Abstract

One crucial component of education is developing higher-order thinking skills (HOTS). The aim of this study is to analyze mathematics as determinant of students’ HOTS among HND electrical and electronic engineering student in Ghana. The test format tool used had two indicators, critical and creative thinking, and the subjects for the research were 488 electrical and electronic engineering students from 4 randomly selected Technical Universities in Ghana. The Cronbach Alpha reliability test was performed, and the Pearson test was used to assess the validity of the MAT instrument. Data were processed and analysed using SPSS version 26.0 software. Multiple regression was used as the estimation technique, and the results show a positive high correlation between HOTS and probability (0.757), and positive moderate correlations for algebra (0.669), functions (0.633), trigonometry and complex numbers (0.604), and calculus and differential equations (0.572). These statistics suggest that the level of understanding of mathematics concepts, particularly probability, can determine HOTS. The study's implication is that engineering mathematics curriculum developers should stress the practical applications of mathematics, especially probability in everyday life and offer opportunities for students to use their mathematical knowledge to solve real-world problems in order to develop HOTS.

Abstract

This study uses the Taguchi method to optimize the quality factor (Q-factor) of microring resonators (MRRs) for sensor applications. The MRRs are compact optical components widely used in biosensors and environmental monitoring due to their sensitivity to refractive index changes. The Q-factor, a key performance metric for MRRs, is significantly influenced by structural parameters such as ring radius (R), gap (g), waveguide width (W), and waveguide height (h). We employed a finite difference time domain (FDTD) simulation to model light propagation within the MRR and compute the corresponding Q-factor to identify the optimal combination of these parameters. An L9 orthogonal array (OA) is used in the Taguchi method to analyze each factor's influence with three levels systematically. The optimization resulted in a Q-factor of 6208.44, significantly higher than the baseline value, indicating a substantial improvement. Compared to previous works, this research highlights the advantages of combining FDTD-based electromagnetic modeling with statistical optimization, offering a structured yet efficient approach to MRR design. The proposed method enhances Q-factor performance and provides scalability for practical applications in biomedical and environmental sensing. These findings underscore the utility of Taguchi-based design in advancing the field of photonic sensor optimization.

Abstract

This study identifies and analyzes the main research areas related to green technical and vocational education training (TVET). It focuses on evaluating the extent of its integration into TVET programs. The research explores the link between green TVET, environmental sustainability, and its impact on human development, drawing on research and data from the past decade (2013-2023). This paper aims to offer readers an in-depth insight into progress and prospective developments, with a specific emphasis on the pedagogical approach in Technical and Vocational Education Training (TVET) and stakeholders' concerns in this domain. To achieve this goal, the study applied the Systematic Literature Network Analysis (SLNA) method, combining bibliometric analysis techniques with a systematic literature review (SLR) using the PRISMA approach. This integrated approach utilizes objective measurements and algorithms to discern emerging themes and subjects to gain a thorough understanding of the current state of green TVET and potential paths for further integration to address environmental issues and enhance human capacity. The paper finds that green TVET positively affects learners' knowledge, skills, attitudes, and behaviors related to environmental sustainability, as well as their employability and career prospects in the green economy. It highlights challenges and gaps in implementing and evaluating green TVET, such as the lack of standardized definitions, indicators, and methodologies, insufficient integration of green competencies, and limited stakeholder involvement. The paper concludes with recommendations for policy and practice and directions for future research.

Abstract

Microactuators play a vital role in several microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) that generate forces or deflections necessary to accomplish functions such as scanning, tuning, manipulation, or delivery. Utilizing a ferrite magnetic core has shown the potential to enhance the deflection of the microactuator. However, the previous study presented a complex fabrication method with high power consumption unsuitable for micropump application. Herewith, we report the impact of ferrite core length on the deflection generated by a microactuator with a simple fabrication method. The deflection behavior shows that the corresponding magnetic core length is inverse to the deflection improvement. The force reduction generated led by a longer magnetic core because of the farther distance to the coil. Our study can be used as a reference to support the development of micropump or active micromixer devices, which require compact devices with simple fabrication and high deflection, achieving ultra-high flow rate and high mixing index.

