Abstract

The planting schedules and harvest quality have changed due to climate change. Consequently, the harvest yields occasionally fail to meet the market's demands and threaten food security. This situation will lead to an increase in food prices and also impact other health issues, such as stunting. Therefore, the aim for food security remains an important project to enhance national development. The community service team from the Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta, in partnership with the Mundu Village Government in Klaten Regency, organized a series of service activities to enhance food security through the "Rumah Tahan Pangan" competition program for the Mundu Village community. The community service agenda included several strategies: socialization, training, and mentorship. The results of these activities indicate that the residents of Mundu Village are willing to support the food security programme. This is illustrated by a 40.6 percent increase in knowledge about food security at the household level, a 5.4 percent increase in knowledge about using yard land, and a 32.4 percent increase in understanding of balanced nutrition.

Abstract

Klaten Regency, known as the "Regency of a Thousand and One Springs," boasts abundant natural resources, including Umbul Siblarak, which holds significant potential as a nature tourism destination. However, data shows that visits to Umbul Siblarak are relatively low compared to other springs in the region. Further research is needed to identify the factors influencing tourist visits from both consumer and producer perspectives and to provide solutions for improving tourism management. To address the first objective, multiple regression analysis was employed, while qualitative analysis using NVivo software was applied to answer the second objective. Data collection techniques included distributing questionnaires to 100 visitor respondents and conducting Focus Group Discussions (FGDs) with tourism managers. The analysis results revealed that income has a positive and significant effect on tourist visits. Meanwhile, factors such as facility quality, tourist attractions, and promotions have a positive but insignificant impact. Travel costs and accessibility were found to have a negative and insignificant effect on tourist visits. To enhance and support local tourism, strategies such as improving facilities, increasing promotional activities, and enhancing accessibility are necessary. These efforts are expected to make Umbul Siblarak a more attractive tourist destination and contribute to the local economy.

Abstract

Developing rural economies that focus on village independence through small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) entrepreneurship provides significant benefits for the community and local government. By improving access to production resources, technology, and capital, it is hoped that the production and productivity of the community will increase, along with the realization of welfare through product sales and the creation of new jobs in the agrotourism, handicrafts, and tourism sectors. Mundu Village, Tulung District, Klaten Regency, has entrepreneurial potential from livestock and agricultural products. However, low digital literacy among business actors poses a major challenge. This community service aims to enhance digital literacy through training and assistance in creating WhatsApp Business, TikTok, and Instagram accounts. The methods of socialization and training are expected to encourage improved product marketing, ultimately enhancing the welfare of the village community. Program results indicate a 40% increase in understanding of social media marketing, a 32.4% increase in the use of digital marketplaces, and a 13.4% increase in WhatsApp Business. With support from digital technology, local products from Mundu Village are expected to compete in a broader market.

Abstract

Purpose: This study tries to compare the effect of the brown economy proxied by the CO2 Emissions, and Tourism Expenditures variable with the green economy proxied by the variables of Hydroelectricity, and Renewable Energy. The green economy is one of the solutions to environmental degradation. Methodology: This research is a form of comprehensiveness of previous research. This research is a type of quantitative research using the panel data regression analysis method. The data used in 2010–2020 was obtained from the World Bank and Our World in Data on three countries, Indonesia, Thailand, and the Philippines. Results: The results showed that EMS has a significant negative effect on GDP, while CEH and TE have a significant positive effect. Meanwhile, RE has a positive relationship but no significant effect. These results imply that the three countries have passed the second phase in the Kuznet curve of EKC theory. The great potential in green economy development has been utilized to maintain sustainable economic growth. Applications/Originality/Value The government is expected to support the optimization of the transition from non-renewable energy to renewable energy by utilizing all renewable energy components, including wind, biomass, and solar heat. Policymakers are expected to make policies that encourage tourism to adopt green tourism to overcome the adverse effects of tourist arrivals, and the government are expected to maximize and emphasize the application of hydroelectricity as a source of electricity.

