Abstract

The objectives of the research are to know the translation shift and the translation equivalence in The Sea of Monsters novel which is translated into “Laut Para Monster”. This research uses qualitative method through content analysis approach. The writers compared the source text (ST) and the target text (TT) then, did the analysis by using theories proposed by (Catford,1965) and  (Nida,1982). The results show that the most shifting is unit shift, 65% and it reaches 77% formal equivalence. Those results show that TSu is well transferred into TSa in term of form and content. It can be seen from the translation shift which only happen at the word level, it seems that the translator is faithful to source text, while seen by the translation equivalence, seems that the writer is also faithful to target text.

Differences influence this in language input where during the pandemic, children's language input was dominated by the media. The following finding is that children with IAD experience several obstacles in mastering language, such as difficulties in making argumentative sentences, comparative sentences, and assembling sentences in complex stories. Besides that, the following finding is that children with IAD tend to acquire a diverse vocabulary, some of which are not according to age. Through these findings, the researcher calls for the active role of stakeholders such as the government, parents, community, and academics in anticipating the negative impacts of excessive internet use.

Abstract

This research is based on the use of "ngalem" or praising oral speech in daily communication. “Ngalem” is an expression to show admiration for other people. Nowadays, the use of this term is rarely use in Javanese society. This research aims to describe and explain the types of metaphors found in Javanese speech when someone "ngalem" or praises another person. Next, provide data using the listen and note method. There are several findings, first, "ngalem" or praise is usually intended to praise the beauty of male and female body parts including the head, body, hands, and feet. Second, the type of metaphor that dominates is anthropomorphic metaphor. "ngalem" tends to match parts of the human body with inanimate objects. Third, the animal metaphor type is used to describe a beautiful neck as if it were coiled like a snake, while the synthetic metaphor is used to "smile" at the beauty of the lips. Some informants still remember this expression but tend not to understand its meaning. Some informants also no longer introduce these expressions to their children or grandchildren. Implicitly, this research also illustrates the phenomenon of the Javanese community's declining interest in maintaining and passing on the language to the generations below.

Abstract

This study explores the critical role of early childhood education in nurturing sensory and practical life skills within preschool classrooms. Focusing on the Montessori method, the research examines how experiential learning and activities closely tied to everyday life can significantly benefit preschool-aged children. The Montessori approach prioritizes hands-on engagement, allowing children to develop fine motor skills, sensory awareness, and practical abilities that are essential for fostering independence. These foundational skills are not just about mastering basic tasks; they are integral to broader cognitive, social, and emotional development. The study emphasizes how well-structured sensory and practical life activities enable children to explore their environment, develop problem-solving abilities, and gain confidence in their capabilities. By participating in such programs, children demonstrate marked improvements in their sensory processing and practical competencies, which are critical for their overall readiness to advance in more formal educational settings. The findings underscore the long-term benefits of integrating Montessori principles into early childhood education, suggesting that these methods not only prepare children for academic success but also contribute to their holistic development, equipping them with the skills needed to navigate the complexities of everyday life.

Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the ideology in the Free Market Presidential Candidate narrative on the Mata Najwa program on Trans 7. Using Fairclough's (2013) Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach, this study investigates how the narrative critiques oligarchic practices and their impact on democracy in Indonesia. This study addresses three main questions: (1) How does the narrative critique oligarchy and its implications for democratic practices? (2) What linguistic and rhetorical strategies are used to convey criticism of the presidential nomination threshold? (3) How do textual discourse, discourse practices, and socio-cultural contexts shape public perceptions of political dynamics? This analysis follows Fairclough's three-dimensional CDA model: textual analysis, discourse practices, and socio-cultural practices. The research findings reveal that the narrative uses sharp diction, satire, and metaphorical language to express concerns and criticisms of the Constitutional Court, the House of Representatives (DPR), and political parties. The narrative reflects public dissatisfaction with political elites and raises concerns about the future of democracy under oligarchic influence. This research contributes to understanding how media narratives function as a critique of political reality as well as a tool to shape public perceptions of democratic practices in Indonesia.
