Abstract

The conceptual knowledge test is an efficient way to measure the conceptual knowledge of physics prospective teachers on electrical and magnetism topic. The employed instrument was physical questions in the form of multiple-choice options. The process of developing and validating the conceptual knowledge test consisted of 5 steps: (1) content analysis; (2) construction of multiple-choice items; (3) readability test and expert validation; (4) limited tryout; and (5) large-scale application. The instrument validation test through trials was conducted in order to obtain the data related to difficulty index, discriminating power, distractor functionality, and reliability coefficient value that was then analyzed using ITEMAN version 3.0 program. The participants were 215 physics prospective teachers of a University in Makassar city.  The instrument validation resulted in 40 items that consisted of 26 items for electricity and 14 items for magnetism. The instrument is called Conceptual Knowledge Test-Electricity and Magnetism (CKT-EM). The value of the reliability coefficient (α) (Alpha Cronbach) of 0.87 indicated that the instrument of conception test on electrical and magnetism topics was valid and sufficient to measure students’ conception on electrical and magnetism topic.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the existence of learning material related to educational issues regarding low-carbon levels. Through the content analysis, 26 primary school science textbooks from ten publishers in Indonesia were reviewed, focusing on the study covering the selection, presentation, provision of supporting materials, and low-carbon issues. The research method used is the qualitative content analysis process method with research steps: 1) Data collection; 2) Data analysis textbook; and 3) Ethical considerations. The results showed that sixty one point six percent of teachers said the book was under the curriculum's coverage. The sixty point six percent of the relevance of content to student experiences was appropriate, so is the fifty three point five percent of the relevance of examples and exercises with learning objectives and the material presented. It is also found that fifty five point six percent of various questions and discussions were adequate for testing students, the other fifty one point five percent had included supporting questions and exercises, and sixty point six percent of teachers said there was a teacher's guide. Then fifty point five percent, according to the teacher, students' awareness of low carbon is still relatively low, and forty six point six percent of the content coverage regarding low carbon is still considered sufficient by the teacher. This study concludes that there was too little coverage of low-carbon issues and a lack of additional material related to the low-carbon content in primary science textbooks. The topic of low carbon is still implicit in the environmental literacy found in textbooks. The follow-up that can be done is providing a low-carbon concept to science textbooks in primary schools so that our students and society will have low-carbon awareness and increased environmental literacy.

Abstract

A video analysis experiment guide has been made on kinematics material using the pro logger program for prospective physics teachers. This study aims to see the results of the feasibility of an experimental guide. This research method uses design and development research (DDR). The guide is validated by user experts and material experts with an average value that can be sequentially 79.69% and 87.5%. So it can be concluded that this video analysis guide is acceptable and feasible to be used by students.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to develop a reflective thinking scale instrument to measure the level of reflective thinking ability of prospective physics students. This research method used the DDR (Design Development Research) method with the Tools and Research model. The reflective thinking scale developed is a modification of the Reflective Thinking Kember which consists of 24 items each consisting of 6 definitions. The level of Kember reflective thinking namely; 1) Habitual Actions, 2) Understanding, 3) Reflective, 4) Critical Reflective. The research sample was 138 prospective physics teacher students who had taken thermodynamics courses. Data analysis techniques in this study used the CVR (Content Validity Ratio) for content validation analysis, Product Moment Correlation (construct validity test), Cronbach alpha (Reliability) and Confirmatory Factor Analysis to find a model match. The results show that the instrument is valid, reliable and the Goodness of Fit index. It is therefore denied that the instruments developed are valid, reliable and suitable for measuring the level of reflective thinking ability..

Abstract

Article presents critical thinking skills of in-service physics teachers (IPTs) and their behavior in online. This research is a survey that describes the profile of IPTs critical thinking skills and their behavior in online learning. This survey involved 46 IPTs of four semester at Open University in Indonesia. Data related to IPTs’ critical thinking were collected through the General Critical Thinking Test by Lauren Starkey, while the data related to IPTs’ critical thinking skills were collected through tests of critical thinking skills. Data were analyzed by using quantitative descriptive technique. Based on the results of the data analysis, it was concluded that generally the IPTs’ critical thinking skills can be categorized dominated as low, while their behavior in online learning dominated only read and view the activities. The result of critical thinking skills and their behavior in online learning will be used as a reference in developing a problem based learning in the online physics learning context.

Abstract

The study aims to develop a four-tier diagnostic test that can be used to identify students' misconceptions in wave and optical material. This research is developing research using the Plomp development model that was elaborated by the procedure for developing a four-tier diagnostic test by Pesman and Eryilmaz. The study was conducted in three junior high schools located in the Lembang sub-district in class VIII students. The instruments used were expert validation sheets, identification sheets of alternative concepts for students, and empirical validation instruments. Data analysis used is quantitative analysis by looking at the quality of the items. The results of the study showed that the content validity test obtained a CVI value of 0,848 which meant that the criteria were very suitable. The empirical validity test obtained the value of MNSQ outfit 1,00 and ZSTD outfit -0.0 which meant that it was included in the criteria of accepted values. While Point Measure Correlation, the whole item is included in the predetermined range. Item reliability is 0.93 and the alpha cronbach value of 0.85 also shows that the instrument developed has good reliability. The value of person Measure -0.29 < logit 0.0 indicates that the level of difficulty of the question includes a very good category. Overall, it can be concluded that the four-tier diagnostic test developed has met the criteria and is declared feasible to be used to identify students' misconceptions in wave and optical material