Abstract

This research investigates the influence of the factors contributing to the Human Development Index (HDI) and the degree of technological openness on human development within the regions of Java and Borneo during the period from 2018 to 2023. Employing panel data alongside the Generalized Method of Moments (GMM) estimation approach, the findings indicate that technological openness, gross domestic product per capita, educational density per capita, net enrollment ratios, and life expectancy exert a significant effect on HDI. In Java, the economic and educational variables demonstrate a more pronounced impact, facilitated by superior infrastructure. Conversely, in Borneo, the participation in education and the level of technological openness asume an critical role, exhibiting a more substantial influence in the short term. These results underscore the imperative for region-specific policy interventions, which should encompass the augmentation of technological accessibility, the promotion of equitable economic advancement, and the fortification of educational and healthcare infrastructure. Through the implementation of appropriate strategies, disparities in human development can be mitigated, thereby fostering the attainment of sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Abstract

Mundu Village is a village in Indonesia located in Tulung District, Klaten Regency, Central Java Province. The Statistics Indonesia (BPS) revealed that more than 60% of the residents of Mundu Village own cattle. This condition has led the community to utilize cattle manure as a source of renewable energy. Additionally, cattle manure is processed into fertilizer to nourish various plants, some of which serve as a food source for the livestock. This activity is known as zero-waste agriculture. This condition encouraged the Mundu Village government to establish a Tourism Village that offers educational tourism based on renewable energy. Mundu Village already has several buildings to support the realization of the Tourism Village. However, Mundu Village is not yet ready in terms of institutions. The community service team from the Faculty of Economics and Business and the Faculty of Law of Muhammadiyah University of Surakarta provided education and assistance in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to support the acceleration of institutional readiness in the effort to establish an Educational Tourism Village based on Renewable Energy. The activity proceeded successfully, marked by the preparation of a draft SOP that is ready to be approved, supporting the institutional strengthening of the Tourism Village.

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of the tourism industry on PDRB in 35 districts/cities of Central Java during the 2020–2021 COVID-19 pandemic era. Secondary data is obtained from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS). The independent variables used are the number of tourist attractions, the number of domestic tourists, the number of foreign tourists, the number of restaurants, and the number of hotels and other accommodations. The dependent variable is the regional income of the tourism sector. The research method used is panel data regression with a fixed-effect model. The study results partially show that the variable number of tourist attractions and the number of hotels and other accommodations positively and significantly affect GRDP. The variable number of restaurants and the number of foreign tourists negatively and significantly affect GRDP. At the same time, domestic tourists have no significant effect on GRDP. Simultaneously, the variables of the number of tourist attractions, the number of domestic tourists, the number of foreign tourists, the number of restaurants, and the number of hotels and other accommodations affect the GRDP. Strenuous efforts are needed for the tourism industry to restore tourism performance to be more optimal in contributing to the economy.

Abstract

Digital financial inclusion is an effective and efficient measure in accelerating financial inclusion, including in Indonesia. This study aims to analyze sociodemographic factors on the probability of digital payment usage. The data used comes from the World Bank Gallup World Poll Survey 2021 on the Global Financial Inclusion Index released by the World Bank, with 1,062 respondents. By applying logistic regression, this study explores the influence of sociodemographic factors such as gender, education, income, age, place of residence, and internet access on the probability of using digital payments. The results show an imbalance in gender, with women having a higher likelihood of using digital payments. Additionally, higher education and income levels increase the likelihood of using digital payments. However, there is an inconsistency where higher income actually reduces the likelihood of using digital payment services. On the other hand, there is a disparity in opportunities between individuals living in rural and urban areas and in accessibility to the internet. The U-shaped hypothesis regarding the relationship between age and digital payment usage is proven in this study. Overall, the results show that individuals with higher sociodemographic status are more likely to use financial technology.
