurrent of struvite urolithiasis
