Abstract

Fajar FNI, Sirait DDCP, Saputra EA, Muis M, Nugraha R, Pujiastuti Y. 2021. Population of Spodoptera Frugipeda in the corn field of monocultural and polycultural  plant patterns. In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-9 Tahun 2021, Palembang 20 Oktober 2021. pp. 570-577.  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI). Increased yields on corn cropland are certainly an important factor in meeting the needs of other commodities besides rice. In order to maximize the management can not be arbitrary. It's just that there are some obstacles during its cultivation such as Spodoptera which damage crop yields, so it is necessary to carry out proper and maximum control. The main highlight on Spodoptera pests is S.  frugiperda. Control of Spodoptera frugiperda can be overcome by the use of pesticides but the impact is not too good because it will kill natural predators. The right step can be with the management of polyculture cropping patterns. This is in the form of monoculture and polyculture. The purpose of writing this scientific paper was to determine the population of S. frugiperda in corn fields in monoculture and polyculture cropping patterns. The method used in writing this paper is a literature study method obtained from literature from books and scientific journals on the internet. Based on the results of the literature study obtained, it is known that cropping patterns are related to the life of S.  frugiperda. Polyculture is more effective in preventing this pest from growing well than monoculture. Polyculture cropping patterns can help various kinds of insects increase so that competition between S. frugiperda and natural enemy insects can occur. It was concluded that the population of S. frugiperda differs depending on the crop pattern and it is more effective to use a polycultural cropping pattern interspersed with plants like soybeans to inhibit the population of Spodoptera frugiperda.

(Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-8 Tahun 2020, Palembang  20 Oktober 2020. pp. xx.  Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI).The cultivation of vegetable crops is very much practiced by farmers both in the highlands and in the lowlands. In the cultivation of vegetables, pests and diseases cannot be separated. Pests that attack cucumber plants can be detrimental both in quality and quantity. The purpose of this study was to determine the insect pests that attack cucumber plants. Observations were made by comparing 2 cucumber fields. The comparison of the 2 fields was then carried out using the t test method. The results of observations on cucumber plants in the field were 4 species of insect pests that attack cucumber plants. Insects that attack cucumber plants consist of Diaphania sp., Aulacophora similis, Bemisia tabaci and Liriomyza sp.. The population of insect pests was found only 3 species based on visual observation and the intensity of pest attacks on cucumber plants was found to be 4 species of insect pests that attack these plants. In the t test results on insect populations, the species of Bemisia tabaci were significantly different in land 1 and land 2, while Diaphania sp. And A. Similis is not real different. The intensity of insect pests of Diaphania sp., Aulacophora similis and Liriomyza sp. Unreal different. However, the intensity of the Bemisia Tabaci attack was significantly different. The intensity of insect pests attack on land 1 was 44.76%, while on land 2 was 42.97%. Cultivation of cucumber with technical culture affects insect pests and the intensity of pest attacks.

In: Herlinda S et al. (Eds.), Prosiding Seminar Nasional Lahan Suboptimal ke-9 Tahun 2021, Palembang  20 Oktober 2021. pp. 621-627. Palembang: Penerbit & Percetakan Universitas Sriwijaya (UNSRI). Diamondback moth, Plutella xylostella is an important insect pest on plants belong to Brassicaceae family. Symptoms of attack is hollow leaves and leave dirt on them. If it is not controlled, the yield loss can reach 80%. Control by using biological agents entomopathogenic bacteria Bacillus thuringiensis may be used to reduce the population of P. xylostella. The purpose of research was to study the pathogenicity of B. thuringiensis isolated from cadaver of  Spodoptera litura against P. xylostella larvae in the laboratory. The treatments were two isolates of B. thuringiensis encoded  SlBt01 and SLBt03. The experiment was designed with a completely randomized design  (CRD) separated between isolates. The treatment consisted of 5 treatments (including control) spore density and 5 replications. Observations were mortality rate and time of death of the test larvae. Results showed the highest mortality was in isolate SlBT01 (61.73%)  and in isolate SlBt03 (56.66%). The lowest LT50 values of isolates SlBt01 and SLBt03 were 9.78 days and 9.14 days, respectively. Symptoms of infection in Plutella larvae are changes in body color and eventually die with symptoms of wet rot.

Abstract

Reducing crop cultivation is providing ecological biota for plants through Integrated Pest Management (IPM). Farmers' problems regarding pests and diseases in Banyuasin and OKU Timur, especially for food crops and horticulture farmers. The purpose of this research is to evaluate the compliance of food crops and horticulture farmers in implementing safe and environmentally friendly IPM. Study on various fields of food and horticulture farmers in Banyuasin and Ogan Komering Ulu. The research method used is purposive sampling. Observation of Plant Pests and Diseases was completed directly in the field. Then determine the disease score in each sample plant. The parameters observed in this study are the behavior of farmers towards the decision-making process of using pesticides. Pest and disease intensity, and disease attack percentage were analyzed descriptively in the form of tables and graphs, as well as correlation analysis. The highest value of diversity of pests and diseases of food and horticultural crops based on the entire area of the observed land was found in a land area of 0.25 ha, which is the area that is often found in land for crop cultivation. The average age percentage of farmers in Banyuasin and OKU East is 40 to 50 years old. The average education of farmers in Banyuasin and OKU Timur is 24 farmers. The percentage and intensity of both horticultural and food crops in Banyuasin are good because only a few farmers get a score of 2 or 1. Cultivation techniques are land preparation, land sanitation, selection of resistant varieties, spacing, irrigation, crop rotation, intercropping, mulching, natural enemies of insects, and weeding.

Abstract

Livestock waste becomes a problem and disturbs the community environment. In addition to the odor generated, it causes an unclean environment. Livestock waste is a problem for the people of Jungkal Village, Pampangan District, Ogan Komering Ilir Regency, South Sumatra. Good environmental management must be a priority. Therefore, livestock waste must be utilized to create a healthy environment. The purpose of this activity was to explain the use of livestock waste as a medium to produce bio-insecticides made from the active Bacillus thuringiensis bacteria. The target community was a farmer group in Jungkal Village. Activities were carried out in two ways, namely socialization activities and practical activities to produce bio-insecticide with active B. thuringiensis. Preliminary data showed that farmers were aware that livestock waste causes discomfort. Handling both liquid and solid waste has yielded little results because, so far, farmers have only gotten rid of this waste without using it as a helpful product. After the community service activities were completed, 80% of the participants understood the benefit of livestock waste. With an intensive approach and assistance, farmer groups can receive new directions.
