Abstract

Motivation can be a driving force for learning that is manifested by the attention of students in blended learning. Blended learning is a combination of online learning and face-to-face learning models.  Faculty of Nursing at one private university in Tangerang, is currently developing a blended learning model. The learning is applied to several subjects including Emergency and Critical Care and Disaster Management courses. When the pandemic hit Indonesia, the education system suddenly shifted to online learning. It then pushed students and teachers to master the use of technology, in order to ensure the effectiveness of its implementation. It is indeed significant, given that there are several challenges with a blended learning model, such as internet connection, inadequate facilities or devices, and students’ tendency to procrastinate. It is also important to know students’ perception toward blended learning for the better implementation in the future. This study sought  to explore the motivation of nursing students at one private university in Tangerang toward blended learning. To achieve the objective, a descriptive quantitative research method was utilized. The sample consisted of 207 third year nursing students who learned with a blended learning method. The data were collected using The Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) in May 2020 by online survey form. The data were then analyzed using univariate analysis. It showed that 70% students had high learning motivation while the remaining 30% had  low learning motivation.  Hence, blended learning was assumed to be effective and worth keeping for nursing education.

Research This study aims to identify a description of nursing students' compliance in independent isolation in a dormitory at a private university in Western Indonesia. This study uses a retrospective type of research that takes data from March to September 2021 using quantitative research methods and a descriptive approach with sampling using the Purposive Sampling technique. The population in this study were final-year students with a sample size of 88 respondents. The measuring instrument in this study is a questionnaire with 11 questions. This questionnaire was tested for validity and reliability by 30 respondents who were final-year students. Researchers used univariate data analysis to describe student compliance in self-isolation. The results show that the level of compliance of the respondents was 59.1%, and non-compliance was 40.9%. In conclusion, most of the students were obedient in carrying out self-isolation. However, implementing health protocols should be maintained as preventive action for COVID-19.

Abstract

Global prevalence data released by WHO (2021) shows a decrease in positive cases of COVID-19 in Indonesia by 18%. One of the government's policy efforts to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus is establishing health protocols, including physical distancing, wearing masks, and hand washing. There is an increase in the number of dormitory residents at one of the western Indonesian universities, which causes a decrease in the effectiveness of implementing health protocols. The study aims to identify the application of health protocols, including physical distancing, wearing masks, and hand washing among nursing students. This study uses descriptive quantitative research methods. The instrument used is an online questionnaire, a random sampling technique with univariate data. The results showed that the 2019 and 2020 nursing students, 232 respondents (99.1%) and two respondents (0.9%) did not apply health protocols properly. In conclusion, most nursing students in Western Indonesian universities applied health protocols. Suggestions for students are expected to be able to maintain and improve the implementation of health protocols in dormitories to prevent the increase in the spread of COVID-19 or other infections. For further research, we are expected to use bivariate analysis to suppress the increase in respiratory infection cases.
