Lahan Suboptimal 1(1):57-63Â Research of predatory arthropods inhabiting fresh swamp and tidal land ecosystem in South Sumatra used survey method. The objective of this reasearch was to identify families of the predatory arthropods found in the fresh swamp and tidal land ecosystem in South Sumatra. Survey occured in January up to March 2012. The predatory arthropods were sampled using net and pitfall trapping. The predatory arthropods found were Insecta and Arachnida. Ordo of predatory insects found were Coleoptera, Dermaptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Orthoptera, Odonata, and Hymenoptera, while predatory spiders found were ordo Araneae. Predatory arthropods inhabiting paddy canopy were almost trapped by net traps, while soil dwelling arthropods were trapped by pitfall traps. The dominant predatory insects found were families of Carabidae and staphylinidae, while dominant family of spiders was Lycosidae. Key species of the predatory artrhopods found from the fresh and tidal land ecosystem were Pheropsophus occipitalis, Paederus fuscipes, Coccinella arcuata, Pardosa pseudoannulata, Oxyopes sp., Pardosa sumatrana, Verania lineata, Broscus sp., and Chelisoches sp.

Pujiastuti et al, 2017. Production of Bacillus thuringiensis Spores in Agricultural Waste with Addition of Golden Snail Shell Powder and its Toxicity Against Spodoptera litura Fabr. (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). JLSO 6(2):150-157.Armyworm or Spodoptera litura is an important pest on the cultivation of plants. Controlling by using biological agents such as Bacillus thuringiensis is an alternative to the use of chemical insecticides which cause a negative impact on insects and environment. B. thuringiensis-based bio insecticide can be reproduced by using agricultural waste with the addition of golden snail shell flour. The study was aimed to investigate the production of B. thuringiensis spores on agricultural waste media and the addition of golden snail shell flour and its toxicity to armyworm, as well. The research design was a completely randomized design with 10 treatments and 3 replications. Treatment were the media of agricultural waste: 50 mL coconut water, 50 mL of tofu liquid waste, 50 mL of rice wash water and mixture of three media (v/v/v, 1:1:1) with the addition of golden shell flour as much as 5 g and mineral salt of CaCl2, MgSO4, K2HPO4, KH2PO4. The results showed the production of bacterial spores ranged from 8.90x107 spores/mL to 9.51x107 spores/mL with the highest production in the mixed treatment of the three waste media (coconut water, tofu waste and rice laundry water). In this treatment the level of toxicity was 40% in larvae of armyworm. The weight of leaf feed consumed by armyworm at various treatments was ranged from 36.33 to 46.67 g/10 larvae. The addition of mashed shell flour to growth media of B. thuringiensis did not increase the number of spores.

Prabawati et al, 2017. The Role of Wild Flowering Plants in Conserving Insect Natural Enemies in Lowland Oil-Palm Ecosystem of South Sumatera. JLSO 6(1):78-86.Wild flowering plants can be used in increasing the potential of insect natural enemies on oil palm plantations. This paper inventoried the diversity of natural enemies that interacted with wild flowering plants in the oil palm ecosystem. Wild flowering plants are used as feed sources and living places Â which provide alternate hosts for natural enemies, namely predators and parasitoids. Some families of flowering plants associated withÂ parasitoids in oil palm ecosystem include Euphorbiaceae, Leguminosae, Fabaceae, Acanthaceae, Asteraceae, Polygonaceae, Rubiaceae, Capparidaceae, Lamiaceae, Turneraceae. Some plant species associated with predators in oil palm plantations include Antigonon leptosus, Elephantopus tomentosus, Nephrolepis biserata.

Astuti et al, 2018. Utilization of Organic Waste in the Making of Bacillus thuringiensis-based Bioinsecticides as Agents for Control of Caisim Brassica juncea Pests. JLSO 7(2):136-143.Â Bacillus thuringiensis was one of the entomopathogenic bacteria that can produces toxic crystal proteine (á´•-endotoksin). The use of bioinsecticide as a biological agent in pest control was one component of integrated pest control (IPM). The aimed of this reseacrh was to know the population of pests in plants and the percentage of damage to plants that exist in each treatment. The research was conducted in a vegetable garden in the Banyuasin district in November 2017 until January 2018. The research method used a randomized block design with 5 treatments and 4 blocks. The treatment was Bacillus thuringiensis KJ3R5 cultured in coconut water and rice washing waterÂ (A), Bacillus thuringiensis LC2 cultured in coconut water and tofu wastewater (B), commercial Bacillus thuringiensis (C), inorganic insecticide (sidametrin) (D), and water as control (E). The variables observed were arthropod populations on the canopy and ground surface of choy sum (Brassica rapa var. parachinensis or Brassica chinensis var. parachinensis) plants. The results showed that 4 species of pests i.e. Pyllotreta crucifera, Spodoptera litura, Plutella xylostella, and Helula sp. Treatment with Bacillus thuringiensis LC2 (B) resulted in reduction of plant damage by 61%.

Bacillus thuringiensis is an entomopathogenic bacterium isolated from the soil and has been widely used as an active ingredient in the manufacture of bioinsecticides. The target insects are very specific and depend on the type of protein content. Epilachna sp. are important insect pests because both larvae and adults as plant-eating pests. The research aimed was to investigate the effectivity of B. thuringiensis against the larvae of Epilachna sp.. B. thuringiensis- bio-insecticide was prepared using isolates originally from freshwater swamp soil of South Sumatra (SMR04). Epilachna sp larvae were mass-reared with Solanum torvum leaf feed in the laboratory. The design used was a completely randomized design, with 6 treatments and 5 replications. Treatments were spore concentration contained in the bioinsecticide solution included: 1 x 108, 1 x 107, 1 x 106, 1 x 105 spores/mL, commercial bio-insecticide and without treatment as a control. Each replication used 10 individual of the 2nd larvae. Statistical test results showed larval mortality in B. thuringiensis treatment was significantly different from commercial bio-insecticide treatment. The highest mortality of bio-insecticide treatment occurred at a concentration of 108 spores/ml (40.00 %) and the lowest was at a concentration of 105 spores/mL (18.01 %). The lowest LT50 value of bio-insecticide treatment was at a concentration of 108 spores/mL, namely 79.37 hours. The control of larvae included in the Coleoptera order was still not satisfactory yet, considering the presence of protein content in B. thuringiensis strain SMR04 which did not match the type of protein required.