Abstract

General Background Collaboration skills are essential competencies in contemporary education, particularly within problem-based and interactive learning environments. Specific Background Problem-Based Learning integrated with deep learning and differentiated approaches has been proposed to support meaningful engagement and teamwork among vocational students. Knowledge Gap However, empirical evidence on how differentiated PBL combined with deep learning systematically strengthens collaboration skills in formal vocational education remains limited. Aims This study aims to examine the application of differentiated PBL with deep learning to strengthen students’ collaboration skills through iterative classroom action cycles. Results The findings show a progressive increase in collaboration skills from 30.22% in the first cycle to 87.21% in the third cycle, accompanied by improved teaching quality from 46% to 87%, indicating a strong positive relationship between instructional quality and collaborative performance. Novelty The study introduces the integration of differentiation across material, process, and product within PBL and combines qualitative and quantitative observations in a vocational classroom context. Implications These results highlight the importance of adaptive instructional design, learning style mapping, and structured group interaction to foster inclusive, collaborative learning aligned with 21st-century competencies. Abstract

Sel surya berbasis pewarna atau yang dikenal dengan dye-sensitized solar cell (DSSC) merupakan sel surya generasi baru yang bekerja berdasarkan photoelectrochemical. Proses absorpsi cahaya dilakukan oleh molekul pewarna (dye) dan proses pemisahan muatan oleh bahan semikonduktor anorganik (dalam penelitian ini digunakan TiO2). Dalam penelitian ini dilakukan pabrikasi modul surya menggunakan lapisan partikel nano TiO2 (non-scattering) dan menggunakan campuran lapisan partikel nano TiO2 dengan lapisan partikel sub-mikron TiO2 (scattering). Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui waktu hidup (life time) dan efisiensi modul surya dengan bahan yang berbeda. Pabrikasi modul surya ini menggunakan teknik screen printing. Karakteristik life time diperoleh dari hasil pengukuran I-V yang dilakukan secara manual menggunakan lampu LED 15 Watt dengan intensitas 40 mW/cm2 . Pengujian life time dilakukan selama 500 jam, dan hasilnya menunjukkan bahwa modul surya dengan lapisan scattering dapat mempengaruhi karakteristik life time namun efisiensi yang didapatkan kurang baik yaitu sebesar 0,31% sedangkan modul surya dengan lapisan non-scattering menunjukkan efisiensi yang baik yaitu sebesar 1,83% namun karakteristik life time yang kurang baik.

Abstract

Instructional materials for static electricity and dynamic electricity for Physics subjects in Vocational High Schools are not in accordance with the scope of the material contained in the Electronics Department: (1) The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of the teaching materials of static electricity and dynamic electricity in Physics in the Electronics Department; (2) Qualitative Content Analysis Method was used to explore the contents of seven book titles with different publishers and is strengthened through inter-views with Physics teachers in the Department of Electronics. In the process of analyzing the content of the contents of this textbook used Atlas.ti computer software; (3) The findings show that the content in the Vocational High School Physics books pub-lished by several publishers does not yet have specific conformity with the Department of Electronics; (4) conclusion. There are code relating to the content content, researchers only specify it into 39 code titles in the VHS Physics Textbook. from qualitative analysis. The level of compatibility of the content of the material with the 2013 Revised Curriculum was 42.86%, the availability of pictures was 75%, examples of questions from the equa-tions of each series were 85.71%, the suitability of the practicum with the Electrical Clump was 14.29%. content conformity with the Revised 2013 Curriculum and electro majors has a slightly low percentage of 42.86%. So in this study, the authors reconstruct VHS Physics teaching materials for the Electrical Department and also make VHS Physics teaching materials for the Electrical Clump.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of technology-enabled vocational education has increased reliance on digital access systems that regulate entry to learning platforms, simulations, and assessment environments. This study examines how security challenges in these systems affect learning continuity in vocational education and identifies factors that intensify disruption risks. A systematic review of peer-reviewed studies published between 2020 and 2025 was conducted using five academic databases, applying predefined inclusion criteria and synthesizing findings through descriptive and thematic analysis. Results show that weaknesses in data confidentiality, integrity, and especially system availability frequently interrupt instructional activities, particularly practice-based learning dependent on digital laboratories and assessment tools. Disruptions are often amplified by misalignment between technical infrastructure, user practices, and institutional governance, with institutions lacking governance capacity and user training facing higher risks of learning interruption. Although technical and administrative mitigation strategies exist, they are often implemented without sufficient alignment to pedagogical needs. The study concludes that digital access security should be treated not merely as a technical concern but as a prerequisite for equitable and resilient vocational learning, calling for integrated socio-technical and pedagogically informed security strategies.
